When powerhouse litigation firm, Sommers Schwartz approached Custom Legal Marketing with the idea of creating a sports themed commercial, the creative team at CLM jumped into action. The first episode features the firm’s personal injury lawyers fighting for their clients with the same focused team work as a champion football team.
The “Your Future. Our Fight. Sommers Schwartz” football commercial was released online during the weekend of Super Bowl LVI. A basketball themed commercial has been added to the series since then, and new concepts are currently in the works.
The commercial begins with the question, “What does it take to be a champion year after year in the field of play and in the courtroom?” The Michigan-based law firm undoubtedly knows the answer as their team of attorneys have recovered over $1 billion for their clients.
The concept originated from attorney, Rob Sickels of Sommers Schwartz who appears in the commercial during a scene where he’s talking to the judge. For the onsite video shoot, CLM teamed up with M-1 Studios of Ferndale, Michigan. This isn’t the first time CLM as worked with M-1 Studios on an award-winning project. The Sommers Schwartz website by Custom Legal Marketing, which features videos produced by M-1, was a 2021 Webby Honoree and a winner of a 2022 Vega Award.
Custom Legal Marketing’s Media Designer, Jessylyn Los Banos, served as Producer & Editor for the project.
“I’m incredibly honored that we were awarded a Viddy. We took a different approach from traditional attorney commercials and went for a story-driven concept that I think encapsulates the values and mission of our client very well,” said Los Banos.
The Viddy Awards is one of the most coveted awards in the video industry. Since 1994, thousands of production and communication professionals have entered their best and most creative work. The goal of the Viddy Awards is to identify and recognize the video artisans who excel in the scope of their own environment.
Custom Legal Marketing is a law firm SEO and digital law firm marketing company that commits to just one law firm in each market and has been helping lawyers excel with digital marketing since 2005. The company completed the construction of its new CLM Studio in San Francisco, California this year as part of a broader expansion.
Sommers Schwartz’s areas of practice include, personal injury, medical malpractice, commercial and business law, employment disputes, unpaid wages and overtime, and consumer protection. The law firm serves clients across the country from its offices in Michigan and California.

Legal and financial experts review and discuss National Security Law at legal forum (with photos)
The National Security Law (NSL) Legal Forum under the theme “Thrive with Security”, organised by the Department of Justice (DoJ), was held today (May 28) to commemorate the second anniversary of the Decision of the National People’s Congress (NPC) on Establishing and Improving the Legal System and Enforcement Mechanisms for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to Safeguard National Security (“528 Decision”). Senior government officials, world-renowned legal and financial experts and academics were invited to share their insights on the NSL and national security issues to enhance the public’s understanding of the concept of national security.
The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam; Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Mr Wang Linggui; and Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR Mr Luo Yonggang delivered their welcome remarks at the opening ceremony.
Deputy Director of the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the NPC Mr Zhang Yong; the Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zheng Yanxiong; the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR, Mr Liu Guangyuan; former Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Mr Deng Zhonghua; and the Secretary for Justice, Ms Teresa Cheng, SC, delivered their keynote speeches at the forum, speaking on the legal basis and significance of the “528 Decision”, reviewing the development of the legal system in safeguarding national security in the HKSAR after the enactment and implementation of the NSL, as well as exploring the way forward for further establishment and improvement of the legal system in safeguarding national security in the HKSAR.
Ms Cheng highlighted that national security is the cornerstone for promoting national prosperity and strength, assuring a good life for the people, maintaining social harmony and stability, and realising “Security brings Prosperity” and “Thrive with Security”. She said that the NSL has brought Hong Kong back on track and created a favourable environment for the development of international businesses, trade and finance, legal services, etc.
At the three panel sessions, legal and financial experts and academics as well as government officials had in-depth discussions on the comparative study of cases under the NSL and national security cases in foreign jurisdictions, frontier issues in safeguarding national security, and refining the legal framework of the HKSAR on safeguarding national security, sharing their invaluable views and insights on the subjects.
This is the second NSL legal forum organised by the DoJ, following the success of the one entitled “Security Brings Prosperity” held last year.

The Web Marketing Association is looking for the best legal websites in the world as part of their 26th annual international WebAward Competition for Web site development at www.webaward.org. The WebAwards is the standards-defining competition that sets benchmarks for 96 industries, including legal websites, based on the seven criteria of a successful web site. The deadline for legal websites to enter to be judged is May 31, 2022.
“The legal industry is very competitive when it comes to Web development and companies can benefit from the independent evaluation of their online efforts,” said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association. “Not surprisingly, legal websites are not known for taking risks – it’s the way their industry is. They score well in terms of ease of use, design and content, but past judges have noted they would like to see more use of technology and innovation.”
Web sites are judged on seven criteria including design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copy writing and ease of use. Each WebAward entry in the legal category is judged against other legal entries and then against an overall standard of excellence.
All legal entrants benefit from receiving valuable feedback in terms of their specific scores compared against the average scores for their industry. They also may receive specific comments from the WebAward’s professional judging panel on their Web site development efforts.
Winners of a WebAward in the legal category will also receive:
· Handsome statue or certificate of achievement
· Increased visibility for their company
· Marketing opportunity to promote the company website to the media
· Links to your site from the highly ranked WebAward site to help SEO
· Admiration of peers, friends and co-workers
