BMM Brings Integrity to Blockchain

The Government Blockchain Association (GBA) published the Blockchain Maturity Model (BMM) (https://gbaglobal.org/blockchain-maturity-model/). This model was developed over the past two years to give acquisition professionals the tools they need to evaluate blockchain solutions when making purchasing decisions. It also provides a standard to distinguish legitimate blockchain solutions from hype-filled promises. Without this knowledge or framework, acquisition professionals will always choose traditional government contracting partners. The lesser-known, innovative solutions rarely get selected, stifling competition and progress.
The model describes eleven characteristics that should be considered in evaluating any blockchain solution. They are:
– Distribution
– Governance
– Identity Management
– Interoperability
– Performance
– Privacy
– Reliability
– Resilience (Fault Tolerance)
– Security
– Infrastructure Sustainability
– Synchronization

Get BMM Training

The first qualified GBA assessor to lead a BMM team is Mr. Dino Cataldo DELL’ACCIO (www.unjspf.org/person/dino-cataldo-dellaccio/), Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). He has developed a blockchain solution for the United Nations and was one of the authors of the BMM. The BMM Team will begin formally training new BMM assessors at the GBA Blockchain & Sustainable Economic Growth Conference (https://gbaglobal.org/2022-bcseg-schedule/) on May 25-27 in Washington, DC. Other events are posted on the BMM Events Calendar (https://gbaglobal.org/events/category/bmm/).

“Many vendors need ways to demonstrate that their solutions are reliable and can be trusted.
They operate in environments lacking integrity and plagued by broken promises, hype, and corruption. The BMM is a way that vendors can differentiate their reliable solutions from those of snake oil salesmen,” says Gerard Dache, CEO, GBA.

BMM Assessments Being Schedule Now

The first organization that has registered for a BMM assessment is Axes, a blockchain-based information management platform that licenses actionable intelligence and applications to the global gaming & amusement industry.

Del Amo Construction Brings New Life to K-12 Educational Spaces Across Southern California

LOS ANGELESOct. 26, 2021PRLog — Del Amo Construction is helping schools throughout the Southern California region welcome students back to campus with new and upgraded facilities that elevate the educational experience. Over the last year, the award-winning, privately owned construction company has been involved in a number of projects that have transformed private and charter institutions alike.

From new facilities and amenities that improve student life, to upgrades supportive of enhanced learning, the Del Amo Construction team creates and transforms exciting spaces for a wide variety of students and needs.

“We are proud to be a part of supporting the students and faculty entering the new school year as they continue to navigate the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Habiba Manjurr, project manager at Del Amo Construction.

In recent months, Del Amo Construction has provided a variety of pre-construction, construction and renovation services on behalf of several Southern California schools, resulting in essential educational spaces such as classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, gymnasiums, a performing arts center, a dormitory, cafeterias and kitchens for students, faculty and staff. Select projects include:

●      Marlborough School (https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https…), Los Angeles — Del Amo Construction’s three-part project at the independent college-preparatory secondary school for girls comprises three distinct building areas which require extensive renovations to an existing facility. Area 1 includes the renovation of a basement-level locker room along with office and classroom facilities within the existing gymnasium building, totaling approximately 6,100 square feet. Area 2 comprises a complete overhaul of a 540-seat performing arts complex which includes a new 1,500-square-foot orchestra pit lift, telescoping bleachers, a retractable wall system and state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment. Area 3 includes the refurbishment of an existing outdoor plaza space and landscaping totaling approximately 7,800 square feet.

●      Oakwood School (https://www.oakwoodschool.org/), North Hollywood — In late 2020, Del Amo Construction began the conversion of an existing kitchen and classroom on the K-12 co-educational independent day school campus into a commercial kitchen and servery totaling approximately 1,800 square feet. The project also included the installation of an exterior cooler/freezer building, restroom upgrades to meet ADA compliance as well as the addition of a new fire sprinkler and alarm system to seven classrooms, three offices, the multi-purpose room and remaining areas of the building. In the multi-purpose room specifically, the ceiling was also replaced with new insulation, and a new acoustical ceiling was installed along with new doors and windows. The entire project was completed in August 2021.

