MainConcept Licenses Several SDKs to Data Dock For Their New High Speed Transcoding Services

Aachen, Germany and Nagaoka, Japan – November 12, 2019 – MainConcept®, a leading provider of codec and streaming technology, today announced that they have licensed their industry-leading transcoding technology to Data Dock, Inc. Various MainConcept encoder packages are used within Data Dock”s new high speed transcoding service, allowing users to upload and process content into different formats for both the broadcast and OTT market.

Data Dock”s new platform enables users to upload media files of any format to be transcoded into the desired target format while achieving ultra-fast processing via multiple transcoding servers simultaneously running MainConcept”s Transcoding SDK. To achieve parallelization, the original stream is split into chunks with MainConcept libraries. All segments are transferred to the different transcoding servers. The nodes start transcoding the chunks before stitching them back together into a single stream.

The industry-leading MainConcept decoders for ProRes, AVC, HEVC, MPEG-2, etc. offer highest flexibility for ingesting the many different formats provided by users today. MainConcept enables the industry”s best performing video conversion in the highest quality by combining its Transcoding SDK with powerful H.264, H.265 and MPEG-4 Part 2 encoder packages. For distribution, MainConcept”s MPEG-DASH and HLS Multiplexing & Packaging SDKs generate adaptive bitrate compliant content for playback on almost any mobile and CE device available today.

“One of the most valuable benefits of using MainConcept SDKs is their easy integration and unrivaled robustness which makes them the preferred choice in any broadcast or OTT production workflow,” said Thomas Kramer, VP Product Management for MainConcept. “It”s fascinating how Data Dock integrated both Codec and Transcoding SDK libraries into their service to perform ultra-fast encoding performance. By splitting and distributing the streams to different nodes, they achieve 15x times faster transcoding compared to a single transcoding server.”

EGC: Chinese scooter not in breach of competitor”s intellectual property rights

A Chinese manufacturer of motor scooters is not in breach of an Italian competitor”s intellectual property rights. That was the verdict of the General Court of the European Union (EGC) in a ruling from September 24, 2019 (Az. T-219/18).

We at the commercial law firm MTR Rechtsanwälte https://www.mtrlegal.com/en.html note that in order for a registered design to be capable of being affording protection under the Community Design Regulation, it needs to be new and possess individual character.

In the dispute between the motor scooter manufacturers, the General Court found the Chinese model to have sufficient individual character, there being no risk of confusion with a well-known model from an Italian manufacturer. Consequently, the Chinese producer”s Community design remains registered.

The Chinese manufacturer had its scooter registered in 2010 as a Community design at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Its Italian rival brought an action against this and applied to have the design declared invalid, reasoning that the Chinese scooter lacked novelty and individual character because its profile and structural characteristics bore a strong resemblance to one of the Italian manufacturer”s models. It went on to note that the Italian motor scooter was protected as a creative work in Italy and France.

The EUIPO rejected the application for annulment, and this decision has since been upheld by the EGC. The Court held that the two motor scooters created a different overall impression. While the Chinese model was said to have a predominantly angular profile, the Italian scooter, on the other hand, was said to be characterized by curved lines. Consequently, the EGC found that the Chinese scooter possessed individual character. It ruled that the differences distinguishing the two scooters were numerous and of such significance that they would not escape the attention of informed consumers, and that there was thus no risk of confusion.

The EGC also confirmed the EUIPO”s view that the Chinese motor scooter did not infringe the Italian manufacturer”s copyrights in Italy and France. The Court noted that the copyright protection was for the “curved, feminine vintage character,” and that the more angular Chinese roller did not draw on this character.

For tight budgets – AXTON ATX coaxial speakers tested

In the entry-level price segment the ATC components from AXTON are among the best-selling branded speakers in Germany. But coaxial systems in the same series are also available to deliver a great sound for little money. The Car & HiFi trade magazine has thoroughly tested the ATX100 (10 cm), ATX130 (13 cm) and ATX165 (16.5 cm) in issue 5/2019. It was entirely impressed by the quality and performance of the new AXTON units: “Solid speaker with a good sound” is the verdict of the testers, awarding all three speakers the ‘Best Product’ accolade.

QUALITY FOR SMART BUYERS
That the prices of the ATX coaxials are keenly priced is beyond dispute for the well-respected testers, yet they are astonished by the quality of the new systems. “Overall the ATX do not give an impression of being cheap at all. They are properly made with cleanly deburred metal baskets. Beneath the centering spider there are even vent openings for cooling and to equalize the pressure.”

