Curleytail Design Celebrates 25 Years in Business!

PALM COAST, Fla.March 7, 2023PRLog — It would be hard to venture around town and not see some of the logo creations of Kim Fitzgerald, owner of Curleytail Design. That’s because since 1998 Kim has created branding, logo design, business cards, brochures, direct mail campaigns and more for thousands of local businesses. The company is pleased to be celebrating 25 years in business this month!

Her work doesn’t just appear on paper and in magazines….it’s on work vehicles that pull up beside you at a stoplight, on building signage, even in your social media feeds.

Kim’s passion, and what she finds the most rewarding, lies in creating the brand identity and marketing strategies for new businesses.

The Fitzgerald family moved to Palm Coast in 1978. Kim discovered her love of art at Bunnell Elementary School and it continued to grow through to graduation from Flagler Palm Coast High School in 1985. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Art from Flagler College, she continued her education in Advertising Art Direction at the Portfolio Center in Atlanta, GA.

After earning her degree, she furthered her design and marketing experience by working in the real estate and land development industry in Flagler County for over a decade. But she wanted to take her creativity further so in 1998 Kim launched Curleytail Design. Kim attributes hard work, honesty, and giving back to the community as the key to the company’s success.

Over the past two decades, Curleytail Design has won the Flagler Palm Coast News-Tribune’s Best-All-Around Graphic Design Agency award for 17 years running. She was nominated by the Daytona Beach News-Journal as one of the Most Influential Women in Business, was the winner of the Professional Women of Flagler County (PWFC) Business of the Year, and the Palm Coast Business

Professionals Business of the Year, and was inducted into the Flagler Palm Coast High School’s Arts Hall of Fame. She currently holds the position of Co-Director of Marketing for the PWFC group and is on the Small Business Council for the Palm Coast – Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce. She also enjoys attending events with the Boss Ladies of Flagler County.

Ten years ago, Kim decided to launch the website TheBrandingBox.club. The idea came out of wanting to align Curleytail Design with other top-notch businesses to foster a community of ‘go-to’ companies. She started the initiative with the owner of Marketing 2 Go, Cindy Dalecki. The pair fostered partnerships with the area’s best website/SEO professionals, photographers, illustrators, copywriters, event planners, and more to benefit their customers. Kim says, “The Branding Box is where talent, creativity, and a passion for helping businesses succeed takes place.”

In addition to her branding services, Kim takes pride in connecting like-minded people and assisting local charities with their design needs. Some of the nonprofits that tug at Kim’s heartstrings include our local Rotary clubs, The Flagler Humane Society, Flagler Auditorium Dennis Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center (named in memory of Kim’s father), Flagler Open Arms Recovery Services (Flagler OARS), Grace Food Pantry and many more.

22nd Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition Winners Announced

With this year’s Avant Garde theme, the 22nd Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition’s winning pieces reflected the creativity, acute sense of style and boundless imagination of local designers. The competition aims to encourage innovation and enhance the design quality of Hong Kong eyewear products, identify new talents and promote Hong Kong’s creative products to international markets.
The award presentation held on 13 January was organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Design Institute as co-organisers.

The competition was divided into two categories: the Open Group and Student Group. The judging panel made up of experts in different disciplines evaluated the entries based on (1) product design, (2) practicability and functionality, (3) product description, (4) marketability and (5) presentation.

Winning pieces represent local innovation

Survival Next designed by Lai Pui Yan, BOBO from OKIA Optical Co. Ltd came top of the Open Group and received the Made-to-Sell Award. Her eyewear design was inspired by the gear NFT video game characters use for survival. The product allows wearers to travel between the virtual and real worlds.

Representing Sun Hing Vision Group Holdings Limited, Leung Ngai Ming’s Turning was the first runner-up of the Open Group with his futuristic folding sunglasses. With a 360-degree hinge, the eyewear can be changed into four forms, namely sunglasses, optical glasses, folding glasses and butterfly shapes.

The Open Group’s second runner-up Chim Pui Ho & Lam Long Him’s Time Traveler incorporated the concept of time travel into their design. The eyewear’s left side represents the past through the use of traditional materials and techniques, while the right highlighted the future with a bolder appearance and colour tone, a perfect fusion of the past and future.

Discovering design talents of tomorrow

For the Student Group, Yip Tsz Yan of the School for Higher and Professional Education, took first place with her Parallel Universe design. The eyewear’s intricate geometric and parallelism design represent the intersection between life and infinity.

Osseon designed by Wong Zhen Jie, Lionel of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was first runner-up of the Student Group. The design’s surface undulations blur the boundaries between the exterior and interior. It can be produced by 3D printing, with tough but flexible PA12 nylon. It can be dyed in different colours to accentuate wearers’ individual taste.

The Student Group’s second runner-up was Lau Chi Sum of Youth College International. Titled Infinity, the design is composed of two semi-reflective lenses and a customisable layer of glowing powder between them. It appears to have an infinite depth with mutable colours and patterns, which can be customised for individual wearers.

