Roots Music Keyboard Wizard Mitch Woods Sets August 18 Release Date for His Expanded Deluxe Edition of Friends Along the Way, Featuring Van Morrison, Taj Mahal, Ruthie Foster, Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Charlie Musselwhite, Marcia Ball, John Lee Hooker

San Francisco Bay Area roots keyboard wizard Mitch Woods has set an August 18 release date for the expanded deluxe edition of his 2-CD album set, Friends Along the Way, on Club 88 Records, distributed by The Orchard. The multi-disc set features Woods in simple duo and trio settings with such stars as Van Morrison, Taj Mahal, Ruthie Foster, Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Charlie Musselwhite, Marcia Ball, John Lee Hooker and many more.

Mitch Woods and his band, the Rocket 88s, will be touring regionally and internationally in support of the new set. He recently performed at the New Orleans JazzFest and Utah Blues Festival, with upcoming shows at Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy on July 7; Sonoma County Fair (Santa Rosa, CA) on August 11; San Jose Summer Jazz Festival (San Jose, CA) on August 12; Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise – Mexican Riviera Oct.28-Nov. 4; Blues Heaven Festival in Denmark Nov. 9-11; and Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise – Western Caribbean Jan. 28-Feb. 4.

The theme of friendship has carried Mitch Woods along throughout his life and led him to this career-defining project.  Originally released in 2017 on the eOne imprint, the Deluxe Edition of Friends Along the Waytotals 21 cuts, with the last five tracks having been  previously unreleased . Upon its initial release, eOne decided they would become a film company and dropped all promotion on its musical releases, including Mitch Woods’ Friends Along the Way. Not one to be dissuaded, Mitch was able to secure his ownership of the masters and decided to release this expanded Deluxe Edition featuring the unreleased tracks to bring it to the attention of music listeners and blues lovers who never got the chance to hear these incredible songs from Mitch, along with his musical contemporaries and early influences.  This is Mitch’s musical opus and culmination of a life in blues and friendships that have lasted a lifetime.

The first single, “C. C. Rider,” features Van Morrison and Taj Mahal on vocals, with Taj on guitar, and Mitch Woods on piano. Both Van Morrison and Taj Mahal are core artists for AAA Radio. In 2023, Taj won his fourth Grammy Award (Best Traditional Blues Album) for “Get On Board” with Ry Cooder, and recently hit the top of the Billboard blues chart with his new album, Savoy.

During the recording sessions, five hours of video footage that was shot in the studio with each guest artist, including Van Morrison, Taj Mahal, Elvin Bishop, Ruthie Foster, Charlie Musselwhite and more. A special five minute EPK is also available for streaming.  Video footage from the studio recording sessions (each day spotlighting a different guest artist) will be shared on social media outlets leading up to the release.

Mitch Woods has delivered a career spanning tour de force on Friends Along the Way.  What you hear on these songs is a simple duo or trio of musicians each expressing their innermost feelings and emotions through their instrument… the voice, piano, guitar, harmonica, tambourine… anything that can communicate the feelings, the rhythms of life to the audience.

Friends Along the Way finds Mitch reaching into his historical sense of music. He reaches backwards to the roots rather than forward for his inspiration. With Friends Along the Way, Mitch wanted to get a chance to play with some of his contemporaries in an intimate and mostly unplugged environment. The piano as an instrument lends itself to this format so perfectly.  Mitch can play rhythm, lead, bass, and sing while accompanying some of his friends, who happen to be todays blues and musical greats. It is a great instrument for bringing out the best of these awesome artists who are keeping the blues flame burning for generations to come.

Some say music is a gift, not only to the person who performs it but to the world. The musicians you hear in these songs have spent a lifetime doing what they love to do… play music. Enjoy… this album is Mitch Woods gift to his fans.

Legendary American Roots Music Band The Nighthawks Are Revving Up for Their Slant Six Tour In Support of Latest 6-Song Digital-Only EP

The Nighthawks, America’s premiere roots music band for over a half-century, are rev ving up their engines to hit the road again – as they only know how – in support of their most-recent six-song digital-only VizzTone EP, Slant Six.

