We’ll always have summer — and now we get even more of it. Amazon Prime Video has officially announced a feature film for the finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The news comes as the series wrapped its third and final season on Wednesday, and was announced at the series’ finale red carpet celebration in Paris, France.
Series creator Jenny Han, who wrote the books the series is based on, will write the film’s script along with Sarah Kucserka. “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans,” Han said in a statement.
While specific details like a release date or plot have not yet been divulged, the movie will continue where the story of Belly (Lola Tung), Conrad (Christopher Briney), and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) left off as the young adults step into their respective chapters. The series finale tied up some of the biggest loose ends, including how the love triangle between all the characters ends — but it left a lot of questions to be answered. Will there be a wedding? Will some characters make a cross-country move?
In the Season Three finale, Han included a handwritten note in the credits where she thanked viewers and readers alike for their dedication to the story of Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. (According to Amazon, the Season Three premiere drew 25 million viewers globally within a week of hitting streaming.)
“Whether you’ve been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show, I’m so grateful you’ve made Belly’s story part of your summers,” Han wrote. She closed the note with what seemed like a hint that the story wasn’t over after all. “Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then… “
