To promote the message of regular exercising for health, the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, today (August 6) attended the Sport For All Day 2023 held by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) at the Sham Shui Po Sports Centre and took part in sports fun games.
The focal activity of the Sport For All Day this year is “fitness exercise for wellness”. The LCSD organised a series of physical fitness demonstrations and play-in sessions for the public’s participation to encourage them to pursue a healthy body and mind through regular physical exercise.
Accompanying Mr Lee to join the event were the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Vincent Liu; the Chairman of the Sham Shui Po District Council, Mr Chum Tak-shing; the Chairman of the Community Sports Committee (CSC), Professor Patrick Yung; the Vice-Chairman of the CSC, Mr Eric Fok; the District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Paul Wong; swimming athlete Tam Hoi-lam and wushu athlete Lau Tsz-hong.
During the event, guests watched a demonstration of interval training and viewed fun games such as surfset, electronic cardio cage, electronic battling rope, speed stacks and sport climbing. They also had a taste of fencing. While the 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou between September 23 and October 8, the LCSD appealed to members of the public to enjoy the Games, as well as cheering for and supporting Hong Kong athletes.
At the same time, to echo the Sport For All Day, 16 Principal Officials also joined the recreation and sports activities held at sports centres in various districts, including the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki; the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan; the Deputy Secretary for Justice, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai; the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui; the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung; the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan; the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau; the Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau; the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung; the Secretary for Housing, Ms Winnie Ho; the Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin; the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong; the Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak; the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun; and the Acting Secretary for Development, Mr David Lam.
This year, the slogan of the Sport For All Day 2023 remained to be “Stay Active, Healthy and Happy!”. Free recreation and sports programmes were held at designated sports centres in 18 districts and most leisure facilities under the purview of the LCSD were open for free use. A live webcast of sports demonstrations was also arranged via the event’s dedicated website and the “LCSD Plusss” Facebook page to encourage people of all ages and abilities to engage in regular sports and physical activities, so as to continuously build a “Sport for All” culture in the community.
The Sport For All Day 2023 is co-organised by the Department of Health; the Sports Medicine Team of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China; and the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Physically Disabled.

We were also delighted to see Emma named the LMAs WSL Manager of the Year and Sam Kerr winning the FWA Womens Footballer of the Year award back-to-back. For all the challenges of the past year, we are optimistic about the future. We are looking forward to welcoming Mauricio Pochettino as the head coach of our mens team in July.We are building a modern scouting, talent identification, and recruiting infrastructure within our sporting department, led by Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, which will help us to identify and transform the squad around elite talent, a squad capable of consistently competing to win the Premier League, raise domestic cups and compete and win at the highest level in European football. We have also appointed Chris Jurasek as CEO to drive our business forward off the pitch, which in turn will make us more sustainable on the pitch. The success we are aiming for is only possible with our supporters behind us. We are proud of the creation of our Fan Advisory Board, which will meet for the first time over this summer, and we are confident its new members will ensure you are at the heart of decision making at our club. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi shared his message at the inauguration of the Khelo India University Games today. The games were declared open by the Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu in Bengaluru today. Governor of Karnataka Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Chief Minister Shri Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of State, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Nisith Pramanik were among those present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister said that Bengaluru symbolizes the youthful enthusiasm of the country and is pride of the professionals. He said that it is significant that a confluence of startups and sports is happening here. “Holding of the Khelo India University Games in Bengaluru will add to the energy of this beautiful city.”, he said. The Prime Minister saluted the resolve of the organizers as organization of the Games amidst the challenges of the pandemic epitomizes the determination and passion. This youthful passion is driving India in every field with new momentum, the Prime Minister added.
The Prime Minister underlined the importance of team spirit as the first mantra of success. “This team spirit we get to learn from sports. The Prime Minister told the athletes that they are the youth of New India and they are also the flag bearers of Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat. The Youthful thinking and approach is shaping the country’s policies today. The Prime Minister said that today’s youth has made fitness a mantra of country’s progress. Many initiatives are freeing the sports from the shackles of old mode of thinking. Measures like emphasis on sports in the new education policy, modern infrastructure for sports, transparent selection process or increasing use of modern technology in sports are fast becoming the identity of New India, hopes and aspirations of its youth, and foundation of decisions of New India. “Now new Sports Science Centers are being established in the country. Dedicated sports universities are coming up. This is for your convenience and to fulfill your dreams” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister reiterated the link between sports power and power of the country as recognition in sports adds to the recognition for the country. He recalled his meeting with Tokyo Olympics contingent and remembered the glow and satisfaction of doing something for the country on the faces of the athletes. The Prime Minister exhorted the players to play for the country while participating in the Games.