After undergoing a sustained case of “cabin fever” during the lengthy touring break due to COVID restrictions, The Nighthawks are coming out with a vengeance to reclaim their title as the hardest working band in show business. The band kicks off their upcoming tour in grand style with a July 1st appearance at the legendary FitzGerald’s multi-day American Music Festival outside Chicago, which also features Steve Earle, Dave Alvin, Lucinda Williams and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, among others.

The Nighthawks are led by original founding member Mark Wenner on lead vocals and harmonica, who is joined by Mark Stutso (drums, lead vocals), Dan Hovey (lead guitar and lead vocals) and Paul Pisciotta (drums and vocals.) 2022 marked the 50th anniversary of The Nighthawks founding, and these blues and roots band pioneers celebrated with the release of ESTABLISHED 1972 on the VizzTone label. Produced by The Nighthawks and long-time friend/producer David Earl and recorded at Earl’s Severn Sound Studios in Annapolis, Maryland, ESTABLISHED 1972 sported 14 new tracks in classic Nighthawks style: from rockers, to classic soul, blues, rockabilly and other elements that make up the band’s repertoire. In other words, pure American Roots Music!

And once things got rolling again, the band carried some new songs with them back into the studio – not originals, but great compositions from classic blues sources like Muddy Waters, Little Milton and Johnny “Guitar” Watson, plus a very cool tune by old friend Al Anderson. The result was the early 2023 release of Slant Six on VizzTone, which features six new recordings that deliver the heart and soul of this great live band. Guitarist Dan Hovey takes the lead vocal on the early rock ‘n’ roll classic “Motor Head Baby,” originally recorded by Johnny “Guitar” Watson back in 1953 when he was still calling himself “Young John Watson.” Mark Wenner stands out on two blues classics from the Muddy Waters catalog: “Forty Days and Forty Nights” and “Standing Around Crying,” digging in hard on vocals and extended harmonica solos, wailing with a killer vibrato. Drummer Mark Stutso delivers the deep soul vocals on Little Milton’s “You’re Welcome to the Club” and NRBQ founder Al Anderson’s “Poor Me,” while Paul Pisciotta’s bass holds down the pocket and Hovey provides especially tasty guitar parts. The EP wraps it up with “Don’t Know Where She Went,” Willie Egan’s red-hot New Orleans rocker with a double vocal that sounds like it could have been written for this band. Blending Don Hovey’s rich baritone with Mark Stutso’s soulful wail, they rock it hard, while Wenner on harp and Hovey on guitar get a chance to rip out blazing solos.

And now, they’re more than ready to keep rolling on this new tour. As Mark Wenner says, “We’re really excited to kick off our 51st year with this release… And now it’s time to rotate the tires, pack up the van and hit the road again!”

Cosmo First results – Outperformed the Industry once again!

Cosmo First Limited today declared its financial results for the quarter ended March 2023.

During the quarter, commodity films margins in both BOPP and BOPET suffered a further decline severely impairing the profitability of the industry. Cosmo with over two third of its revenue coming from speciality films could withstand the margin pressure and outperformed the industry once again.

The company expects the position to improve in the coming months bringing an end to QoQ declining phase, happening since the last 3 quarters. The company will continue to build its speciality products portfolio and maintain its lead over the other industry players.

The company’s pet care vertical continues to grow rapidly and clocked monthly run rate revenue (GMV) of Rs. 2 crores from its 15 experience centres and increasing online presence through its website and mobile app. An acquisition opportunity in the online pet care space is in the final stage and is expected to be closed soon. This would further accelerate the growth of the pet care vertical.

The speciality chemical subsidiary is set to launch newer adhesives which together with healthy growth in the masterbatch vertical would enable the subsidiary to have further growth in FY 23-24.

The company’s balance sheet remains strong with substantial cash reserve and net debt to EBITDA of about one time.

The Board of Directors had recommended a dividend of Rs 5 per equity share for the financial year FY 22-23 subject to approval of shareholders in the annual general meeting. This coupled with the 1:2 bonus in June 2022 and share buyback with tax-free handsome gain over the market price in February 2023 affirms the company’s commitment to provide regular returns and share prosperity with the shareholders.

Commenting on company’s performance Mr. Pankaj Poddar, Group CEO, Cosmo First Ltd. said “The company has launched many new specialty films including shrink for packaging and non- packaging applications. Several other speciality films for non-packaging applications are in the pipeline and should hit the market in coming quarters. All these would further strengthen the company’s position in speciality films business.”
