Canada – Pictou Landing First Nation to pursue spring moderate livelihood lobster fishery

The Government of Canada is committed to advancing reconciliation. April 29, 2022

Moncton, New Brunswick – The Government of Canada is committed to advancing reconciliation. Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is actively working with First Nations across the Maritime provinces and the Gaspé region of Québec to further implement their Treaty right to fish in pursuit of a moderate livelihood while maintaining healthy fisheries for all harvesters for generations to come.

Today, the Government of Canada joined Pictou Landing First Nation in Nova Scotia in announcing that its members will be fishing jakej, the Mi’kmaq word for lobster, in pursuit of a moderate livelihood under the community’s Netukulimk Livelihood Fisheries Plan, supported by a Fisheries Act authorization, during the spring 2022 commercial season.

Pictou Landing First Nation will designate community members to harvest and sell jakej (lobster) fished from waters known as Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 26A, in their traditional fishing territory. Moderate livelihood fishing is authorized to begin and end at the same time as the commercial fishing season in LFA 26A.

With this announcement, Pictou Landing First Nation joins Acadia, Bear River, Annapolis Valley and Potlotek First Nations who have previously developed understandings with DFO whereby they are exercising their rights through moderate livelihood fishing plans.

“Indigenous reconciliation is a high priority for me and for our government. This understanding with Pictou Landing First Nation to commence a moderate livelihood fishery this spring marks a significant step toward improving relations with First Nations communities and implementing Treaty rights. The Pictou Landing First Nation, my Department and the Government of Canada all have similar goals of conservation, peace, safety and economic benefit. Congratulations to all who worked to make this happen.”

The Honourable Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard

“I’m pleased to see the discussions are ongoing between Pictou Landing First Nation and the federal government. This understanding recognizes the right of the community to fish for a moderate livelihood while ensuring conservation of the species that helps sustain our local economy. As the lobster season is set to begin in the coming days, I wish all harvesters, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, a safe and successful season on the water.”

Mobile Mark Upgrades LTM Series Antennas with LTMWG946 for 6X WIFI 6E

Mobile Mark’s new LTMWG946 is an upgraded version of the LTM 900 Series. It combines 11-antenna elements: 4x 5G Sub-6, 6x WiFi 6E and a GNSS element in one attractive antenna housing. This antenna provides extensive MIMO coverage on both 5G Sub-6 and WiFi 6E. The LTM Series antennas now can be configured with Up to 6 WiFi Elements. The cellular elements for the LTMWG 900 Series are optimized to cover up to 7.2 GHz.

The LTMWG946 is designed for 5G Sub-6 Fixed Networks such as CBRS & C-Band Private Networks with supplemental WiFi 6E coverage. This upgraded LTM series antenna is compatible with Advanced Multi-band Routers that are designed for high speed, large data transfers using 5G or WiFi 6E, but is also backwards compatible for 4G LTE & WiFi 2.4/5 GHz networks. In addition, it is customizable with fewer WiFi elements. Typical antenna applications include Vehicle Fleet Management and Public Transportation.

This compact antenna measures only 5 ½ inches in diameter and less than 2 ½ inches in height. The antenna is lightweight but sturdy, making it easier to install, plus it takes up less space than similar 11-element antennas.

The LTMWG946 is surface mounted, and all eleven 1-foot cable pigtails exit through the single stud. Additional 14-feet low-loss cable assemblies are provided for each antenna element and are color-coded for quick matchups. With this many cables, most users find that installations are easier if the long cables are separated from the antenna. Please note that the LTMWG946 is not available as a Mag-Mount or Ceiling Mount. Custom cable lengths and connectors are available upon request to ensure it suits your application’s demands.

System Integrators can mount this antenna on top of vehicles such as busses and trucks. Or the antenna can be used as a fixed site infrastructure solution. Your wireless network will benefit from solid and reliable coverage by using the LTMWG946.

This Made-in-the-USA LTM series antenna is designed and built in Mobile Mark’s Itasca, Illinois factory.

Operation Deploy Your Dress Hosts Free Pop-Up Boutique for Military Community

Operation Deploy Your Dress will host a free pop-up boutique for military community members on Saturday, April 30th at the Headquarters of the Association of the United States Army in Arlington, VA. ODYD and AUSA will welcome over 600 military community members including active-duty service members, military spouses and eligible DoD ID card holders.

“We’re so excited to be coming back to the National Capital Region for our 5th annual Operation Deploy Your Dress pop-up event in partnership with the Association of the United States Army. There are so many military families, from all branches of service, in this area. We find this is the best, and most fun, way to show support for them,” said Yvonne Coombes, CEO and co-founder of Operation Deploy Your Dress.

Set-up for the pop-up boutique begins Thursday with the transformation of the AUSA conference space into a unique to ODYD shopping experience. Racks with close to 2,000 gowns will be set-up, make-shift changing areas will be constructed and display tables with jewelry, wristlets, shoes, and handbags will be displayed to mimic a high-end boutique with one major difference – all items are free to the military-connected shoppers.

“I am so excited about seeing the inventory of dresses. I love the thought of giving a beautiful dress another life. The traditions rooted in balls is something I’m so fond of, especially because I’m a third generation military wife, so my mother and my grandmothers once spent time finding the perfect dress to wear to their balls,” said Rachael Monique, active duty Army military spouse and first-time pop-up shopper and volunteer.

Over the last several months ODYD’s all-volunteer team have set up drop-off locations for formalwear and accessories to be deployed for the pop-up event. The response has been tremendous, and the team had to pause accepting deployments two weeks ahead of schedule because of the generosity of the North Capital Region civilian and military supporters.

“The amazing citizens in the area are so supportive that it allows us to bring our event to another level and Deploy the NCR’s Patriotism One Dress at a Time,” said Coombes, 2020–2021 Armed Forces Insurance ARMY Spouse of the Year.”

The pop-up boutique opens at 8:00am with exclusive shopping hours for AUSA members and then runs all day until 4:00pm. Registration for the event is required and a few open shopping spots remain. Visit the www.operationdeployyourdress.org to register and learn more about our 13 ODYD shop locations around the globe.

About Operation Deploy Your Dress

Operation Deploy Your Dress was founded by five military spouses who wanted to ensure attendance at military balls was not out of reach for junior enlisted families due to the cost of formalwear. Since 2016, ODYD has re-deployed over 16,000 gowns and saved the military community close to $2 million dollars through the Mission to Deploy America’s Patriotism One Dress at a Time.
