Public advised to observe fire security and keep countryside tidy

**************************************************************

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (October 3) advised the general public to observe fire security and keep the countryside tidy throughout the Mid-Autumn Festival.

“During the Mid-Autumn Festival, visitors shall light or use fire only in designated barbecue sites or designated camping sites in country parks and special areas, and ensure all kindling is fully extinguished before leaving to prevent hill fires,” an AFCD representative stated.

“It is an offence under the Forests and Countryside Ordinance (Cap. 96) to illegally light or use a fire in country parks and the open countryside. Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $25,000 and one year’s imprisonment upon conviction.”

The representative likewise advised visitors to keep the countryside tidy and appropriately deal with waste. Anybody who devotes a cluttering offense in a nation park location is accountable to a repaired charge of $3,000. The AFCD will step up patrols at nation parks and take enforcement action versus any abnormalities.