●      Mirman School (https://mirman.org/), Los Angeles — In April 2021, the Del Amo Construction project team installed six temporary, DSA-approved prefabricated modular classroom units on the school’s soccer field along with associated prefabricated ramps and landings as well as related site work. In addition, a prefabricated office unit was installed on an existing parking lot. The modular units are intended to help with the distancing of K-8 students at the school for gifted children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Del Amo Construction also recently built utility pathways for a new Learning Center building, which is part of a campus-wide master plan.

●      The Webb Schools (https://www.webb.org/), Claremont — Del Amo Construction restored the boarding and day school’s nearly 13,000-square-foot Appleby Dormitory during the spring of 2021. The dormitory was returned to its original single-occupant layout by infilling door openings that were created between adjoining rooms in a previous remodel. The team also completed a number of other interior upgrades, including installing new HVAC and sprinkler systems and adding various tenant improvements such as new lighting fixtures and restroom finishes.

●      Vista Heritage Global Academy (https://www.vistaheritagems.org/), Santa Ana — This spring, Del Amo Construction completed the renovation of three of the charter middle school’s existing flexible, multi-purpose bays, two of which were previously unoccupied. All three bays received new roofing and MEP’s, plus a path for pedestrian travel and parking. The project also included seismic upgrades to the campus as well as the addition of a new gym, cafeteria and classrooms. The team also installed a new exterior façade for the campus.

●      Vaughn Middle School for International Studies & Technology (https://mit.myvaughncharter.com/), San Fernando — Late last year, the Del Amo Construction team completed a new ground-up multi-story classroom building intended to serve the student population of one of five campuses associated with the first conversion charter school in the nation. The new, three-story Type II building houses 21 regular classrooms, a music room and a multi-purpose room.

Over the last 50 years, Del Amo Construction has built an extensive portfolio of projects which serve K-12 students in meaningful ways. More details regarding the company’s experience with K-12 educational spaces and related services are available in the company’s portfolio (https://www.delamoconstruction.com/portfolio).

Troy Aikman Brings Final Smile to Dying Young Fan

25-year-old Mark Melchiore from Philadelphia, PA shared a final smile with Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and FOX Sports lead NFL game analyst, Troy Aikman, a man Mark had long admired.

After Mark had been diagnosed with Glioblastoma and given a life expectancy of just one month, Mark’s family reached out to Dream Foundation, the only national dream-granting organization for terminally-ill adults. Mark’s final Dream was to meet Troy Aikman.

Mark and his sister, Amanda, grew up Dallas Cowboys fans thanks to their grandmother and father’s undying love for the team. Amanda says that their father was a super fan and loved Troy Aikman the most, following his career from the very beginning. He never missed an opportunity to educate his children about the sport he loved so dearly and the athletes who played it brilliantly. Mark started playing football at just 5-years-old, loved it immediately, and continued to play through high school.

When Mark learned that he was facing the end of his life, he only had one Dream, to meet Troy Aikman and connect with a player he never had an opportunity to see play in person.

With little time left, Dream Foundation called its Ambassador of Sports, five-time NBA All-Star and NASCAR team owner, Brad Daugherty, to reach out to his friend, Troy.

Troy was honored and delighted to speak with Mark and Amanda. The pandemic made an in-person meeting difficult, so the three connected via Zoom. Troy was compassionate, attentive, funny and kind. Mark, unable to speak or move much, expressed happiness and joy. Mark mustered every bit of energy he had left to give Troy a thumbs up, show him his Cowboys hat, and even smile.

Just three days after this Dream come true, Mark died. Amanda wrote to Dream Foundation, “I just wanted to thank you guys again so much for what you did. Mark passed away. He [Troy] gave Mark his last excitement. It was the first time I’ve seen him smile in a while, and the last.”

About Dream Foundation:

Dream Foundation, the only national dream-granting organization for terminally-ill adults, fulfills final Dreams that provide inspiration, comfort and closure at the end of life. With the support of a nationwide network of volunteers, hospices, health care organizations and committed donors, Dream Foundation has given life to more than 32,000 final Dreams since being founded in 1994. Dream Foundation receives no state or federal funding – we rely solely on private donations. To support our mission, please visit DreamFoundation.org/donate.
