Perforce Software, a provider of solutions to enterprise teams requiring productivity, visibility, and scale along the development lifecycle, today announced its collaboration with the Open Source Initiative (OSI), a non-profit that raises awareness and adoption of open source software (OSS), on a groundbreaking survey on the usage of open source software.
The survey, which runs through January 7th, examines the day-to-day use and management of open source software, with the resulting data used as the basis for the 2022 OpenLogic and OSI State of Open Source Report.
“Our team is excited about the collaboration with OSI” said Javier Perez, Chief OSS Evangelist at Perforce Software. “This survey will offer valuable insights into rapidly changing open source technologies, how organizations are using open source, and, more importantly, uncover the challenges teams face when using today’s most popular open source technologies.”

AFCD charges Mainland fishermen suspected of operating illegally in Hong Kong waters (with photo)

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (November 30) laid charges against four men on board a Mainland vessel suspected of engaging in illegal fishing in Hong Kong waters to the south of Lamma Island.
Marine Police officers intercepted a Mainland vessel suspected to be carrying out illegal fishing activities in the above-mentioned waters at about 2.30pm yesterday (November 29). Upon notification, AFCD officers conducted investigation and seized some fishing gear on board.
Charges were laid against the four Mainland fishermen found on board the vessel. They were suspected to have contravened the Fisheries Protection Ordinance (Cap. 171). The case will be mentioned at Eastern Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (December 1).
Only a vessel registered under the Ordinance can be used for fishing in Hong Kong waters. Regardless of the type of fishing gear used, a non-local fishing vessel is not allowed to carry out fishing activities in Hong Kong waters. Any offender on conviction is liable to a maximum penalty of a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for six months.
An AFCD spokesman said, “The Government is committed to cracking down on illegal fishing activities in Hong Kong waters. The AFCD will maintain close liaison with relevant law enforcement departments and step up patrols and stringently enforce the law.”

Ngong Ping Nature Centre reopens after renovation (with photos)

With the completion of renovation works, the Ngong Ping Nature Centre at Ngong Ping Village on Lantau Island reopened today (November 30). Adopting an open design, the renovated Centre showcases its scenic feature wall and puts up a brand new look.
“The renovation project, a collaboration between the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and the Tourism Commission, aims to provide more comprehensive hiking information to visitors, enhance visitor experiences, and promote green tourism on Lantau Island,” an AFCD spokesman said.
The spokesman added that the Centre houses three interactive exhibits that present the diverse treasures of Lantau Island to visitors, and promote environmental protection and ecological conservation.
Members of the public can learn about recommended hiking trails nearby by using “Wandering Ngong Ping”, a landscape model with projected images and virtual tours. They can delve into the 3D projection storybook “Lantau Stories”, which introduces the culture and history of Lantau Island, and also have fun at the interactive game corner “Spectacular Lantau” by exploring the biodiversity and scenic spots of the island.
The Centre offers a free guided-tour service of famous scenic spots and native trees around Ngong Ping for public. The Centre also introduces a new service of lending maps and hiking poles to facilitate excursions to nearby hiking trails. Moreover, members of the public can enjoy paid value-added services offered by the service contractor of the Centre, such as themed guided tours that immerse visitors into the nature, culture and history of Lantau.

One man and one woman holding charged with manslaughter

Police today (November 30) laid a holding charge against a 57-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman jointly with one count of manslaughter.
The man and the woman were arrested on November 28 in suspected connection with a manslaughter case happened in Tuen Mun in which a 55-year-old man died.
The case will be mentioned at Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (December 1) morning.
