One Woman’s Journey: From a Freedom Fighter to a Beloved Guru

Celebrating the 100th Birthday of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

On March 21, 2023, hundreds of thousands of people around the world will celebrate the centennial of the birth of Nirmala Srivastava, better known to those who have been touched by her teachings as Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, the creator of Sahaja Yoga. The celebrations will take place both online and at Sahaja Yoga Centers and will include curated recordings of Shri Mataji’s talks, a musical performance, and a special opportunity to experience first-hand the meditation practice of self-realization.

Nirmala Srivastava lived an extraordinary life. She is one of the first, and still few, women gurus. Lovingly called Shri Mataji, “the respected Mother,” she dedicated herself to bringing spiritual awakening and inner peace to everyone she embraced during her many travels around the world, not once taking money for her teaching. Her belief that “you have to be your own guru” is fundamental to Sahaja Yoga, still taught free of charge in 95 countries.

Shri Mataji was born in India in 1923 to highly educated parents of royal lineage who were actively involved in the struggle for the country’s independence. As a child, she spent much time with Mahatma Gandhi, and later joined her parents in fighting for India’s freedom and was jailed for her participation. She then studied medicine, engaged in and founded many charities, and raised her own family with C.P. Srivastava who later went on to become the longest serving Secretary General of the UN International Maritime Organization.

All the while she continued to search for the best way to help. And in 1970, at the age of 47, she shared the way with people near and far — a spiritual meditation practice accessible to everyone: through awakening energy within, each person can be transformed, and with individual transformation comes a different world.

The rest of her life is best described by Shri Mataji herself: “My life now is dedicated to the well-being and benevolence of humanity, completely, entirely.”

I want to be like a dust particle which moves with the wind.
It goes everywhere.

Can go, sit on the head of a king,
or can go and fall at the feet of someone.
And it can go and sit on a little flower,
and it can go and sit everywhere.
But I want to be a particle of dust.
That is fragrant, that is nourishing, that is enlightening.

– Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, age seven,
as narrated by her in Dhulia, India, 1983

Sol’s Journey presents the pain and trauma of a mother who lost her child

Men are not just numbers, but dignified living individuals: Director Claudia Sainte-Luce

#IFFIWood, 26 November 2022

Men are not just numbers, but dignified living individuals. In the run up to amass money, a section of people forget this fact and indulge in heinous crimes like kidnapping and human trafficking.  The Mexican film Sol’s Journey being screened under International Panorama at the 53rd International Film festival of India in Goa presents this highly sensitive story of human trafficking in Mexico.

Addressing one of the ‘IFFI-Table Talks’ sessions today, Director of the film, Claudia Sainte-Luce said, the film highlights the rampant problem of human trafficking and its serious social implications. “In Mexico, a fraction of people don’t really value human beings. The issue has gone to such a level where the value of pet animals is much more than humans. Most of the people are really bothered about their missing pets which is evident from the increased number of posters about them, but nobody is really bothered about thousands of missing people, particularly kids”, she added.

Claudia further added, the film reflects the psychological trauma and pain through which a mother faces when her seven-year-old kid ‘Christian’ is kidnapped. “The film also reveals the mind-set of the society and lacunae in the judicial system.” she elaborated.

Interacting with media, the Director said that the film presents a human and personified vision of unbearable loss and struggle of a mother, who has lost her child.

Addressing the gathering, Producer Christian Kregel said, the team has made an effort to showcase the sensitive problem of child trafficking. “We have put our best effort, so that the film will make a difference and have a profound impact on the civilisation”, he added.

My Journey to Home Ownership

INKSTER, Mich.Sept. 20, 2022PRLogKristen Milefchik, Vaccine Advocate, of the Disability Rights Michigan, beams with joy after teaming up with 5th Third Bank to close on her first home.

I talked to other loan officers previously, but I wasn’t sure I was getting the best deal. When I went to the homeowner’s seminar, it was informative and talked a lot about the process, finding a home, the home inspection, and finding the real estate agent and getting the appraisal done, and how to do your budget to make sure you can afford the payments.

