Tung Wah Eastern Hospital announced safety incident of hospital facilities

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority: 
 
     The spokesman for Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH) made the following announcement today (May 29) regarding a hospital facility safety incident:
      
     A loosened backup battery for the digital keypad system, fell down from the control box installed at the false ceiling at the entrance of the TWEH Ophthalmology Specialist Outpatient Clinic registration counter at around 2pm today. The battery is approximately 15 centimetres in length, 6 centimetres in width and 9 centimetres in height. No patient nor staff were injured and patient service was also not affected. The incident did not involve structural safety. The hospital is very concerned about the incident. Urgent repairs and inspection to the same devices in the hospital was arranged, where no abnormality was noted. 
      
     The hospital will request the maintenance contractor for the digital keypad system to submit a report and investigate the incident thoroughly. ​The hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.

Union Education and Skill Development Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the North East Research Conclave(NERC) 2022 at IIT, Guwahati today. Shri Pradhan in his address said that this conclave will  strengthen the linkages between industry, academia & policy makers and further invigorate the research, start-up and entrepreneurship ecosystems in the resource-rich Northeastern Region states and the country.






Talking about the importance of research the Education Minister said that the objective of research should be to find solutions to chronic problems of the country and to encourage all people to come together, work together and produce together for the welfare of the most vulnerable. NERC 2022 will be a global benchmark for fulfilling research & development priorities of India and the world, he added. Shri Pradhan  appealed to the youngsters and students to ‘walk on the path of duties and responsibilities’ to take the country to new heights.


The Union Minister further informed that to strengthen the research ecosystem, encourage innovation at grass-roots and lead India to self-reliance the government is in the process of setting up National Research Foundation with a proposed outlay of Rs 50,000 crore in line with the recommendations of NEP 2020. He also said that North Eastern region has immense potential to promote Research and Innovation.


Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in his deliberation said that Research and Development is very crucial for a fast developing nation like India. In a progressive society research and development has always been considered as the fundamental building block as it plays critical role in the process of innovation and expanding our knowledge and understanding, he added.


Minister of State for Education Shri Rajkumar Ranjan Singh in his address said that North-East Research Conclave is the platform for the entrepreneurs and research institutions to showcase their innovations. He said that this is a very useful initiative for North East which brings policy makers, industrialists and researchers to same platform. This mega event will have great impact on the educational sector of this region, he added


Addressing the NERC Conclave, Minister of State for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar said that Government is working for advancement of education sector in every part of the country.


Union Shipping Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in his address said that North East Research Conclave will help the young generation to fulfill their dreams in near future.


On this occasion an MoU ‘Assam Advanced Health Innovation Institute(AAHI)’ was also signed between Government of Assam and IIT, Guwahati.


In today’s event Shri Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Government of Assam, Shri Keshab Mahanta, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Assam, Smt Queen Ojha, MP, Lok Sabha and  Prof. T.G Sitharam, Director, IIT, Guwahati were also present along with other dignitaries.


The North East Research Conclave 2022 is being organised to showcase the best Research & Developmental activities from all the educational and the research institutions across the states of North East India. It will also seek to create a common interface for interaction of academia and industry in North East India. The conclave will also work towards creating an environment, conducive to the development of local indigenous technologies and innovations, creating the scope and laying the foundation for entrepreneurship and to agglomerate a vast talent pool, for the promotion of Translational Research.

2021: South Eastern Railway (SER) registered highest ever Loading Performance

Year 2021 has been a remarkable year for South Eastern Railway in terms of freight loading and revenue. During the last year, SER has many notable achievements which are as under:


  1. 130 kmph train operation started on Andul-Jharsuguda section of Howrah-Mumbai mainline.




  1. Loading of 175.4 MT achieved in 2020-21 is highest ever Loading performance of SER.




  1. Gross Apportioned revenue for Calendar Year 2021(Upto Nov) was 15079 cr which is 14.86% higher than previous year.

  2. 67 rakes of BOXNHL have been converted to 25T axle load to improve throughput.




  1. Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, all identified 74 trains of SER have been provided with OBHS  services in the year 2021.

  2. 9 Trains including 11 rakes of conventional coaches were converted to LHB.




  1. Phase-I work of Sankrail – Freight terminal completed and was inaugurated by Hon’ble MR on 19.02.2021.

  2. Kalaikunda-Jhargram 3rd line section was commissioned and was Inaugurated by Hon’ble PM        on 22.02.2021.

  3. 32 Level crossings were closed in the year 2021 by construction of 16 Road under bridges and 5 Road Over bridges to improvement of safety of Road traffic.

  4. 4 nos. New Passenger lifts and 1 no. Escalator commissioned at various Stations of South Eastern Railway in the year 2021.

  5. 406.18 TKM Electrification achieved in the year 2021 compared to 227.42 TKM in previous year.

  6. Highest Electric Loco holding among all Zones of IR of 1064 Locos achieved in the year 2021.

  7. In March’2021, New Traction sub-station (132KV/25KV) was commissioned at Rourkela Steel Plant in CKP division.

  8. Electronic Interlocking has been commissioned at 11 stations (Baltikuri, Gidhni, Chakulia, Kalunga, Rajgangpur, Jhinkpani, Rangra, Muradih, Sudamdih, Bokaro E Cabion, Lodhma) and Modified at 8 stations (Jhargram, Bagdehi, Sardega, Balsiring, Muri, Jarsuguda Goods Yard, Jharsuguda Passenger Yard and Gokulpur).

