Promoting “driver first” car development and with a desire to provide attractive cars that customers participating in GT3, which is the pinnacle of customer motorsports, would choose, TGR has unveiled the GR GT3 Concept.

As was the case with the GR Yaris, by commercializing motorsports cars rather than simply adapting production vehicles for use in motorsports, TGR intends to use feedback and technologies refined through participation in various motorsports activities to develop both GT3 and mass-production cars and further promote making ever-better motorsports-bred cars.

GRMN Yaris

The development of the GRMN Yaris(2) began with the desire of Morizo, president Toyoda to “deliver cars to customers that evolve quickly and can be tailored to individuals like in the field of motorsports”. In addition to having refined the vehicle together with professional drivers as a fully tuned model of the GR Yaris, a new program is to be activated that will deliver to customers the type of daily vehicle evolution and driver-tailored customization that takes place in motorsports.

Japan – TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Premieres GRMN Yaris in Japan

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) premiered the “GRMN(1) Yaris”(2) at Tokyo Auto Salon 2022(3) on January 14. Sales of a 500-unit limited edition model are expected to begin at GR Garages nationwide around summer 2022. The GRMN Yaris is a fully tuned model of the GR Yaris that has gone through rigorous refinement with professional drivers. In addition, a new program is to be activated that will deliver to customers the type of daily vehicle evolution and driver-tailored customization that takes place in motorsports.

GRMN Yaris “Circuit package” / GRMN Yaris “Rally package”

Since its launch in September in 2020, the GR Yaris has been involved in various motorsports, such as the Super Taikyu Series(4) where President Toyoda got behind the wheel as Morizo and participated with ROOKIE Racing, and the Japanese Rally Championship(5), where it won the season championship.

The GR Yaris has been refined through “driver first” car development. Issues under extreme use conditions are identified through driver feedback and quickly resolved. Each car can be tailored to the driver to evolve into a safe and easy-to-drive vehicle.

The development of the GRMN Yaris began from Morizo’s desire to “deliver cars to customers that evolve quickly and can be tailored to individuals like in the field of motorsports.” Using lessons learned from motorsports competition, body rigidity has been enhanced, weight has been reduced by approximately 20 kg(6), overall width has been increased by 10 mm(6) for aerodynamic improvement, and vehicle height has been reduced by 10 mm(6) for a lower center of gravity. Also, it uses mechanical LSD, a close-ratio gear transmission, and a low final gear set, which has been improved through repeated “breaking and fixing”. The GR Yaris has evolved into a car that can be driven faster and with more peace of mind, with improved braking force, grip, cornering and following performance based on feedback from professional drivers.

Additionally, through the two Update Program and Personalization Program services, we will provide customers with “cars that evolve quickly and can be tailored to individuals” just like they are in motorsports. The GRMN Yaris offers the enjoyment of race-car like ongoing progress by achieving real-time car evolution for each race with the Update Program and driving experiences that that bring out performance through tailoring the car to the driver with the Personalization Program.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing to Reproduce and Sell Spare Parts for the AE86 Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) has announced that it is reproducing spare parts for the Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno (“AE86”)(1), and will start selling them both domestically and overseas on November 1, as part of the GR Heritage Parts Project. The project reproduces spare parts that have been discontinued and sells them as genuine parts, in order to support customers who wish to continue driving older vehicles that are full of memories and that they truly love. TGR has already reproduced spare parts for the A70 and A80 Supra, the Toyota 2000GT, and the 40 Series Land Cruiser; the AE86 is the next model in the project.
The Levin and Trueno are the sports models in the Corolla and Sprinter series. Only vehicles equipped with the 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve (4A-GEU) engine were given the “AE86” designation. Despite production having ceased more than 30 years ago, the AE86 continues to be extremely popular today, and is affectionately referred to in Japan as “hachi-roku,” meaning “eight-six.” The GR86 that was launched on October 28, 2021, and the 86 that went on sale in April 2012 both inherited the culture and tradition of the AE86.

From November 1, as and when preparations are complete, TGR will gradually make reproduced parts available for purchase at Toyota dealers, in the same way as normal genuine parts. However, the reproduced parts will only be produced for a limited period with the special cooperation of its suppliers; for this reason, after their production periods have ended, each reproduced part will only be available for purchase for as long as stocks last(2). Details such as part numbers and production periods will be published on the TGR website(3) from November 1, beginning with the parts that are ready for sale.

(1 ) Launch date May 1983
(2) Some parts excluded
(3) See here for details https://toyotagazooracing.com/gr/heritage/
(4) Parts set for sale from November 2021 onward; availability of reproduced parts varies according to region (the parts listed above are for Japan)
