Canada – Seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Springhill Institution

Springhill, Nova Scotia – Correctional Service Canada

On October 12, 2021, correctional officers at Springhill Institution, a medium security federal institution, intercepted inmates who were in possession of contraband and unauthorized items. 

This seizure is the result of the combined efforts of correctional officers and security intelligence officers. The contraband and unauthorized items seized include:

·             one cell phone

·             two USB charging cables

·             two SIM cards

·             one SD card

·             18.68 grams of crystal methamphetamine

·             19.96 grams of MDMA

·             7.5 grams of THC, Shatter, crystal methamphetamine and Oxycodone mixtures

The total institutional value of this seizure is estimated at $48,000.

The police have been notified and the institution is investigating.

Canada – Seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Donnacona Institution

Donnacona, Quebec – Correctional Service Canada

Between September 2 and 14, 2021, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, several separate packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Donnacona Institution, a federal maximum-security institution.

The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 590.4 grams of hashish, 430 grams of cannabis wax, 192 grams of marijuana, 107.7 grams of tobacco, nine cellphones, one electronic tablet, several SIM cards, bottles of steroids, syringes and four knives. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $323 714.

Canada – Seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Collins Bay Institution 

Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada

On October 22, 2021, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, several packages containing contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Collins Bay Institution, a federal multi-level security institution.

The seized items included tobacco, drugs, cell phones and cell phone accessories. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $280,213.

Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec – Correctional Service Canada

On October 15, 2021, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, contraband and unauthorized items were seized at Archambault Institution, a federal multi-level security institution.

The contraband and unauthorized items seized included 206 grams of hashish, 300 grams of tobacco and three memory cards. The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $26,600.

The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $32,720.
