Reporter: Someone has information of Hong Kong National Security Law (NSL) suspects but fail to report to the Police, or if they are family members of wanted individuals, will they also be in violation of the law? For other relatives and families of those wanted individuals, are they permitted to provide them with any sort of financial support? Finally, journalists who have opportunities to interview these individuals, what approach should they have?

Secretary for Security: Under the Hong Kong National Security Law, it is illegal for anyone to aid, abet or provide financial support for those offenders who have committed offences under the NSL. It doesn’t matter what background they have. Thank you very much.

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung, at a media session after attending a radio programme today (May 6):

Reporter: Can you also recap in English about the Police’s seizure of “Pillar of Shame”?

Secretary for Security: The seizure of that particular exhibit is a particular case that will be in court proceeding, so I am not in a good position to comment on an individual case. But I have to emphasise that Police’s investigation, in any case, won’t stop at a particular stage. If we consider that there is a value to seize anything, we will do it in accordance with the law, and in accordance with the court procedures.

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, at a media session after viewing the vaccination of children at a kindergarten-cum-child care centre in To Kwa Wan this morning (August 4):

Reporter: Secretary, what do you think of parents’ response on the vaccination so far? How many have already signed up through the online system, and also what’s the progress on providing the BioNTech vaccine for children?

Secretary for the Civil Service: I am actually quite encouraged by the response of parents today. For the first half hour since today’s opening of the booking system, there have been 150 bookings made for infants between 6 months old and 3 years old already, and there have been kindergartens lining up for outreach service for children in the next week. So I am quite encouraged actually, and I believe in the days to come there will be more parents arranging the vaccination of their children.

Reporter: And what’s the progress on the BioNTech vaccine discussion?

Secretary for the Civil Service: The Health Bureau is now discussing with the company producing the vaccine. We are in discussion. So I believe the Health Bureau colleagues will be diligently pursuing.

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

May 7, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade.

Minister Ng strongly condemned President Putin’s unprovoked and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine and Russia’s horrific attacks on innocent civilians. She reiterated Canada’s commitment to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities and economy, and to stand by its people through ongoing humanitarian and financial assistance. Budget 2022 announced up to $1 billion in new loans to Ukraine through the International Monetary Fund.

Minister Ng outlined how Canada continues to work with the international community to introduce a range of economic measures to hold Putin and his enablers accountable and to isolate Russia and Belarus from the global economy. This includes unprecedented economic sanctions and restrictions on sectors critical to the Russian and Belarusian economies, including transportation, defence, finance and energy.

Lastly, the ministers discussed the impact of Russia’s invasion on global food security and prices. These priorities will be discussed at the upcoming 12th Ministerial Conference of the WTO in Geneva on June 12 to 15.
