BAY HEAD, N.J.Dec. 16, 2022PRLog — HOPE Sheds Light, Inc. (HSL), a family focused non-profit organization offering education, resources, support and HOPE to everyone and anyone affected by substance use disorder, recently hosted its 4th Annual Evening of HOPE, honoring Beverly Prima. The sold-out event was held on Friday, November 18th at the Bay Head Yacht Club (111 Metcalfe Street, Bay Head). HSL’s HOPE Partner is Earle Foundation, its Platinum Partners are Burning Tree, FWH Associates, Jan A & Holly Kokes Foundation, Mabie Family, Pr1ma Corporation, Sambol Family Foundation and Woodhaven Lumber, and its Gold Partners are The Citta Foundation and Rosetto Realty. The event’s HOPE Sponsor was Pr1ma Corporation, The Earle Family Foundation and The McElwee Family. Proceeds benefited HOPE Sheds Light.

The evening kicked off HSL’s 10-year anniversary celebration (2013-2023) and featured tapas-style dining, gourmet specialty stations, cocktails, mocktails and dancing. The goal through this event was to honor the many people and corporations who have helped make HSL’s work possible and continue to unite the community and bring awareness to the disease of substance use disorder.

In a room filled with over 200 people, HSL held an inspirational ceremony and award presentation to Beverly Prima, the wife of HSL Co-founder Arvo Prima. “You have become the face of HOPE Sheds Light,” said Pamela Capaci, CEO of HSL. “You are the one that everyone knows, the one that has shown all of us that hope and recovery are possible. It is through your strength that we are able to get through our darkest days and always see the light.”

Beverly humbly accepted this year’s coveted Transforming Lives Through HOPE butterfly award. “I am honored to accept this award,” she said. “I wanted to carry on the legacy of help and hope because I think that is what my son Paavo would have wanted. My son didn’t want to be this way, but there was something blocking him. And, unfortunately, he couldn’t work through that, but I believe that he is working through us now. I believe that he is here. HSL was a small nonprofit organization that has grown by leaps and bounds, and we are being guided by Paavo, Mark and Marc. They are our angels working into this community and having us spread the idea that hope is here and together we can end the stigma of the disease of addiction.”

Capaci thanked all the event sponsors, partners and friends who made this evening possible. “Gratitude filled the room as we looked back on the last 10 years,” she said. “We’ve heard so many stories. Stories that eventually led to renewal and transformation. The underlining message in each one is clear – hope is alive, and it is stronger than ever.”

Founded in 2012 after co-founder Ron Rosetto lost his son Marc to a battle against substance abuse.  HOPE Sheds Light acts as a voice of hope in a community in desperate need of knowing that recovery is possible. Along with Co-founders Arvo Prima and Stephen Willis, and a team of board members and volunteers, HSL aims to shed light into the shadows of stigma and fear.

Japan – MHI: Advanced light water reactor “SRZ-1200”

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) in collaboration with four Japanese PWR utilities*, has developed the conceptual design of an advanced light water reactor “SRZ-1200”. This reactor has additional safety features when compared to conventional pressurized light water reactors. It is in the intention of MHI to take the SRZ-1200 conceptual design and proceed with basic design efforts. These efforts will ensure new innovative nuclear technologies are available toward a stable energy supply for Japan.

Advanced light water reactor “SRZ-1200”

The SRZ-1200 is a 1,200MWe class advanced light water reactor designed based on enhanced Japanese regulatory safety standards which incorporates lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Development of the SRZ-1200 is in progress which will ensure the regulatory requirements of “strengthening safety equipment” and “resistance to natural disaster and security against terrorism and unforeseen event” are fulfilled. The cumulation of this development will ensure safety and reliability of the SRZ-1200.

Relative to new safety mechanisms, even though the SRZ-1200 accounts for global lesson learned, low-probability postulated events are still accounted for in the design to ensure plant and public safety. These safety mechanisms include, but are not limited to, an advanced accumulator design, and systems which effectively reduce the probability of radioactivity release in the event of a postulated accident. Efforts of this nature and the resultant SRZ-1200 design features will limit any impact to the public and plant site.

