With Missions Like Operation ‘Samudra Setu’ and ‘Mission Sagar’, the Indian Navy was a Key Instrument of India’s Covid Outreach: President Kovind

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind said that the Indian Navy has invested significant effort in meeting all regional commitments and furthering our diplomatic engagements with friends and partners in the Indo-Pacific. With missions like Operation ‘Samudra Setu’ and ‘Mission Sagar’, the Navy was a key instrument of India’s COVID outreach, delivering assistance and support to our maritime neighbours and partners in the Indian Ocean Region. The prompt and effective deployment of the Indian Navy in the time of crisis, has underscored India’s vision of being the ‘Preferred Security Partner’ and ‘First Responder’ in the Indian Ocean Region.

He was speaking on the occasion of presentation of President’s Colour to the Indian Naval Aviation today (September 6, 2021) at INS Hansa in Goa.

The President congratulated all officers and sailors of the Indian Naval Aviation for achieving this feat. He said that the Colour presented today was the recognition of its exceptional service rendered to the Nation, in peace and war.

The President noted that the Indian Naval Aviation has contributed through numerous Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations during which it has provided relief to fellow citizens like the recently conducted rescue operations off Mumbai during Cyclone Tauktae in May 2021. It has also provided crucial assistance to several neighbouring countries and nations in the Indian Ocean Region.

Speaking about the indigenisation programme of the Indian Navy, the President said that the Indian Navy has actively taken up indigenisation which is well reflected in its current and future acquisition plans. He noted that in pursuance of the Government of India’s vision of ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’, Indian Naval Aviation has also made steady progress in consonance with the Make in India drive. He said that with resounding progress in aviation technology, naval aircraft are being installed with modern, state of the art indigenous, weapons, sensors and Data Link suites. The recent inductions of Advanced Light Helicopters as well as Dornier and Chetak aircrafts manufactured indigenously by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited highlight our march towards ‘Atma-nirbharta’ in defence sector, he added.

Operation Food Search Endowment Campaign Exceeds $5 Million Goal

Operation Food Search (OFS) recently announced surpassing its original $5 million benchmark for the Sunny Day Endowment. To date the campaign has raised $5.6 million on behalf of its namesake, Sunny Schaefer, a hunger relief pioneer who served as OFS’s executive director for more than two decades. The initiative will continue to accept donations through the end of this year, which currently marks the 40th anniversary of OFS.

The Sunny Day Endowment was established to provide a reliable source of income in perpetuity, ensuring all children and families could lead healthier lives both now and for generations to come. Schaefer’s dream – to create a hunger-free region – focused on promoting equity and discovering solutions in response to the area’s food system challenges. The initiative was designed to further assist OFS’s work, which focuses on the root causes perpetuating the vicious cycle of malnutrition and hunger that adversely impact the St. Louis region.

For the past four decades, OFS has grown thanks to the community’s support. OFS once had a $400,000 operating budget and distributed 11 million pounds of food per year. Today it has a $37 million operating budget and distributes three million pounds of food per month.

“We have seen firsthand how the pandemic has highlighted the disparities among certain communities that are even more vulnerable during times of crisis,” said OFS President and CEO Kristen Wild. “This campaign – which allows us to embrace sustainability and ensure ongoing commitment to those who need it most – will raise the essential funds we need to bring about future change with our underlying systems.”

Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search (OFS) is a hunger relief organization located at 1644 Lotsie Blvd. that provides free food, nutrition education and innovative programs proven to reduce food insecurity. With a strategic focus aimed at ending childhood hunger, OFS empowers families and increases access to healthy and affordable food. The agency provides food and services to 200,000 individuals monthly – one-third of whom are children – through a network of 330 community partners in 27 Missouri and Illinois counties and the city of St. Louis. Operation Food Search Hires Fresh Rx Team Members

Operation Food Search (OFS), a non-profit hunger relief organization, recently hired Janae King as Fresh Rx Intake Specialist and Danielle Williams as Fresh Rx Food and Nutrition Specialist.

King will be responsible for establishing the intake policies and procedures for the Fresh Rx program. She also will assemble meal kits and create distribution schedules in order to deliver meals to participants. King has more than five years of nonprofit experience and, prior to joining OFS, she worked to support unhoused communities in the St. Louis area.

Williams will assist with Fresh Rx participant enrollment, which includes nutrition assessments and nutrition education. She will work with the Fresh Rx team and local partners to secure ingredients from local and sustainable sources. Williams, who is a registered and licensed dietitian, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition: Dietetics from Northwest Missouri State University.

OFS’s Fresh Rx: Nourishing Healthy Starts program helps low-income women by improving birth outcomes and empowering families to cultivate a healthy household. The innovative program—which eliminates food insecurity during pregnancy to produce better birth outcomes for moms and their babies—provides families with weekly meal kits in addition to cooking classes, nutrition resources and supportive services.

“Janae and Danielle make excellent additions to our innovative Fresh Rx program, which continues to grow due to the all-encompassing impact of food insecurity,” said OFS President and CEO Kristen Wild. “They possess both the experience and passion to assist those who need community resources like ours to create healthier lives for themselves and their families.”