I just really thought that the presenter, Samual Blue, from 5th Third Bank, seemed like somebody would be a good person to work with on finding a home and getting a loan.  He seemed trustworthy and really interested in helping people.  That it was more than a job thing, it was more of a personal interest to him to help me.  He ended up being my loan officer.  He looked for down payment assistance programs that I would qualify for, and I also got a real estate agent.  It really takes a team to walk you through everything especially if you have a lot of questions, like I did.  He would always answer my questions and this team were advocates for me.  Sam Blue III, CRA Specialist | MLO, Samual.Blue@53.com, Fifth Third Bank  | 27255 Lahser  |  Southfiled, MI 48034, Direct: 248.353.4931 |  Fax: 844.795.8083 | NMLS #2060370

I wasn’t able to save up using a regular savings account because I have to put my savings into a Mi-Able account.  The MI-Able account for disabled people, is managed by 5th Third Bank so when it came time to write the check from closing so I just transferred the money from my MI-ABLE account (https://savewithable.com/mi/home.html) into my checking account.  I can use the Mi-Able account to save up for the expenses.  There are a lot of things that you have to work on before you go apply for a loan.  I had great credit but wanted to work on it.  I used the budget worksheet and called Sam numerous of times to ask him questions about the appraisal or he also was looking for any and all down payment assistance programs.  I did get a down payment assistance through 5th Third Bank.

I closed on the house in August of 2022 and I reached out to Samual Blue in April of 2022.  I received an automatic email of listings from my real estate agent because I could ask to see the house and it is a must faster process than going through online.  My real estate agent is Stacy Ramsay ABR, GRI, SFC, Real Estate Professional, RE/MAX Leading Edge, 734-323-9000, stacyramsay100@gmail.com.

Journey Health System CEO Guy Signor Discusses Affiliations at National Summit

On June 14, 2022, Journey Health System’s President & CEO, Guy Signor, presented during the Mergers, Acquisitions & Affiliations Summit at the 2022 OPEN MINDS Strategy & Innovation Institute in New Orleans, Louisiana. Signor’s presentation, titled “Affiliation Without A Merger — Perspectives From Executives Who Are Making It Work,” focused on Journey Health System’s affiliation structure and operations, as well as the benefits and challenges of the model.

OPEN MINDS is a national leader in market intelligence and management best practices focused on organizations serving consumers with chronic conditions and complex needs.

“One of the key elements of an affiliation is for member agencies to always be, first and foremost, a part of the communities they serve,” said Signor. “Journey offers its members the benefits of a larger size for negotiating insurance coverage, shared employee benefit costs, employee recruitment and retention strategies, and bulk purchasing power.”

Signor’s presentation looked at how the seven member organizations of Journey Health System interact and provide clinical services individually, while sharing support services collectively through the support corporation structure. He also discussed challenges to the model, including additional communication to help stakeholders at the local level understand the affiliation concept.

“Because affiliates retain so much local decision-making in terms of the provision of clinical services,” Signor said. “It can be easy for employees or Board Members, to forget they are still part of a larger health system.”

Journey Health System, headquartered in Bradford, Pennsylvania, is a 509(a)(3) not-for-profit supporting corporation that serves the following behavioral health affiliates that deliver care to 21 counties across Pennsylvania: Beacon Light Behavioral Health System, Beacon Light Adult Residential Services, Deerfield Behavioral Health, Dickinson Center, Forest-Warren Mental Wellness Association and Stairways Behavioral Health. The Journey Health System Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from each organization.

Journey Health System functions as a supporting organization that takes the burden of managing administrative functions away from the affiliated behavioral health organizations to allow them to focus on their mission of providing excellent clinical care. The results include better outcomes for clients, families and the communities served.

Being a part of Journey Health System allows for greater efficiency in the delivery of behavioral health services. The administrative fees, ideas and innovative best practices are shared among the group of affiliated companies. Millions of dollars are saved by each affiliate through bulk purchasing power, contract negotiations, and economy-of-scale advantages. The goal is to make each affiliate organization financially stronger and more sustainable for the foreseeable future.

The numbers of behavioral healthcare mergers, acquisitions and affiliations in the U.S. were at a record high in 2021. As the landscape continues to shift in the health and human services space, strong affiliation activity will continue for mental health organizations to position them for sustainability and growth.
