Registration for the 2022 Sailing Convention for Women

Registration for the 2022 Sailing Convention for Women begins December 1, 2021, for this renown February event.

Since 1990, February marks that exciting and anticipated time of the year when the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club fills to maximum capacity with women near and far.

Each year gets better and better and this year is no exception. Creator/producer, Gail Hine, has expanded this event with several new class offerings and five new experienced instructors.

In addition to the many expected land-based and on-the-water sailing workshops/classes ranging from beginner to advanced, such as popular Docking and Suddenly Singlehanded, they have more… Catamaran Cruising, Communication with Confidence, Prepare for Passagemaking.

Like past years, the evening is topped by featuring a plated dinner and guest speaker. This year’s guest speaker is Zuzana Prochazka, well-known freelance travel and boating author/photographer. Shortly followed by the celebrated SCW raffle.

Year after year attendees say, “One of the best things about the convention is the chance to get to know other women sailors, but wish there was more time.” Continuing to the next day, this year is an optional networking brunch held at the Newport Beach Yacht Club at 10am. “This year we are making time for a social element, as well. Sailors from the full Saturday schedule of events can relax and socialize in a slower-paced atmosphere,” states convention co-chair, Lisa Cullinane.

Hong Kong – Government appoints Special Registration Committee under Medical Registration Ordinance

Government appoints Special Registration Committee under Medical Registration Ordinance

***************************************************************************************

The Government announced today (November 12) the establishment of the Special Registration Committee (SRC) in accordance with the amended Medical Registration Ordinance and the appointment of Professor Grace Tang Wai-king as the SRC Chairperson, and Mr Chan Wing-kai, Ms Tennessy Hui Mei-sheung and Mr Anthony Wu Ting-yuk as members. Their term of office will run from November 15, 2021, for three years.

Professor Grace Tang Wai-king, Mr Chan Wing-kai and Ms Tennessy Hui Mei-sheung will join the SRC in their capacity as members of the Medical Council of Hong Kong (MCHK). Their term of office as SRC members will cease when they are no longer members of the MCHK. Apart from the four members appointed by the Chief Executive, there are also six ex-officio members in the SRC.

As a statutory body under the MCHK, the SRC is responsible for determining the list of recognised medical qualifications after reviewing programmes offered by non-local medical schools with quality comparable to those provided by the two medical schools in Hong Kong. It will submit the list to the Registrar of Medical Practitioners (i.e. the Director of Health) for promulgation. Non-locally trained doctors who possess the recognised medical qualifications, subject to their fulfilment of certain criteria, may apply for special registration to practise in the public healthcare institutions. After serving for a certain period, obtaining recognised specialist qualifications and passing stringent assessment, they would be granted full registration to practise in Hong Kong.

The Government expects the SRC to determine the first batch of recognised medical qualifications within the first half of 2022 to allow qualified non-locally trained doctors to serve in the public healthcare institutions in Hong Kong under special registration.

The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, said, “In view of the shortage of doctors in the public healthcare system, members of the public hope that more qualified non-locally trained doctors would come to work in Hong Kong. Given Professor Tang’s wealth of experience in medical education and public service, I am confident that the SRC is capable of discharging its statutory duties effectively under her leadership and will be able to draw up the list of recognised medical qualifications as soon as possible.

“The other three members have substantial experience and expertise in different areas, including accounting, legal services and patients’ rights. We are confident that they, alongside the other six senior executives of public healthcare institutions and statutory bodies, will provide valuable advice and ensure that the SRC will draw up the list in a smooth and timely manner.”

