North Eastern Council (NEC) has been implementing various projects in different sector including health under MDoNER’s scheme, “Schemes of NEC”. The details of funds allotted (Amount of projects sanctioned) and utilised for health sector during the last five years is as under:

Projects sanctioned by NESIDS


The North East Special Infrastructure Development (NESID) scheme was approved in 15.12.2017, and since its inception 112 projects worth Rs 2589.14 crore have been sanctioned for the North Eastern States, against which funds amounting to Rs 1514.47 crore have been released by the Ministry.


This information was given by the Minister for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Shri G. Kishan Reddy in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.

Projects of eight Girl Innovators to be presented before the Startup Advisory Council – Shri Piyush Goyal


Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal held an Interaction with eight Girl Innovators today to mark the National Girl Child Day.


Addressing on the occasion, Shri Goyal said there is huge potential in each of the sectors that the eight Girl Childs have shown today:


  • Low-cost biodegradable sanitary napkins
  • Smart gloves which converts sign language to text & speech
  • Use of AI & GPS


“I am very inspired to see these Girl Innovators, making the nation as well as their parents proud at such a young age (10-18 yrs). You are the true leaders of India,” said Shri Goyal, during the programme held over Video Conference.


Stating that “When girls are empowered, then countries become stronger & more prosperous,” Shri  Goyal said we have to strengthen our Nari Shakti, as Prime Minister said, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.’


Shri Goyal said women today are challenging status quo and have stepped up as nation builders & change makers. India has been a powerhouse of strong women across fields: Be it sports (Meerabai Chanu, Mary Kom), Business (Falguni Nayyar of Nykaa, Indira Nooyi), Science & Technology (Kalpana Chawla), etc.


Shri Goyal gave a four point call for action:


1. Make Vocal for Local a Jan Andolan:


2. Become ambassadors of Quality Revolution: Increase consumer awareness & create sustainable goods with utmost focus on quality.


3. Collaborate with each other and with other fellow women entrepreneurs: Harness the immense potential of women in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.


4. Connect with India’s heritage: Explore our country’s rich culture & traditions to innovate in areas of handlooms, handicrafts, art & craft etc.


Shri Goyal said the projects of these eight Girl Innovators will be presented before the Startup Advisory Council after three months. During the programme, the Women & Child Development Minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani complimented Shri Goyal for his initiative and leadership in promoting Innovation among Girl students “in tribute to the Prime Minister’s clarion call of ensuring that New India will see Women led development.”


Shri Goyal said our women have time & again proven their capabilities. I would urge all girl children to:


  • Dream big
  • Never fear failure, failure is stepping stone to success
  • Lead with conviction & confidence


Quoting Steve Jobs, – “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do,” who really change the world,” Shri Goyal said, for a civilization to truly flourish we need to “Empower, Educate & Encourage” our girl child.

NEW PROJECTS FOR REJUVENATION OF 6 POLLUTED RIVER STRETCHES IN UTTARAKHAND APPROVED

The Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishratoday chaired the 36th Executive Committee meeting of NMCGand approved new projects for rejuvenation of 6 polluted river stretches in Uttarakhand. The proposals from State Mission, Uttarakhand for these polluted stretches have been under review by NMCG and were finalised and taken up for consideration by the EC today. It has approved the project of “Interception & Diversion (I&D) and STP work of 06 nos. Polluted River Stretches to Rejuvenate Rivers Bhela, Dhela, Kichha, Kosi, Nandhore, Pilakhar and Kashipur. Sewerage (I&D) Scheme (Dhela River) Phase-1 of District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand” under Namami Gange Programme at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 199.36 Crs. The project will ensure tapping of a total of 17 Nalas which will be intercepted and diverted to 9 STPs to be constructed under this project for a total treatment capacity of 30.30 MLD.

The project shall cover the 6 polluted river stretches in the Kumaon region. Out of the rest 3 polluted stretches, project of Ganga at Jagjeetpur, Haridwar has already been commissioned and on the remaining two, Namami Gange projects are already under execution.  With this project, all the polluted stretches in the state of Uttarakhand have been covered under pollution abatement projects.An important and progressive feature of the project is comprehensive sludge management arrangements and provision for co-treatment of septage in all these STPs.

The progress of action plan of states for polluted stretches are being reviewed by the central monitoring committee.  The Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, also recently reviewed these projects and the state government at Ministerial level also made a representation to him.

Sewerage Projects for Ganga Towns in Uttarakhand have already been completed in the state for pollution abatement along the Ganga under the Namami Gange program and the Mission has been focussing on rejuvenation of tributaries of the Ganga with priority on the polluted stretches.

As per the report of CPCB identifying polluted stretches of the rivers in the country, there were a total of 9 polluted stretches in Uttarakhand state and 6 of them were in district Udham Singh Nagar on various tributaries or small rivers such as Bhela, Dhela, Kichha, Nandor, Pilankha and Kosi and 02 (Two) stretches were on Rispana-Bindal and Suswa, which are being covered in the I&D Rispana_Bindal project which is under execution under the Namami Gange Programme, while 01(One) stretch was on main river Ganga (downstream Jagjeetpur) already covered by the Jagjeetpur STP project.

Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Executive Director (ED), Projects, Shri RozyAggrawal, ED (Finance), Shri DP Mathuria, ED (Technical), NMCG and Shri Uday Raj Singh, Project Director, State Mission for Clean Ganga were also present at the meeting.
