Midwest College Planning Announces Spring Workshops

MCP’s philosophy has always been: To help families find a school where the student succeeds, and the family can afford. MCP does this by focusing on 3 things, budget, research, and academics. The current debt associated with college education is staggering. MCP’s belief is it starts by understanding a family’s budget. Paying for college is one of the top five financial decisions families face Mr. Ziegler works with families on figuring out what they have saved, budgeting and saving. With a plan, the thought of a tuition bill due is not as stressful.

Parents are welcome to attend our free event at one of locations listed below. All events start at 6:30 pm. Reservations are required, please see MCP’s website for details.

Midwest Author Publishes New Novel Featuring the Origin Story of Pulp Hero “Conan the Cimmerian”

I Conan: Cimmerian, a new book by Dr. L. J. LaRoch, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

In this coming-of-age adventure story, Conan, a young boy about to ascend into manhood, is desperately seeking to join the ranks of warrior. His parents send him on a simple quest, which leads to a grand adventure across his native land.

I Conan: Cimmerian is a rite of passage tale that rivets the reader and introduces a world that any young man can identify with. In our modern age, this story is a breath of fresh air that shows how one young man deals with the problems of ascending into manhood while at the same time doing his part to stave off what could easily become a disastrous invasion by a powerful neighboring state. Using training, his wits and youthful power, Conan struggles to fight his way to survival and glory.

“While the character of Conan of Cimmeria is nearly 100-year-old, this work attempts to show him less as a herculean slayer and more as a flesh and blood, young man who endures the same growing pains as countless others. Fresher, more relevant, and more human, the story of I Conan: Cimmerian is a rip-roaring saga of a young man on a torturous and often dangerous path to manhood.” – Dr. L. J. LaRoch

A Midwest Mom’s Idea is About to Disrupt the Greeting Card Industry

Seasoned art director Carla Scholz has patented an eco-friendly greeting card that doubles as a cleaning cloth. Made from reusable, compostable Swedish sponge cloth, Clards (CLeaning + cARDS) are greetings that clean up – literally.

“I love getting cards but hate throwing them away,” says Scholz. “Clards solve that problem.” Simply add water, and the card magically transforms into a cleaning cloth that does the work of 3,000 paper towels. “It feels good to offer products that are smart and sustainable,” Scholz says.

Clards feature clever graphics that can be used for multiple occasions. A removable label includes the sentiment of the day (Thank You, Happy Birthday) and explains the usefulness of the cloth for cleaning. Givers can write a note inside with a gel pen or a fabric or permanent marker. Recipients enjoy the initial greeting and then relish the personal note for months while cleaning the counters or shining up the stainless.

Scholz is hoping that Clards disrupt the sleepy, wasteful $8 billion+ greeting card industry. Despite declines in the use of non-digital greeting cards, according to the Greeting Card Association, the average household still buys 30 individual greeting cards each year. Where do they end up? Gathering dust on a desk, at the bottom of a drawer, and eventually in the trash, becoming part of the world’s growing disposable waste problem.

Scholz is determined to be part of the solution with her useful dust collector. She’s been working on the Clards idea since 2018, experimenting and perfecting the concept. Now, just in time for holiday giving, Clards are ready for prime-time sales. Shop the full line at Clards.com, soakitupcloths.com, and retail outlets including Rosedale’s Rose & Loon.

Our Sustainability Story

Like Soak it Up Cloths, Clards are made in Sweden and designed and printed in the United States. The entire line is vegan, compostable, and all-natural. Once wet, they can be used to clean dishes, countertops, paws, faces, mirrors, and more. They can be washed over 200 times in the dishwasher or washing machine and can be sanitized quickly in the microwave or in boiling water. Worn cloths can be chopped up and added to houseplants to help keep soil moist.

MidWest Industrial Equipment Joins BYD Dealer Network

BYD Material Handling has entered into a dealership agreement with Mid-West Industrial Equipment Inc. expanding its presence into the Southwest Ohio market.

MidWest Industrial offers a full suite of services, including forklift sales, service, parts, equipment rental, and operator training. The company has locations in Piqua and Cincinnati, Ohio.

“With BYD, MidWest will be able to expand our footprint in the Dayton and Cincinnati markets. This will allow us the opportunity to showcase green technology in material handling that hasn’t been seen in this marketplace,” said Greg Meyer, president of MidWest. “With the material handling market changing and trying to use more sustainable power, we can now offer a true sustainable product for them. BYD offers us these wonderful opportunities for our current and new customers, saving them tremendous amounts of revenue in the process.”

“Partnering with MidWest Industrial will bring BYD’s clean, innovative technology to customers in Ohio. This technology will improve their production and help their bottom line,” said Terry Rains, Director of BYD North America’s Forklift Division. “MidWest Industrial is an ideal partner for BYD, bringing a strong focus on customer service and decades of industry experience.”

BYD’s material handling equipment simplifies operations by delivering a single-battery multi-shift solution. Spare batteries, cooling down batteries, and battery swapping are a thing of the past. BYD forklifts charge to full in under 90 minutes and run for up to 15-plus hours. When using opportunity charging, on breaks and downtime, your operation can truly run for 24 hours without thinking about batteries.

Unlike Lead-Acid batteries, and some “drop-in” lithium-ion batteries, BYD’s Iron Phosphate batteries feature high energy density while remaining environmentally friendly. There is no need for special ventilation requirements, watering infrastructure, or corrosion control.

As a first in the industry, BYD also offers a 110v / 15-amp plug-in charger capable of recharging its Iron Phosphate batteries. Because the Iron-Phosphate battery handles opportunity charging easily, you can even plug it in like you would your cell phone.
