Special honour for Ria Percival

WEBWIRE

Ria Percival has been recognised in the New Zealand New Years Honours list.

The New Zealand international and her captain, Ali Riley, have been made Members of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to football.

Capped an incredible 166 times by the Football Ferns, Ria earned her first call up age 17 in 2006. She played in her first World Cup a year later and has now represented her country in five World Cups, the most recent the most special of all, a World Cup on home soil in the summer of 2023. Ria played all three matches as the Ferns beat Norway for their first-ever win in the tournament, but bowed out at the group stage.

That doesnt tell the whole story though. Fourteen months before that World Cup opener in July, Rias career was on the line after suffering a serious knee injury playing for the Ferns against Australia in April, 2022. She fought her way back, returned to training at Spurs in March and then stepped back out in the WSL on 29 April.

Speaking to us after hearing about the award, Ria said: Its a great honour. Im humbled to get this recognition. It means a lot to me and my family. The last 17 years in the national team has seen many ups and downs, but looking back now and taking it all in, its a pretty incredible moment in my career. It says a lot about the Ferns, and the Ferns who came before us, the players who gave us the opportunity to do what were doing today and have paved the way for so many of us in New Zealand. So, I thank them and this is for them and the team. For me, its a great way to start the New Year and well now see what happens next. Im humbled, honoured and proud of the achievements that myself and the team have made and keep making. Hopefully, there is a bright future ahead.

Signed by Spurs in 2019, Ria has made over 50 appearances for us in all competitions and nine in our new-look side under Robert Vilahamn this season.

From a family of Spurs fans, Ria told us back in July what it meant to pull on the famous lilywhite shirt. It makes me think of my grandad, Reg, hes still around, although hes not been too well of late. Hes a massive Spurs fan, always tells me stories about when he used to live right next to White Hart Lane, sneak in and watch the games. Hes been battling a lot over the last few years and coming here, putting the shirt on, I think of him, my uncles my uncle took me to a Spurs game once when I was back in the UK. Its those little moments and memories. Ive achieved something that will make them all feel proud.

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn., December 29, 2023 (Newswire.com)

Husband and wife team Derek and Laura Clardy have passed the torch of Motogear Warehouse to new owners Scott Lawrence along with his father Laney Lawrence, the principals of Triple Curl Capital LLC, after a highly successful 12-year reign. The Clardys established the dealership in 2011, steering it from selling only pre-owned motorcycles to become a prominent powersports, tractor, and power equipment dealer, selling new units from top industry brands from a sprawling 21,000 sq. ft. facility on approximately 6 acres with an abundance of additional covered storage.

Scott Lawrence, a resident of the neighboring city of Lebanon, TN, and seasoned entrepreneur in partnership with his father Laney, was in search of a new business interest. Mike Pate, Vice President of Powersports Listings M&A (PLMA), who was entrusted with orchestrating the transactional process, had the leading role in the matchmaking of Scott and Laney to the Motogear Warehouse buyout opportunity.

Well-renowned brands such as CAN-AM, Kawasaki, Massey Ferguson, and Scag Power Equipment will continue to be supported by the dealership, cementing its commitment to providing a diverse range of high-quality equipment and service for its loyal customer base.

Under the purview of Mike Pate, David Clay, PLMA’s CIO, and CEO Tom Macatee, the successful transaction and final reconciliations were managed meticulously with the change of ownership finalized on December 21, 2023. The transition marks a thrilling new chapter for MotoGear Warehouse, set to drive ahead with its mission under the new stewardship of Scott and Laney Lawrence.

Derek and Laura Clardy said, “We have such great customers and employees so it was not an easy decision to sell the business that we built together for 12 years. We appreciate Mike Pate and the PLMA team for smoothing out the process.”

The Lawrence’s track record of entrepreneurial acumen, coupled with the dedication and discipline of MotoGear Warehouse’s exceptional team, promise a continued positive trajectory for the dealership’s future. To this end, the esteemed Clardys take pride in passing the baton to capable hands to continue to support the riders and farmers of Shelbyville, TN, and neighboring areas.

Scott Lawrence stated, “I could not have asked for better people in the Clardys to work with as a Buyer. Be on the lookout for our new signs and new name – Southbound Powersports.”

WyoTech Addresses the Need for Teachers in Technical Education

The innovative automotive, diesel, and collision trade school’s teachers describe the reasons and rewards of entering the education field and working with students.

LARAMIE, Wyo., December 27, 2023 (Newswire.com)

WyoTech, one of the leading automotive trade schools, is recognized for addressing the country’s need for skilled technicians. Now, WyoTech’s experienced faculty is encouraging people with technical training and experience to consider a career in teaching in light of a looming shortage for technical education teachers.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects about 14,800 openings for technical education teachers annually for the next decade, primarily to replace retiring teachers or those leaving the profession. The Bureau also projects a need for 28,000 diesel technicians and mechanics annually over the decade.

“The demand in the trade industry is growing, as is the number of technicians who are reaching retirement age,” said Kyle Morris, president of WyoTech. “And there is a dire need for the current generation of technicians and teachers to pass their knowledge and passion to the next generation so we can keep the trades – and therefore the country – up and running.”

While many in the trade industry are aware of the support that WyoTech gives to the trade industry in providing hands-on experience to the next generation of technicians, the need for mentors and teachers in the industry is rarely spoken of. Across the board at both schools and companies, there is a need for experienced hands who are willing to pass their passion on to the next generation of technicians. WyoTech’s instructors speak to this need and encourage other technicians to consider a field in teaching.

“There’s a huge need for teachers across the board. I can see it in our programs, and I can see it in other programs across the country,” said Tyler Mead, Diesel Instructor at WyoTech.

“There’s lots of reasons to teach, and I often feel like I get way more enjoyment out of teaching than I do when I’m actually working on equipment. I get more reward out of it than I ever did ‘mechanicing.’ To see the progression and development of the students is out of this world.”

Veteran WyoTech teachers said they’ve seen students’ development pay long-term dividends of successful careers that also provide a good quality of life.

“Working with one’s hands to build or repair is rewarding for many that do it, and that usually translates to personal happiness and contentment,” said Charles “Mac” McDonald, Trim and Upholstery Instructor at WyoTech.

“I would suggest to anyone considering a teaching role to think about the impact they can have on someone’s life. It’s a good feeling to have a student reach out to you years later to thank you for impacting their life in a positive way.”

WyoTech teachers say the most important part of teaching is being able to leverage their skills to have that kind of impact on hundreds or thousands of lives.

“In the fighting world, a force multiplier is a tool that gives you an unfair advantage. I am that tool to my students, a force multiplier,” said Robert Stage, Automotive Instructor at WyoTech. “That is what I’d say to a technician who was contemplating coming to WyoTech to teach: Come here and make the most impact that you ever could in our industry and the careers of our young people. Be that force multiplier in someone else’s life.”
