 The Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth (HACE) is proud to congratulate Deputy Executive Director Cathy Hart for receiving a 2023 NJBIZ ICON Award. This prestigious award recognizes the lifetime career achievements of business leaders across the State of New Jersey. Honorees will be featured at a ceremony on August 8 at The DoubleTree by Hilton in Somerset, New Jersey.

Cathy Hart has demonstrated steadfast loyalty in serving the Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth for almost 40 years. She fosters HACE’s mission to work diligently to meet housing needs and improve the quality of life for all of the residents it serves. Hart continues to further the goals of the urban housing authority that has successfully demonstrated its capacity to deliver a broad range of social, economic, educational, and redevelopment services. The housing authority’s ability to accomplish this is only further enhanced by partnerships Hart has helped establish within the city, as well as with county and state agencies. Cathy is consistently at the forefront of all of the innovative initiatives being offered to residents at the housing authority. It is due to Cathy Hart’s unmatched commitment to residents’ care and quality of life that she was selected to receive this NJBIZ ICON award.

Deputy Commissioner of Police encourages police officers to maintain Hong Kong’s stability and safeguard national security (with photos)

     The Deputy Commissioner (National Security), Ms Lau Chi-wai inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer at the Hong Kong Police College today (April 22). She encouraged the graduates to realise that the Force has developed from a disciplinary force maintaining law and order into a staunch and reliable law enforcement force safeguarding national security and ensuring Hong Kong’s stability.
      
     In her speech, Ms Lau reminded the graduates that peaceful days cannot be taken for granted. The riots in 2019 not only undermined the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong since its return to the Motherland, but also seriously endangered national security. She hoped the graduates would keep in mind that apart from maintaining the stability of Hong Kong, safeguarding the long-term stability of the country is the top priority of the work of the Force.
      
     She pointed out that the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law has played a significant role in maintaining social stability, and the National Security Department has successfully cracked down on many activities that seriously endanger national security through large-scale law enforcement operations. However, the national security situation facing Hong Kong remains precarious, she said, adding that those against the Central Authorities continue to use “soft resistance” means to disseminate seditious messages. She reminded the graduates that the risk of domestic terrorism cannot be ignored, and the chaotic situation similar to the riots in 2019 may appear again as external forces will do all they can to suppress our country and the HKSAR Government.
      
     Quoting the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China delivered by President Xi Jinping, Ms Lau stressed that the graduates must stay alert to threats and dangers, adopt bottom-line thinking and reinforce risk awareness. She hoped the graduates would maintain a sense of crisis in daily work, even though the society is relatively peaceful recently.

     While saying that a drop of water may be insignificant, Ms Lau opined that countless water droplets can converge into rivers and seas. She believed that the graduates could form a powerful force to safeguard national security as long as they unite as one and perform their respective duties. They can also make a contribution to the steady development of the country in the new era and to ensure the stability of people’s livelihood.
      
     Lastly, Ms Lau mentioned that she will end her 38-year police career next week. She thanked the Force for its cultivation and trust in her, as well as her colleagues for their support and love. She said that it is her lifelong honour to grow up with the Police Force.
      
     A total of 33 probationary inspectors and 123 recruit police constables passed out today.

     The Deputy Financial Secretary, Mr Michael Wong, today (July 3) attended the kick-off ceremony of Sham Shui Po district in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR cum Sham Shui Po Festival 2022.



     Officiating at the ceremony, Mr Wong, quoted the “four proposals” put forward by President Xi Jinping, hoping that the officials of this new term of government and citizens will jointly maintain harmony and stability. He also mentioned President Xi’s “four musts”, emphasising that the “one country, two systems” policy should be fully implemented.



     He said that the government needs every citizen to work together, adding that Hong Kong is a place full of opportunities. Hong Kong will have a very bright future in the next 25 years.



     He thanked the Legislative Council members attending the event for liaising closely with the community on the urban redevelopment plan of Sham Shui Po in recent years in order to timely implement policies that are close to people’s livelihood. He hoped that the government would be able to map out policies that would benefit the citizens in Sham Shui Po.

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, hosted a bilateral meeting in Ottawa with the Latvian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Artis Pabriks.

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Canada’s ironclad commitment to NATO and our allies, including Latvia, where 540 Canadian Armed Forces personnel are leading a NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group. Canada recently renewed Operation REASSRUANCE a year ahead of schedule.

Canada and Latvia are united in their condemnation of Vladimir Putin’s barbaric and ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Russia’s actions are a violation of international law and of the rules-based international order. The two Deputy Prime Ministers underscored the remarkable resilience and bravery of the people of Ukraine, who have Canada’s full support.

The Deputy Prime Minister and her Latvian counterpart pledged to continue working together to support Ukraine, to defend democracy around the world, including against disinformation, and to uphold the rules-based international order.

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, spoke with the German Federal Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner.

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, spoke with the German Federal Minister of Finance, Christian Lindner.

Both the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister noted the importance of their countries’ continued close collaboration and steadfast commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Germany’s G7 presidency in 2022. The two noted the importance of maintaining a united front, including through NATO and the G7, to stand against Russia’s aggressive and destabilizing actions.

The Deputy Prime Minister discussed the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s economic resilience and stability, including through the European Commission’s proposal to offer €1.2 billion in assistance and Canada’s own recent assistance of a loan of up to $120 million. Both the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister agreed to stay in close contact regarding the current situation in Ukraine.

They also spoke of the shared global challenges of inflation, combatting climate change, and ensuring a strong and inclusive economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. The Deputy Prime Minister underlined Canada’s commitment to work with Germany in transitioning to a greener global economy, including Canada’s commitment to a price on pollution and to advancing border carbon adjustments.

They will continue to work together to implement the landmark two-pillar framework for international tax reform to end the race to the bottom in international taxation and ensure a level playing field for Canadian and German workers and businesses.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister agreed to continue Canada’s and Germany’s coordinated efforts on Ukraine and other key international priorities, with the shared goal of ensuring a stable, sustainable, and more prosperous world.
