Catholic School Builds Community Through New Soccer Field

St. Mary’s Catholic School now has a 50′ x 80′ soccer field on campus for students. Urban Soccer Park’s project was completed in April 2022 as part of the Westside Grounds Project, which focused on providing a new amenity on the property that did not have green space.

Students now have a field for recess, training, sports, and the ability to do it all on campus. The field has been over-turfed so they can use the surrounding areas to warm-up and play other sports. The field includes futsal goals, lights, two doors, and surrounding netting. With the addition of this field, the school will be able to provide the space to help in their mission to build character, welcome the community, and cater to each individual to help them reach their fullest potential.

The St. Mary’s Catholic School project was planned in order to help the school provide a multi-functional, safe place to play on school grounds. The campus was thus far without green space, so the school’s primary goal was to provide students with something other than concrete to play on during school activities. Another key mission is to welcome the community, which they will be able to provide for events and other groups to use.

Urban Soccer Park helped St. Mary’s Catholic School accomplish three goals:

– To upgrade their schools grounds for their kids to use for recess and activities

– Use the field as a revenue generator for the school

– Use as a new multi-functional amenity

About Urban Soccer Park:

At Urban Soccer Park, less is more. Mini-pitches grow the sport, create life-long enjoyment of the game, and develop world-class skills. Everyone at USP is a coach, an athlete, or a parent. Throughout our decades of experience, we’ve traveled the world and witnessed the undeniable proof that small-sided soccer is that secret sauce—it creates brilliant players and great footballing nations. And the beauty is that they actually require less real estate, less overhead, and less set-up time, yet provide more touches on the ball, more playing time and a deeper understanding of game concepts.

Hong Kong – First school has students vaccinated with Sinovac at Community Vaccination Centre via group booking (with photos)

First school has students vaccinated with Sinovac at Community Vaccination Centre via group booking (with photos)

******************************************************************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Patrick Nip, viewed the administering of the Sinovac vaccine to some 30 students at the Community Vaccination Centre (CVC) at Kwun Chung Sports Centre this afternoon (December 3).

Persons aged between 12 and 17 have been able to receive the Sinovac vaccine since December 2. Scientia Secondary School is the first school to have students vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine at a CVC through group booking.

“The Sinovac vaccine offers an option for teenagers and parents. A higher vaccination rate of students will help students to resume full-day schooling and normal extra-curricular activities as soon as possible. Under the threat posed by mutant strains with high transmissibility, persons who are eligible for vaccination, including teenagers, should get vaccinated as early as possible to protect themselves,” Mr Nip said.

Apart from making reservations for vaccination at the CVCs or the two designated clinics under the Hospital Authority through the designated website of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme (www.covidvaccine.gov.hk), they can make a reservation for a Sinovac vaccination through private doctors or clinics enrolled in the Vaccination Programme.

In addition, five Student Health Service Centres of the Department of Health provide the Sinovac vaccine to students aged 12 to 17 as well as health information to parents and students. Parents can call the Student Health Service at 2856 9133 for appointment booking.

Persons aged 12 to 17 are required to bring along a consent form signed by their parents to get their vaccinations. The consent form can be downloaded from the designated website of the Vaccination Programme (www.covidvaccine.gov.hk/pdf/Consent_Form_for_COVID19_Vaccination_ENG.pdf).

Moreover, Mr Nip attended the launching ceremony of the COVID-19 Mobile Vaccination Station and inspected the first-day operation of the mobile vaccination vehicle at Sun Chui Estate in Sha Tin this morning. A total of 486 persons got vaccinated with the BioNTech vaccine at the mobile vaccination vehicle today.

The Mobile Vaccination Station will continue to serve members of the public, in particular the elderly, who want to receive the BioNTech vaccine at Sun Chui Estate tomorrow (December 4).

The service schedule of the Mobile Vaccination Station has been uploaded to the designated website of the Vaccination Programme (www.covidvaccine.gov.hk/en/programme). For enquiries and bookings, members of the public can call 5193 0375.

Before making an appointment, members of the public should take note of a minimum interval of 14 days between a COVID-19 vaccination and any other vaccinations (including the seasonal flu vaccine).

High School Student Fights COVID One Glove at a Time with Fuel Door Gloves

Alexander W Dreyfoos School of the Arts high school student Byron Matysek, 18, creates innovative solution to reduce the spread of COVID-19 at gas stations.

Disposable gloves mount in a small pouch on vehicle fuel doors to protect gas station patrons.

Gas stations, convenience stores, employers, and branding specialists pick up innovative product solution, “Fuel Door Gloves.”

Byron Matysek, 18, a high school senior, along with his father, Christopher Matysek, have developed a unique concept to protect patrons at gas stations from COVID-19.

It is now possible to safely pump gas without touching potentially contaminated gas nozzles or electric car charging plugs. The disposable gloves are stored in a small pouch, conveniently attached to the inside of the vehicle’s fuel door.

“We worked together on the idea, and now we have a provisional patent,” explains Christopher, Byron’s father. “I am so proud of the work my son has done as a high school senior. He wants to help people stay safe during the pandemic, and he is making a difference!”

Most Americans get gas every 7 to 10 days, which means touching those filthy nozzles 3 or 4 times a month. Reuters(TM) reports, “Gas pump handles turned out to be the filthiest surface that Americans encounter on the way to work,” based on a study by Kimberly-Clark(TM). So, avoiding touching those gas pump handles helps reduce exposure to all kinds of germs, not just COVID-19.

The Bretheim Family explains, “We count on Fuel Door Gloves to keep us safe and to not bring the virus home with us. We know that our family can stay safe even when we still have to travel to work, keeping our family safe using Fuel Door Gloves that we can have delivered right to our door!”

Having gloves handy makes a difference in every situation during the pandemic. The hardest part is making sure you always have the gloves where you need them when you need them. That is the ingenious part of the Fuel Door Gloves. They are always right where you need them when you need them.

Byron and Christopher hope that families all across the nation follow the Bretheim family example. Using Fuel Door Gloves at the gas station and while recharging electric cars shows how this 18 year-old high-schooler is fighting the virus One-Glove-At-A-Time.
