Les deux dernières centenaires, Zanghilan avec les frontières naturelles variées finalement a été formé comme une zone indépendante en août 1930 et en 1967 Zanghilan a reçu le statut de ville.
Le plus grand foret de platane d’Orient de l’Europe se trouve dans la région de Zanghilan. En 1974 dans le bassin du fleuve Araxe en 117 hectares, la réserve Bastichay a été créée. Le foret de platane d’Orient est situé au long de 12 km de la rivière. L’âge des arbres compte plus de 500 ans. Platane d’Orient a été inscrit dans le “Livre rouge”.
