DDAFC participates in APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting (with images)

The Deputy Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Mr Patrick Lai, went to the tenth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Food Security Ministerial Meeting held the other day (August 9) and today (August 10) in Incheon, Korea, to go over and exchange views with agents of other member economies on numerous subjects such as adoption of digital innovations, sharing of understanding on sophisticated innovations in farming, driving development in agri-food systems and improving strength and sustainability of food supply chains.
The Meeting, themed “Driving Innovation in Agri-food Systems for Shared Prosperity”focuses on cultivating a more linked, ingenious, and flourishing Asia-Pacific area. All member economies declared their dedication to promoting co-operation amongst APEC member economies and promoting uniformity to reinforce food security through efficient, sustainable, resistant and ingenious agri-food systems for the success of all our individuals and future generations.
Speaking at the Meeting, Mr Lai stated that the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will continue to team up with member economies to promote sustainable farming and advancement of ingenious agri-food systems in the Asia-Pacific area. Furthermore, he presented the visions and work targets for the modernisation and sustainable advancement of the farming market as described in the Blueprint for the Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Fisheries, which was developed collectively by the HKSAR Government and the trade. At the Meeting, he likewise declared the steady dedication of the HKSAR Government to advancement of ingenious agri-food systems and local cooperation, and highlighted the requirement of collective efforts amongst member economies to resolve the pushing ecological obstacles consisting of severe weather condition occasions and natural catastrophes which continue to weaken food supply chains, in specific for small manufacturers and to develop a resistant and sustainable food supply system.
Mr Lai mentioned that the HKSAR Government will actively team up with APEC partners on promoting sustainable and innovative production techniques to improve performance and competitiveness of farmers, and will continue to preserve close interaction and co-operation with APEC member economies on subjects connected to development in agri-food systems and the promo of sustainable farming advancement.