The Creativity Award was presented to Law Hoi Shan, Jamela. Her Morphogenesis design encourages viewers to embrace transhuman aesthetics and envision humanity’s evolution. Apart from correcting myopia, hyperopia and presbyopia, the multi-purpose accessory allows wearers to use different lenses to access diverse features, such as magnification, light polarisation and colour enhancement. By looking through different lenses, wearers are encouraged to look at the world through different eyes.

Apart from trophies, cash prizes and certificates, the winning works will be publicised on the website of the 31st Hong Kong International Optical Fair as well as the website and annual journal of the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association. The winning pieces have the opportunity to be on display at international optical events.

The 31st Hong Kong International Optical Fair will take place from 8 to 10 November 2023 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), while the online exhibition will run from 8 to 17 November 2023.

Architectural Design of $4 Billion Electric Vehicle Battery Plant in Kansas

WEBWIRE

Panasonic Energy Co., Ltd., a Panasonic Group company, recently announced its selection of SSOE Group as the provider of primary engineering design and architectural design oversight for the companys electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in De Soto, Kansas. SSOE, an internationally ranked firm, has been at the forefront of the transition to EV working with the worlds largest and most innovative battery companies to support the manufacturing process at every point in the supply chain.

Panasonics First Standalone EV Battery Facility in the U.S.

Making batteries since the 1930s, Panasonics current focus is on bringing EV batteries to the masses. The De Soto facility, the companys first standalone EV battery facility in the U.S., will help do just that. Panasonic has grown to become the largest lithium-ion battery manufacturer in North America, delivering 6 billion cells and counting. The Japanese-based companys expansion in De Soto will not only be transformative for the entire state of Kansas bringing in a projected $2.5 billion in yearly economic activity to make it the largest economic development undertaking in the states history it will also allow Panasonic to ramp up production to meet surging demand and lead the evolution of the EV industry in the U.S.

Carl Walton, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Facilities at Panasonic and the program executive for the De Soto plant, shared, Were really excited about making history here in Kansas. We dont see this as just a facility were building, but a legacy. Its not just about batteries, its about changing lives for the better.

Due to the complexity of the design and size of the facility, the City of De Soto will approve its development plan one phase at a time. Panasonic broke ground on the new plant in November and along with project partners SSOE and Mackenzie the contracted architect of record for the production facility presented preliminary design and civil site plans to the citys Planning Commission.

SSOEs Dana Brumley, PE, PMP, who is the design manager on the De Soto plant, commented, We are deeply honored that Panasonic has invited SSOE on this journey with them. It is a very humbling experience to be a part of such a history-making project. Interacting with Panasonic, the City of De Soto, and the State of Kansas so closely really gives perspective to the magnitude of the project we are delivering. Over the next few years, this project will also be responsible for providing tens of thousands of jobs from construction and facility operations. Panasonic and SSOE are a great fit, the fact that our cultures naturally align has streamlined the ability to communicate and deliver what Panasonic is looking for in this facility.

A Site to Behold

SSOEs involvement began at the earliest stage of the project when the firm became engaged in site evaluation efforts with Panasonics site selection team. The firm pulled together a team of architects and engineers to guide Panasonic through defining and ranking site criteria, assisting in the evaluation of multiple campus locations. In July, Panasonic ultimately landed on Astra Enterprise Park (formerly the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant), originally constructed in World War II and vacant for a quarter of a century, with 300 acres and hundreds of millions of dollars in incentive packages to go with it. A win for Kansas, this is the first economic development project exceeding a billion dollars for the state and will once again make the location a key economic driver for the region. Two contractors from the greater Kansas City area, Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. and Kissick Construction Co. Inc., have been awarded contracts for site preparation.

In parallel with site evaluation efforts, SSOE worked with Panasonic to generate a preliminary Basis of Design with enough detail to allow the construction manager, Industrial Project Innovation, to forecast a construction estimate in a post-COVID market.

Where Form Meets Function

Designing a facility that aligns with Panasonics employee-centric culture continues to be top of mind. The site plan limits interaction between vehicles and pedestrians through a thoughtfully designed parking layout, one-way traffic, separate truck entrance, and site-specific traffic study. Architectural design is still in progress but promises the intelligent integration of production process into building design and spaces throughout to specifically support employees. The U-shaped design of the production facility will frame various support structures and utility buildings that will reside behind it.

About SSOE Group

As an internationally ranked architecture and engineering design firm with a nearly 75-year history, SSOEs combined expertise in the automotive, chemical, and advanced technology markets brings an unparalleled perspective to the design of battery and EV facilities. The firm has worked with the worlds largest and most innovative automotive and battery manufacturing companies to retrofit facilities for EV production, design and construct greenfield EV plants, and support the battery manufacturing process at every point in the supply chain. SSOE is currently engaged in over 25 battery / EV projects in North America and has more than 18 million SF of battery plant design experience that extends throughout the battery lifecycle from raw materials to recycling.