Furthermore, the SRZ-1200 design is intended to enhance operational flexibility which will effectively allow for improved electrical power delivery alongside variable electric power sources such as renewables. The ability to adapt the SRZ-1200 for hydrogen production will also be studied to ensure that all potential uses of energy generated from this plant are efficiently and proactively applied for all of societal needs.

MHI has been involved in the construction and maintenance of all of the 24 PWRs in Japan and has led the efforts to restart and ensure the safe operation of the existing nuclear power plants. These efforts will continue as we bring the SRZ-1200 to market as early as possible to realize a carbon-neutral society for Japan.

The name of SRZ has the following meaning:
S: supreme safety, sustainability
R: resilient light water reactor
Z: ultimate type (Z) contributing to society by Zero Carbon emission.
(In Japan, “Z” also has a meaning of “ultimate type”)
1200: represents the electrical power output of 1200MWe class

Taking into account the Fukushima Daiichi accident, MHI Group strives to continuously enhance safety through the restart of existing nuclear power plants as well as the safe and stable operation upon restart. This is part of our contribution to society and we intend to continue this contribution through the development of advanced light water reactors which achieve the world’s highest level of safety.

*Four PWR utilities: Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc., The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc., and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc.

HOPE Sheds Light hosts ribbon cutting ceremony at 2510 Apache Road in Manasquan

The new Monmouth County location offers hope and support to families that are impacted by substance use disorder.

HSL hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 18.

HSL hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 18.

MANASQUAN, N.J.July 19, 2022PRLog — In 2012, three fathers came together to start a nonprofit that provides hope, resources and support to families impacted by addiction. Their goal was simple – remove the stigma and fear surrounding substance use disorder and act as a voice of hope in a community in desperate need of knowing that recovery is possible.  Nine years later, that nonprofit has grown into one of New Jersey’s leaders in the recovery community.

HOPE Sheds Light (HSL), a family-focused non-profit organization that offers education, resources, support and hope to anyone impacted by substance use disorder, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Monmouth County location on July 18th at 2510 Apache Road in Manasquan. The organization also has a location 253 Chestnut Street in Toms River.

“We have a great blend of volunteers, staff, supporters and the recovery community with us and that’s what a recovery center should look like,” said Pamela Capaci, CEO of HSL. “We need to be a part of the community in every aspect and today reflects that.”

A pivotal part of HSL’s journey into Monmouth County occurred in 2021 when it partnered with Recovery Advocates of the Jersey Shore, Inc. (RAFTS).

Similar to HSL, RAFTS Inc. was a non-profit, non-clinical, peer-based recovery community organization providing support and resources to individuals and families impacted by substance use and related disorders.

“We saw the need within our community and too many people were suffering,” said Nicole Federici, Co-founder of RAFTS. “As a mom, I needed to reach out to other people to share my journey with others and encourage them to seek help and how to find good help.”

Federici started RAFTS in 2017 and quickly began working with the county and different agencies throughout Monmouth County to complete its mission.

“It was my full-time job volunteering for RAFTS, and I wanted to expand even further throughout Monmouth County,” said Federici. “The need was great, so we partnered with HOPE Sheds Light, a like-minded agency, and through that merger, we were able to expand our services throughout Monmouth County and acquire this freestanding building. This recovery center will provide all families a place to come to without judgement and just love. That’s what we are all about, loving people into recovery.”

County Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley echoed these sentiments.  “Recovery has been very close to my heart for the last 10 years,” she said. “We have a crisis in our country… we all know it. We have fentanyl pouring in over the borders and we have it put into pills that look like they are something else and they are not. It is my mission in life to do something about that. We are doing all the great things to help them out of it, but we have to prevent them from getting into it in the first place.”

Kiley concluded the ceremony by presenting HOPE Sheds Light with a Certificate of Recognition and congratulating the organization on its new location. “You have all of our support from the Monmouth County Commissioner’s Office,” she added.

Programming at the new Manasquan location will include classes focused on wellness, nutrition and illness management, self-care, stress management, financial management, literacy education, job and parenting skills. “This new location will allow us to offer peer-to-peer support and receive training, social, educational and recreational opportunities to Monmouth County residents,” said Capaci.

Looking to the future, the nonprofit will host its 9th Annual Celebration of HOPE Walk on Saturday, September 10, 2022 on Hiering Avenue in Seaside Heights. For more information, please visit HOPEShedsLight.org. (http://www.hopeshedslight.org/)
