Cement and clinker trade prices remain stable in August

According to CW Research’s Cement and Clinker Price Assessments for Med Basin and Persian Gulf, FOB prices for cement and clinker have remained flat in August.

In the Mediterranean Basin region, over the period, FOB prices for prompt deliveries of bulk ordinary Portland cement recorded a slim decline, whereas clinker trade prices remained flat when compared to July.

As noted by Ana Almeida, CW Group’s analyst: “In the Med Basin region, cement producers saw a stable trade situation in August. However, prices seem to have contracted as the peak of summer is bringing a dull trade.”

Cement demand in Spain continues to show signs of consistency. In May, cement consumption recorded an almost double-digit increase on a yearly perspective, being the 15th consecutive positive month for the Spanish cement sector. Nevertheless, producers believe these levels are half of the ones registered during the economic pre-crisis.

PAKISTANI PRODUCERS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT EXPORTS

In August, in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea region, FOB prices for bulk ordinary Portland cement and for prompt deliveries of bulk ordinary grade clinker remained unchanged.

Ana Almeida, analyst with CW Group, notes: “In August, in the Persian Gulf Arabian Sea, cement and clinker prices are contracting further, as the peak of summer is on. However, some key players have been showing improvements in both the sea and road trades.”

Pakistani cement suppliers are continuing to see positive results this summer. In July, the country’s cement market was able to increase its exports by sea by over 100 percent, when compared to last year. However, the shipments to India and Afghanistan, two usual importers of Pakistani cement, registered a sharp plunge during the same period.

Exporters in the country are optimistic with the sustained growth observed in the last months, as a consequence of the government’s new economic activities that are supporting cement demand.

MainConcept Enables Canon XF-HEVC Workflows

Aachen, Germany – September 14, 2018 – MainConcept, a leading provider of video codec technology, today announced that they have added support for ingesting HEVC 4:2:2 files generated by the brand-new Canon XF 705 camera to their HEVC/H.265 Decoder SDK.
With the XF 705 camera, introduced at today’s IBC in Amsterdam, Canon is first to leverage the higher compression efficiency of HEVC/H.265 to store data more efficiently and allow simultaneous recording of HDR and SDR without doubling storage space requirements. Canon”s decision to package 4:2:2 10-bit HEVC/H.265 into an MXF container allows existing workflows to support the same metadata as with current, AVC/H.264-based broadcast formats.
MainConcept has worked closely with Canon to ensure interoperability and reliable ingest of files recorded by Canon XF-HEVC capable cameras. Editing and Media Asset Management applications can easily ingest or playback the new format natively by integrating MainConcept HEVC/H.265 Decoder SDK version 10 which is being released at IBC 2018. The SDK includes components for video and audio decoding as well as MXF demultiplexing.

MainConcept Announces Multi-Platform ProRes Decoding SDK

Aachen, Germany – September 14, 2018 – MainConcept, a leading provider of video codec technology, today announced the release of a multi-platform SDK enabling application developers to ingest Apple ProRes video from MOV and MXF containers in any workflow.
Apple ProRes has become one of the most frequently used intermediate formats in media production. The ProRes bitstream syntax was published as SMPTE RDD-36 in 2015. MainConcept is the first company to introduce a professional SDK for licensing, that allows ingest and real-time playback of ProRes content on all major platforms.
While ProRes video is originally stored in QuickTime (MOV) containers, SMPTE recently published RDD-44 which allows ProRes to be carried in MXF, making it perfectly suited for professional production workflows. The MainConcept ProRes Decoder SDK supports ingesting from both container formats for use in transcoding, editing and playback applications. The SDK is available for Windows, macOS and Linux platforms.
