NFRA Publishes list of Audit firms/ auditors Who not filed mandatory NFRA-2 form

The National Financial Reporting Authority has published a list of audit forms/auditors who have not filed the mandatory e-form, NFRA-2, for the reporting period 2018-19 and 2019-20.

The annual return is to be filed in accordance with Rule 5 of National Financial Reporting Authority Rules, 2018. The auditors/audit firms of class of companies specified in Rule 3 of NFRA Rules 2018 are required to file the annual return on or before 30th November every year.

In the past also NFRA had identified cases of non-compliance with the above statutory requirements and sent intimations to defaulting firms. A list of such firms/auditors was also published on the website of NFRA and intimated to Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

For the reporting period 2018-19 (audit reports signed during the period 01.04.2018 to 31.03.2019), NFRA-2 was supposed to be filed by 30 November 2019. As it was the first year of filing, the date was extended upto 4 September 2020. A review revealed that a total of 617 audit firms/auditors have still not filed NFRA-2 for the reporting period 2018-19.

For the next reporting period, 2019-20 (Audit reports signed during the period 01.04.2019 to 31.03.2020), a total 1684 audit firms have so far not filed NFRA-2. The due date for filing NFRA-2 for reporting period 2019-20 was 30 November 2020.

The list of audit firms/auditors in default in respect of both these years is available on NFRA website (https://nfra.gov.in/nfra_domain). An intimation is also being sent by NFRA to such audit firms/auditors.

Attention of all defaulting audit firm/ auditors is invited to the fact that non-filing of NFRA-2 form is a non-compliance covered under Rule 13 of NFRA rules and attracts penal provisions. The rule has been further amended vide NFRA amendment Rules 2022 dated 17.06.22. The amended Rule 13 is published on NFRA website

Dr. Tom Brady publishes book titled “The Impact of Owens-Illinois on the World”

The author tells the story of how he and 30 of his colleagues left a Fortune 100 company to found businesses that helped transform the packaging industry.

San Diego, California – WEBWIRE

Dig into the stories of the people behind the technological advancement that changed the world.

Have you ever wondered why the world moved from glass and aluminum packaging to plastic packaging and, have you ever wanted to know the history behind PET plastics packaging? Dr. Tom Brady discusses the history of PET packaging and how he founded his company, Plastic Technologies, Inc., to help make all this happen, in his book “The Impact of Owens-Illinois on the World” (published by Amazon’s BookBaby; 2022).

Dr. Brady is one of the pioneers of the modern PET packaging industry. He began his career carrying out fundamental research on plastic packaging technology and led the commercialization of PET bottle technology at Owens-Illinois, before leaving to found Plastic Technologies, Inc. (PTI) and six other packaging-related companies that have continued to lead the development and commercialization of PET packaging.

Over a period of 40 years, Dr. Brady and his colleagues have received more than 150 patents relating to PET packaging and recycling and “many of the products you buy every day are sold in plastic containers designed by one of our PTI companies,” he told Plastics News.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with a PhD in Plastic Materials Engineering, Dr. Brady joined Owens-Illinois, Inc. as a Senior Scientist in 1972, and just as the carbonated soft drink companies were asking their suppliers to create and offer family-size carbonated beverage containers, which required an industry-wide conversion from glass and aluminum to plastic.

As a result, and over a short 10-year period, Dr. Brady and his colleagues, along with other industry plastic package suppliers, created an entirely new industry to supply sustainable PET packaging to the beverage, food, and personal care product brand owners.

When Owens-Illinois began questioning its involvement in plastic packaging because plastic was beginning to impact its glass container business, Dr. Brady and many of his R&D colleagues who had helped to diversify Owens-Illinois’ business portfolio left the company to either start or operate other major businesses which helped to transform the entire packaging industry.

Dr. Brady wrote “The Impact of Owens-Illinois on the World” to capture the stories of those former O-I employees who, without competing with Owens-Illinois, have employed their talents to create or nurture many dynamic and successful business enterprises. Dr. Brady wrote his book to recognize the significant contributions those former O-I employees have made to society, in addition to what they contributed during their careers at Owens-Illinois.

