CEC Shri Rajiv Kumar meets bereaved family of Shri Shyam Saran Negi at Kalpa Kinnaur, expresses condolences


CEC Shri Rajiv Kumar expressed his deep condolences on the demise of Shri Shyam Saran Negi, Himachal’s pride and Independent India’s first voter. In a rare gesture and mark of gratitude for Shri Negi’s democratic values, ethos and contribution, Shri Rajiv Kumar reached Kalpa, native village of Shri Negi in Kinnaur district today to meet the bereaved family in person and paid floral tributes.





While paying homage to Negi’s exemplary spirit & faith in democracy Shri Kumar said that “ श्री नेगी 70 सालों से ऊपर लगातार मतदान करते रहे और जाते जाते भी postal ballot द्वारा 2 नवंबर को अपना फर्ज अदा कर गए। श्री नेगी की यह कर्तव्य निष्ठा, युवा मतदाताओं के लिए एक मिसाल होनी चाहिए। दिवंगत आत्मा के लिए सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि तभी होगी जब हम सब देशवासी मतदान में बढ़ चढ़ कर हिस्सा लें और लोकतंत्र की नींव को और सुदृढ़ करें।” CEC urged all the voters in Himachal Pradesh to cast their vote on 12th Nov, 2022 in the upcoming Assembly Election, as a real tribute to Shri Shyam Saran Negi.







CEC Shri Kumar also conveyed his gratitude to over 1.8 crore 80+ voters and 2.5 lakh 100+ centenarian voters across the country for their contribution in laying the foundation of a strong democracy. उन्होंने कहाँ कि सम्मानित बुजर्गों के लोकतंत्र में निरंतर भागीदारी से निष्पक्ष, पारदर्शी, समावेशी और सुगम चुनाव कराते रहने की जिम्मेदारी का अहसास और बढ़ जाता है”|


During CECs conversation with family members, Shri Negi’s son recalled a gratitude letter by CEC Shri Rajiv Kumar to Shri Shyam Saran Negi. He informed that Shri Negi felt jovial reading the letter and he will encourage youngsters in the family to cast their vote for active participation in the festival of democracy. It may be recalled that recently on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, CEC had written a gratitude letter to all centenarian voters across the country.





Shri Shyam Saran Negi passed away early this morning today at the age of 106 years at his native place in Kalpa, Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. The Election Commission of India deeply mourns the demise of Shri Shyam Saran Negi and is grateful for his service towards the nation.

Dr. Rajendra Kumar takes over the charge of Director General, ESIC





Dr. Rajendra Kumar, a senior IAS officer from Tamil Nadu Cadre (Batch : 1992) took over the charge of Director General of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India at its Headquarters on 04.10.2022 in New Delhi. Before assuming the charge of Director General, ESIC, Dr. Rajendra Kumar, IAS has served as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeiTY) in the Government of India.


Upon taking charge he chaired a meeting of the senior officers and said that ESIC should look after the workers well and provide the best quality services to them so as to make a positive impact on the society.  He stressed upon improving its service delivery mechanism, by augmenting technology and ensuring adequate presence across the country.


Dr Rajendra Kumar has got vast experience of governance and management of District & State level Organisations. He has also served as the Principal Secretary in the Departments of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Youth Welfare & Sports Development in the Government of Tamil Nadu.


Dr. Rajendra Kumar, has a Ph. D in International Economic Development and Regional Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, an    M. Tech in Management and Systems from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a B.tech in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Besides having an impressive and stupendous academic background, he is also a prolific writer having published a book, several research papers in international journals and articles on technology and policy in leading newspapers and magazines to his credit.

Shri Vijoy Kumar Singh assumed charge as Secretary, Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence on September 19, 2022. Shri Singh is a 1990-batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre, who has an experience of more than 32 years in administration.







Shri Vijoy Kumar Singh recently served as Special Secretary in Ministry of Textiles. Prior to this appointment there, he had served as Joint Secretary in Department of Personnel & Training. He had extensive interactions with serving as well as retired Armed Forces personnel during his career in Punjab.

Dr. Virendra Kumar to inaugurate the services of CRC- Shillong for skill development, rehabilitation and empowerment of the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on 17 May 2022


Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr.Virendra Kumar will inaugurate the services of Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) at Shillong, Meghalaya on 17 May 2022, tomorrow.


Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment Km.Pratima Bhoumik along with Shri Kyrmen Shylla, Minister of Social Welfare, Govt. of Meghalaya, ShriVincent H Pala, M.P., Meghalaya, Smt.Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong will be present on the occasion.


Smt. Anjali Bhawra (IAS), Secretary, DEPwD, MSJ&E, GOI,  Smt.S.B.Marak (MCS) Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Govt.of Meghalaya, Shri Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Meghalaya, Shri Nachiketa Rout, Director, NIEPMD, Chennai, Dr.Roshan Bijlee, Director & Nodal Officer of CRC(Kozhikode & Shillong) and other senior officerswill also attend the function.


CRC- Shillong is situated around 10 acres of land given by Govt. of Meghalayaat Monfort Building, Dhankheti, Shillong and functioning under the administrative control of National Institute for Empowerment of Person with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai, under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), Govt. of India with an aim of creating resources and services required for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the State of Meghalaya.


The Government of India has set up CRCs in different parts of India, especially in the North Eastern States. The CRC at Shillong is the 20th such institution and has become functional since July 19th 2021.


CRC-Shillong provides the clinical services to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) like Special Education, Physiotherapy, Vocational Rehabilitation, Clinical Psychology, Orientation and Mobility training, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Hearing Services, Prosthetic & Orthotic services, Sensory Integration therapy, Guidance & Counseling and community-based rehabilitation services in Meghalaya.


CRC Shillong also provides Aids & Appliances to the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) under ADIP Scheme by organizing ADIP assessment and distribution camp.


Apart from providing clinical services, this organization is involved in creating awareness, developing resource materials, conducting outreach programs and implementing schemes of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI.

Shri Justice Alok Kumar Verma elevated to be Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court

The President of India, in exercise of the power conferred by clause (l) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, appointed Shri Justice Alok Kumar Verma, Additional Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to be a Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. A notification in this regard was issued by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice today.

Shri Justice Alok Kumar Verma, B.A., LL.B., joined the Judicial Service on 08.10.1990. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of Uttarakhand High Court on 27.05.2019 for a period of 2 years.
