The National Bank of Georgia adopts Bloomberg E-Bond Solution for Repos

WEBWIRE

Bloomberg and the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) announced the launch of the Bloomberg E-Bond technology solution for local currency Repo instruments, or repurchase agreements. The Bloomberg E-Bond solution provides electronic trading functionality for participants in the Georgian Repo market and provides market surveillance tools to the National Bank. The solution provides the primary trade negotiation system for local currency Repo trading in Georgia’s inter-dealer market. It commenced operation and became the National Bank of Georgia’s official market platform for repurchase agreements on November 28, 2022.

The Georgia E-Bond Repo solution allows local market participants to trade Repo and Reverse Repo via two trade negotiating modes, VTR (voice trade affirmation) and RFQ (request for a quote). Georgia E-Bond provides a complete, consolidated marketplace for Georgian Repos, offering market participants a robust and flexible set of tools supporting the full trade workflow. This includes pre-trade price discovery and analytics, the ability to handle multi-dealer RFQ, downstream integration with banks’ middle and back-office systems, and integrated trade capture and reporting tools.

“Well functioning financial markets are an important priority for the NBG, as they support stable economic growth, financial stability and monetary policy implementation. To foster local financial markets development, we have been working in close cooperation with Bloomberg to launch Georgian Repo E-Bond”, said Archil Mestvirishvili, Vice Governor of the NBG.  “Bloomberg has been a provider of choice for local market participants and the central bank for more than a decade. Therefore, we are delighted to be the first market globally to adopt Bloomberg’s new solution for the Repo market, which offers a much better user-friendly experience and full integration with our securities settlement system for automated, fast and secure processing of interbank securities transactions”.

“We are delighted to expand the set of instruments supported by the Bloomberg E-Bond technology solution and to launch the first Repo E-Bond, in Georgia in partnership with the National Bank of Georgia. The solution will contribute to increasing the transparency, liquidity and efficiency of the Georgian Repo market,” said Katharine Furber, Bloomberg’s Head of Emerging Markets Trading Product. “Debt markets require robust technical infrastructure solutions that are tailored to local market requirements, and our extensive experience in supporting fixed income trading processes allows us to provide solutions that can easily be adapted to the needs and requirements of institutions such as the National Bank.”

The E-Bond technology solution is fully integrated with Bloomberg’s data, news, analytics and communications tools to provide local Georgian clients active in the Repo market with a single, comprehensive solution.

BT Group makes Cost of Living Pay Rise as union recommends end to strikes

WEBWIRE

BT Group has announced plans for a UK Cost of Living Pay Rise to all but the highest paid staff.  Chief Executive, Philip Jansen, presenting the company’s half year results this month, had made clear his determination to make such an award.  Subsequent discussions with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Prospect have led to both unions recommending agreement.

Details of the Cost of Living Pay Rise are:

  • £1,500 pay rise for all UK colleagues who currently earn £50,000 or less from 1 Jan 2023
  • Consolidated salary increase, not one-off payment
  • Covers 100% of frontline staff (and others at ‘Team Member’ grade), and 51% of managers in the UK. In total, 85% of UK-based BT Group colleagues
  • Highly competitive pay award when combined with the increase made in April, bringing the total percentage pay rise for the lowest paid to over 15% since this time last year
  • Includes Openreach

The Cost of Living Pay Rise is being communicated to all UK BT Group staff.  At the same time, CWU and Prospect will communicate to their members, and will run consultative ballots recommending people vote in favour.  The outcome of those ballots will be announced in mid-December, and in the case of the CWU would end industrial action if members are supportive.

BT Group has committed to still run a 2023 pay review for UK colleagues but this will now move to September 2023 and take into account the January Cost of Living Pay Rise.

Announcing the new Cost of Living Pay Rise, BT Group Chief Executive, Philip Jansen said:

“This award is based on the principles we have followed throughout this difficult period.  It gets help to as many of our colleagues as possible; favours our lower paid colleagues; and gives people the security of a built-in, pensionable increase to their pay.

“Crucially, it has been worked on in conjunction with the CWU.  As I’ve said throughout, whatever our differences, our unions are vital partners.  We will now build on this collaboration:  We have agreed with both our union partners that we will all lean into the opportunities and challenges the future will bring, specifically our transformation plans and the delivery of the £3bn cost savings by the end of FY25. Ultimately, we all want BT Group to be successful so that we can do the best by our people and customers for years to come.”

Top Charts Insights

Apple Music also revealed its year-end charts, spotlighting 2022’s top songs, top Shazams, top fitness songs, and most-read lyrics. Diving into the rankings, music aficionados will notice the growing presence of non-English-language songs, the rise of once-niche genres, and a number of exciting breakthrough artists stepping into the spotlight for the first time.

The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber finished the year at No. 1 on the Top Songs of 2022 with their collaboration “STAY.” Released in the summer of 2021, “STAY” spent a staggering 51 days atop the Daily Top 100: Global and remained sticky well through 2022. “STAY” has not dropped out of the Daily Top 100: Global since its release, and has reached No. 1 on the Daily Top 100 in 69 countries and regions worldwide.

Hip-Hop continued to lead the Top Songs chart, accounting for 32 of the top 100 songs of the year. Pop followed, with 23 songs on the chart, followed by R&B/Soul, with 11 songs. Latin came in fourth, with eight songs, followed by J-Pop, with six.

Things looked notably different on the Most Read Lyrics chart, led by “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” the standout on the soundtrack to Disney’s Encanto. The lyrics chart is among the most global charts, with 29 of the 100 songs being in a language other than English.

Meanwhile, British DJ Joel Corry’s “Head & Heart (feat. MNEK)” leads the Fitness Songs chart, which ranks the top songs on Apple Fitness+ and Apple Music’s fitness playlists. “Head & Heart” reached the Daily Top 100 in 53 countries and regions worldwide, including 12 where it reached the top 20.

Leading the Shazam chart was “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)” by Elton John and Dua Lipa, which marked Elton John’s first time topping the Shazam global chart. The track was No. 1 on 17 national charts — a record for both singers — and both hit the top spot in the UK for the first time. Rounding out the top five were Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves,” Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Farruko’s “Pepas,” and Acraze’s “Do It To It (feat. Cherish).”

Elsewhere, Bad Bunny — Apple Music’s 2022 Artist of the Year — became the first Latin artist to have the biggest album of the year with Un Verano Sin Ti. A mere four months after its record-breaking release, Un Verano Sin Ti had already become the biggest Latin album of all time by lifetime streams.

Embodied Healing Invites the Community to Participate in Common Ground

From now until the end of the year, Embodied Healing will be raising funds to support psychotherapy and wellness services to low-income and socially disadvantaged individuals and families, as well as survivors of trauma, crime, and state-sanctioned violence.

Non-profit mental health organization Embodied Healing invites the community to learn more about their mission to help transform the mental wellness of Los Angeles by participating in the fundraising event Common Ground: A Night of Community and Giving in Support of Embodied Healing held on December 8 at 5:30 p.m.

Hosted by The Dunsmoor Wine Bar, the evening will feature generous wine pours and Southern-inspired appetizers prepared by Chef Brian Dunsmoor and Bub & Grandma’s Bakery. Attendees may participate in a raffle for a Palm Springs getaway and get a ‘Grounding Bag’ chock-full of self care goodies with a donation of $150 or more.

“Folks needing low-cost therapy are faced with barriers to compassionate care like overwhelming bureaucratic processes, therapist burnout, and depersonalized services,” said Embodied Healing President Rhonda Dang. “Financial support with the help of this event, will provide accessible, high-quality, and individualized therapy regardless of one’s ability to pay.”