The membership list of the SRC is as follows:

Chairperson:
Professor Grace Tang Wai-king (Member, Medical Council of Hong Kong)

Members:
Dr Ronald Lam Man-kin or his representative (Director of Health)
Dr Tony Ko Pat-sing or his representative (Chief Executive, Hospital Authority)
Professor Joseph Lau Wan-yee (Chairman, Medical Council of Hong Kong)
Professor Gilberto Leung Ka-kit (President, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine)
Professor Gabriel Leung (Dean, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong)
Professor Francis Chan Ka-leung (Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong)
Mr Chan Wing-kai (Member, Medical Council of Hong Kong)
Ms Tennessy Hui Mei-sheung (Member, Medical Council of Hong Kong)
Mr Anthony Wu Ting-yuk

Hong Kong – Special arrangement to facilitate resubmission of registration after the end of the Consumption Voucher Scheme registration period

Special arrangement to facilitate resubmission of registration after the end of the Consumption Voucher Scheme registration period

******************************************************************************************

The registration period of the Consumption Voucher Scheme ended yesterday (August 14).  The electronic registration portal has ceased operation and post offices and bank branches have also ceased collecting paper forms.  The Government spokesman today (August 15) reminded people choosing to upload their Hong Kong identity card (HKID card) copy for authentication in respect of their electronic registration to upload their HKID card copy via the Scheme website (www.consumptionvoucher.gov.hk) on or before August 16 to complete the registration procedure.  People who have completed electronic registration on or after July 18 and all paper form registrants will receive the first voucher with a value of $2,000 on September 1 after their eligibility is confirmed.

The Government spokesman said that some registrations submitted during the registration period could not be further processed for various reasons, such as inaccurate information or failing to staple a copy of their HKID card to the paper registration form, etc.  These registrants who wish to resubmit their registration should first confirm that the information to be submitted this time is correct and complete.  In case these registrants may not be able to resubmit before the end of the registration period, the Government has made special arrangement to allow them to resubmit their completed paper registration forms together with their HKID copy in person or by a trusted person to the Consumption Voucher Scheme Secretariat at 17/F, Pioneer Centre, 750 Nathan Road, Mongkok, Kowloon, during office hours on or before August 31.

Those who are required to upload their HKID copy for authentication to complete their electronic registration but are unable to do so by August 16 as required may also resubmit their registration through this special arrangement.

However, the arrangement does not apply to those who are confirmed to be ineligible under the Scheme or who have never submitted any registration before.

Each eligible registrant can only resubmit once during the period from August 16 to 31 using paper registration form.  Registrants with their eligibility confirmed will receive disbursement of the first voucher of $2,000 on October 1.  In general, they will receive an SMS notification informing them of their registration result in mid-September.  They may also enquire about their registration status through the interactive voice response system of the hotline 18 5000.

The Government spokesman reminded the public again that they should protect their personal data carefully when registering for the Scheme and using the vouchers. They should only seek help from those they trust if assistance is needed.

The Government and its contractors will send SMS notifications related to the Scheme to registrants and communicate with them by designated telephone numbers only. Registrants will not be required to provide their personal data over the phone.  The designated telephone numbers are listed on the Scheme website. The public should beware of phishing emails, online and telephone scams, and should not click on any hyperlink embedded in suspicious SMS notifications.

The public may visit the Scheme website or call the hotline 18 5000 for enquiries if they have any questions about the Scheme.

Hong Kong – Registration of Consumption Voucher Scheme with “iAM Smart”

Registration of Consumption Voucher Scheme with “iAM Smart”

**********************************************************************

The “iAM Smart” system has once been heavily loaded this morning (July 4). Members of the public may encounter some problems when login and authenticate their identity using “iAM Smart” to register for the Consumption Voucher Scheme (the Scheme).

The “iAM Smart” system has already resumed normal service but a longer queuing time is still needed as the number of people choosing to register through the platform remains high.

A spokesman stressed that the website of the Scheme (www.consumptionvoucher.gov.hk) has been operating smoothly all along. Registration directly through the website using other ways of authentication, for example, by answering two security questions to authenticate their identity if they have successfully registered and received payment or collected the cheque under the Cash Payout Scheme, is simple and smooth and no queuing was required. The whole registration process took only a few minutes to complete.

Eligible persons who have completed electronic registration in the first two weeks (i.e. on or before July 17) will receive the first voucher on August 1, hence there is no need to rush for registration during the first one or two days, the spokesman added.