  9. CCTV systems installed at 28 stations for Passenger safety and security.




  1. 41 IPS systems have been installed for uninterrupted power supply to signalling systems




  1. Under Green initiatives of SER, Supervisory Training Centre, KGP has achieved IGBC Green Existing Building Rating System “Gold” certification in the month of Feb’2021.

  2. Under Covid mitigation measures, 143825 Covid vaccine doses have been administered in various hospitals of South Eastern Railway. 1 LMO tank has been installed at Central Hospital GRC.

  3. A special Lady RPF commando team has been formed in Ranchi Division of South Eastern Railway for ensuring Safety and Security of Ladies and Girls travelling in trains.

  4. Bisra-Bondamunda (A cabin) (4.2 Km) of super critical project Monaharpur- Bondamunda (A) 3rd line (30 Km) commissioned on 24.08.2021.




  1. Balsring -Lodhma (9.9 Km) of Bondamunda-Ranchi Doubling commissioned on 30.12.2021.











22. Br   No-124, [9×45.7(OWG)+1×18.3(CG)]               completed        in      connection with       Rourkela     – Jharsuguda 3rd line (101.4 km).

  1. Ms. Nikki Pradhan, Ms. Salima Tete (Hockey) & Ms. Sutirtha Mukherjee (Table Tennis) represented the national team in the Tokyo Olympics2020. Ms. Pradhan & Ms. Salima Tete stood 4th in the championship.

GameAbove and Eastern Michigan University Rename Convocation Center

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Dec. 11, 2021 – PRLog — Eastern Michigan University announced the renaming of its Convocation Center to the George Gervin GameAbove Center in partnership with GameAboveTM to honor basketball Legend George “Iceman” Gervin. EMU unveiled the naming on Dec. 11 during the EMU Men’s Basketball game vs. Florida International, promoted as George Gervin Day.

GameAbove committed an additional $2.7 million to EMU Athletics to improve the facility’s technology infrastructure and enhance the student-athlete and visitor experience, including upgrades to athletic training facilities, team meeting rooms, visitor suites, and the EMU Hall of Fame. To date, GameAbove and its members have donated over $25 million to EMU to support students, faculty, staff, and the Ypsilanti community.

“George has built a wonderfully impactful legacy,” said Keith J. Stone, GameAbove Advisory Board member, and Gervin’s long-time friend. “He is truly a special person to me and so many others across the country. As a Detroit native and one of the best to ever play at EMU, this recognition is long overdue given all that he has accomplished on and off the court.”

Gervin was part of the EMU men’s basketball team from 1970-72 and led the team to the 1972 NCAA College Division National Championship Final Four. He played in the American Basketball Association, then eventually rose to stardom in the NBA. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and recently named to the NBA 75th Anniversary team. Gervin also established youth and community centers in San Antonio and Phoenix. His centers have impacted thousands of youth annually. “With all those accolades, I believe his work with children and his academies have elevated him to a level much higher than a great athlete,” said EMU Athletic Director Scott Wetherbee. “He’s a great person and in addition to him being in our Hall of Fame and having his number hanging in the rafters, we wanted to make sure his name would be synonymous with EMU.”

Outside of the building’s new name, Gervin’s incredible achievements will be depicted in a new documentary planned for release in early 2022. The documentary will highlight Gervin’s life, both on the court and off. Mike Tollin, who produced The Last Dance,the Emmy-winning documentary series about Michael Jordan and his last year with the Chicago Bulls, is the executive producer. The documentary’s director is One9, who directed Nas: Time is Illmatic, and L.A. Burning: The Riots 25 Years Later.

“We are excited to put George’s name on this building,” said EMU President Jim Smith. “George personifies the kinds of traits all successful people show-resilience, bravery, kindness and vision to make our world a better place. These traits are the cornerstones of our partnership with GameAbove. They continue to provide the vision to help move our university forward.”

Residents in Eastern District and Ma On Shan participate in COVID-19 vaccination events (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Patrick Nip, attended COVID-19 vaccination events in Eastern District and Ma On Shan today (September 26). He appealed to members of the public, in particular the elderly, to seize the opportunity to get vaccinated before the winter influenza season arrives and encourage family members and friends who are not yet vaccinated to receive vaccination as early as possible.
 
     Around 140 people attended the vaccination event at Hong Kong Central Library. After a health talk, the participants could choose to receive Sinovac vaccination at the Community Vaccination Centre (CVC) at Hong Kong Central Library or BioNTech vaccination at the CVC at Sai Wan Ho Sports Centre. The event was co-organised by the Eastern District Office, the Eastern and Wan Chai District Social Welfare Office and various organisations.
 
     Meanwhile, the Government’s outreach vaccination team provided the BioNTech vaccination service to about 65 residents of a private housing estate in Ma On Shan. This is the first time that the property management company of a housing estate has taken the lead to gather residents who want to receive COVID-19 vaccination to participate in outreach vaccination.
 
     “To take care of ourselves and our family members, we all have to understand the importance and urgency of receiving COVID-19 vaccination. In the face of the continued severe global pandemic situation and challenges posed by mutant strains, we must make concerted efforts and do our best to increase the vaccination rate. Basically, persons who are suitable for vaccination should get vaccinated. Both COVID-19 vaccines available in Hong Kong are safe and highly effective in protecting against severe disease and death from COVID-19 infection,” Mr Nip said.
 
     All eligible persons who want to receive COVID-19 vaccination can collect same-day tickets from 21 CVCs under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme so that they can get vaccinated without prior booking.
 
     The Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases and the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Zoonotic Diseases under the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health recommend that elderly persons should receive COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible, as long as they are not suffering from acute illnesses. All elderly persons who have previously received influenza vaccines can safely receive COVID-19 vaccines.
