Sun Chemical to Increase Prices on Inks, Coatings, Consumables and Adhesives in North America

PARSIPPANY, N.J., USA  – WEBWIRE

Sun Chemical will increase prices across its entire portfolio of packaging, commercial sheetfed and screen inks, coatings, consumables and adhesives in North America, effective immediately or as contracts allow.

The inflationary environment in North America has continued to impact the ink industry. Global geopolitical events have caused sustained pressure on logistics availability and have increased the costs to unprecedented levels. The constrained accessibility to labor in the market has driven significant wage inflation while contributing to inefficiencies at manufacturing facilities.

Key raw materials continue to experience scarcity while steel shortages drive costs for steel drums and other packaging components to historic highs. Sun Chemical continues to seek mitigation strategies to these cost increases, however, the magnitude and speed of increases require further action to offset impacts to the business.

“Our team continues to focus on ensuring a steady flow of our products to customers,” said Chris Parrilli, President of North American Inks. “Sun Chemical’s global reach has helped secure the raw materials needed to maintain production, however, the costs to secure those materials, manufacture our products, and deliver them to our customers has reached a level that requires Sun Chemical to take this price action. Global events will continue to influence our strategies and actions as we evaluate every opportunity to mitigate these inflationary events and deliver on the expectations our customers have for reliable supply of our products to their facilities.”

Sun Chemical will communicate specific increases directly with its customers. Customers with questions can reach out to their local Sun Chemical sales representative.

Hong Kong – Adjustment of chemical usage at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works

Adjustment of chemical usage at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works

**************************************************************************

The Drainage Services Department (DSD) announced today (March 27) that it will start tomorrow (March 28) to adjust the dosage of sodium hypochlorite solution (referred to as bleach), a chemical used to control bacterial levels in the disinfection system of the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on freight, the supply of chemicals to the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works has recently been unstable. Therefore, the DSD needs to adjust the amount of bleach used by the sewage treatment works in a timely manner so as to make more effective use of the existing stock to maintain the sewage treatment service.

As part of the epidemic control measures, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has closed all the gazetted beaches under its management, including those in Tsuen Wan. Therefore, the above temporary operational arrangements will not pose additional health risks to the public. Nevertheless, the DSD, together with the Environmental Protection Department, will strengthen the monitoring of the water quality of nearby waters.

Advantage of Chemical Free Farming

Organic farming is recognized as a sustainable agriculture practice promoting  use of   organic/ bio inputs that  takes care of environment (including soil, biodiversity)  and  human wellbeing. Organic farming practices such as crop rotations, inter-cropping, cover crops, use of organic fertilizers and minimum tillage improves biodiversity, nutrient content and water retention capacity of the soil. Organic agriculture also contributes to mitigating the greenhouse effect and global warming through its ability to sequester carbon in the soil (FAO).

Organic foods are safe and healthy and also boost immunity. With increased awareness on organic foods, people are inclining more towards organic products and it is fact that since the advent of COVID-19, the demand of organic product has increased in domestic market. The domestic market is growing @ 17% and the projected demand of organic food market is likely to cross Rs. 87.1 crore by 2021 from the Rs. 53.3 crore in 2016 (ASSOCHAM –EY). The export market size of organic products has increased by 42% during the current year (2021) compared to last year and the volume of organic products exported from April 2020 to February 2021 is 819250 MT with value of 948 million USD.

In view of increasing demand of organic food and realizing the advantage of chemical free farming for environment and human life, Government of India has been promoting Organic farming in the country through dedicated schemes namely Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) since 2015-16. Both the schemes stress on end to end support to organic farmers i.e. from production to certification and marketing.

This information was given in a written reply by the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar in Rajya Sabha today.