“Impact of Owens-Illinois on the World” by Dr. Tom Brady is available at the BookBaby bookshop.

Japan – MHI Publishes Integrated Report ‘MHI Report 2021’

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) today published the MHI Report 2021. This year’s report focuses on the growing interest in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors and modern society’s questioning of the current state of capitalism, presenting MHI Group’s management philosophy and information on specific corporate activities based on these factors.

The report begins with a dialogue between the MHI Group chairman and Takahiro Nakajima, noted philosopher and professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, the University of Tokyo, who share their thoughts on corporate management and governance in the new era. The President’s Message explains MHI Group’s path to value creation, focusing on the significance of MHI Group, and the concept for the Medium-term Business Plan (2021 Business Plan) created by backcasting from the MHI Group Vision for 2030.

For the 2021 Business Plan, the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) describes the specific strategies for “developing high growth businesses,” one of the plan’s two main themes. The other theme of “regain and strengthen profitability” is examined through a conversation on business portfolio management between the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Shoichi Tsumuraya, professor at Hitotsubashi University.

The report also contains an overview of MHI Group’s initiatives for sustainability, including company-wide targets and specific processes for the core issues (materiality) specified in 2020. A special feature presents MHI Group’s basic approach to measures for “energy transition,” one of the priority growth areas in the plan, including decarbonization of existing infrastructure, and establishing ecosystems for hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Further, the report shows the measures being pursued by each business, formulated based on the current situation determined using a SWOT analysis*.

The latter half of the report contains an explanation from the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) on efforts to strengthen core technologies, including specific examples of measures to realize innovation, while the Human Resources (HR) director provides an overview of measures to strengthen the personnel foundation-the source of MHI Group’s competitiveness-including measures that allow employees to work autonomously. The report also includes details of measures to ensure the effectiveness of corporate governance, including a new skill matrix of directors.

MHI Group, by issuing this report with a careful balance of financial and non-financial information, is demonstrating its stance toward protecting the global environment and its business direction to meet the current era, as well as providing clear communication to shareholders, investors, and a broad range of stakeholders.

*A SWOT Analysis is a technique for formulating management strategies by assessing the external and internal environment using a factor analysis with four categories (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), and determining how to optimally utilize management resources to adapt to changes in the business environment.

Author Publishes Enticing Children’s Picture Book

An amusing looks on what’s it like to treat cows as pets

Dr. Barbara ten Brink’s “Eight Pound Cows” is a fun and pleasant children’s book with the author envisioning cows as eight-pound pets. Dr. Brink got her idea for this story when she bought a ranch in Gruen, Texas and fenced 1000-pound cows. Having two poodles weighing only eight pounds, she imagined what it would be like if cows were the same. She could play with them, bring them to pet parks, train them, or bathe them. The cows would be so easy to pet and domesticate because they are calm and docile.

Young readers will surely enjoy the charm this book brings. Aside from the endearing story and the beautiful artwork, children are encouraged to engage fully with the text by letting their imagination run freely. They can write or illustrate their thoughts on how they can take care of their pet cows and have adventures with them. This is definitely a great exercise to improve kids’ writing and drawing skills. A great addition to children’s collection especially during these stressful times.

Dr. Barbara ten Brink is a native Texan who has lived in Japan, Germany, Maryland, and Virginia. She owns a twenty-acre ranch in Gruene, Texas where she builds fences, hoes cactus, and runs cows. Dr. Brink coordinated science instruction and teacher training for special projects offered to Austin Independent School District, an urban district of 82,000 students. She retired in December of 2019. Dr. Brink has already published several books, including “Traveling with Isaac Newton,” “Choosing the Path of Teaching – A Letter from Mentor to Mentee,” and “The Haiku of Barbara ten Brink.” She is married to Henri A. ten Brink, a lawyer. They have an only child named Sam. For more information about Dr. Brink and her books, visit authorbarbaratenbrink.com.