The tech journalists also highlight the very low installation depth of the chassis which ensures the new coaxials fit into a variety of openings.
With cleverly detailed solutions the ATX series is able to score further with the testers: “AXTON has allowed itself the luxury of placing the tweeters in the acoustic center of the ATX speaker.” According to Car & HiFi this is an arrangement that helps to avoid “time alignment differences between the two cones, which is an advantage for the sound.”

THE SOUND IS RIGHT
In the assessment of the tech journalists, in the test lab the ATX also perform “very respectably – and not only because of the price. There is no need at all for them to fear comparison, and overall they deliver good results.”
For example, in the opinion of the testers, the 13 cm ATX130 system “turns out to have really wonderfully low distortion. Most of the more expensive speakers could learn a lot from them.” And the sound performance of the coaxials was also convincing for the testers: “From a sound engineering point of view everything is in the green zone. (…) There is little to fault with any of the three ATX units. Drums sound decent, and the harmonics of natural instruments are easy to hear.”

SUMMARY
“Provided you don’t make unreasonable demands you will find the ATX units to be solid speakers with a good sound” conclude the tech journalists on AXTON’s “coaxials for smart buyers”. “You can’t really go wrong with them.”

Taiwan Delivers Intelligent Health Solution at MEDICA 2019

In cooperation with the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) of the Taiwanese Ministry of Economics and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), healthcare companies expand their presence on the EU market. Today at MEDICA, 20 companies present impressive innovations. World-class manufacturers showcase tomorrow”s medical solutions based on Taiwanese advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), 5G and Robotics.

Since the initial focus on innovative manufacturing, in-house ICT technologies have increased the efficiency and quality of production. Today, Taiwan has become the market leader with its concept of “Asian Silicon Valley”. The government wants to further strengthen Taiwan”s key position by independently developing medical products that meet the high demands of international markets at attractive conditions. Taiwanese companies, for example, are working on their own hardware and software for intelligent operating theaters, CI-supported clinical diagnostics and robotic physiotherapy. The future of healthcare relies on Big Data and its collection, transmission and evaluation. The development and implementation of 5G networks now enables the immediate transfer of large image and monitoring data sets to specialists at remote locations. This reduces the amount of travel required for patient care. The AI supports and sometimes completely confirms the rudimentary and expensive data evaluation tasks that are an increasingly important part of the diagnostic process. The enormous potential of AR/VR offers advantages in the training of medical staff, the performance of complicated operations and the treatment of mental disorders. Robotics, once operated exclusively by Taiwan”s leading manufacturers, is used for the benefit of patients and caregivers.

Double-digit export growth rates of 10.73 percent in 2018 underline the important role and prove the success of medical technology “Made in Taiwan”. Taiwan has successfully completed its transformation from a manufacturing industry to a leading developer of digital solutions and applications to drive the positive development of medical treatments. Even though Taiwanese technologies are already being used globally in everyday life and are already playing a key role in European healthcare systems, the Taiwan Excellence stand offers every visitor the opportunity to explore tomorrow”s technologies, interact with innovation leaders and learn about the direction of current developments.

Take advantage of this unique environment at today”s MEDICA to experience these leaps in 5G, AI, VR/AR and robotics. MEDICA is a first-class opportunity for Taiwanese companies to build relationships and nurture them throughout the year. Representatives of the innovative companies involved welcome the opportunity to get to know each other, exchange ideas and present their progress in Hall 17, Stand A40. A press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, 19 November, at 10:00 am in Hall 8b, room 814A will offer all interested parties detailed information on current developments, presented in a collegial environment for opinion leaders.

E-Marketing

Nowadays more and more things are handled online. For a business this means, you always have to keep your online presence up to date and think about what you can do, to offer your customer the easiest and most efficient ways to get what they want, says Rieta de Soet, CEO of Global Management Consultants AG in Switzerland.

E-marketing is a process of planning and executing the conception, distribution, promotion, and pricing of products and services online, to facilitate exchanges and satisfy customer demands. E-marketing does not only offer advantages for the customer, but for the company as well, says Rieta de Soet further. E-marketing provides customers with more convenience and more competitive prices, and it enables businesses to reduce operational costs. In this case you can really say time is money.

As businesses offer e-marketing, online shopping and appointment booking, customers can easily get market information and compare companies and services from home 24/7. They can read ads on the Web or from e-mail, get e-coupons, view pictures of goods, compare prices, and make purchases with a few clicks. At the same time, businesses can reduce costs in distribution and physical store space and thus pass the savings on to customers. It’s a win-win for everyone.

To make e-marketing effective and efficient, businesses should get an expert involved, so they can work on e-marketing strategies and how to monitor their clients behaviour.
