Dementia Society of America Named Finalist in Anthem Awards for Its National PSA Campaign

Dementia Society of America® (DSA) announced that it has been selected as a Finalist in the 3rd Annual Anthem Awards for its national Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign. This campaign has been instrumental in driving awareness and education about Dementia and promoting brain health across the United States.

The Dementia Society’s PSA initiative consists of two parts. One PSA provides valuable information and support for those living with Dementia and their caregivers. The other encourages and educates people on boosting overall brain health through simple yet meaningful lifestyle changes. Both PSAs inspire viewers to request the DSA’s free guide, “The Big Umbrella,” which offers practical tips on understanding Dementia, planning care, and enhancing brain health.

Kevin Jameson, volunteer, president, and founder of Dementia Society of America explained the impact of this campaign, “These PSA’s have really accelerated and increased our ability to achieve the organization’s primary mission – and that is to raise awareness and educate those living with Dementia, their caregivers, and the public. Through these PSAs, we’ve not only conveyed our message effectively but have also widely distributed vital information about Dementia and overall brain health.”

As of November 2023, the Dementia Society PSAs have achieved notable success with over 160,000 network and local airings and over 1 billion gross impressions, as reported by Nielsen Research. These PSA’s have driven a sustained, five-fold increase in requests for information or assistance from the Dementia Society of America.

The Anthem Awards were established in 2021 to celebrate the purpose and mission-driven work of individuals, companies, and organizations worldwide. This year’s finalists were selected from a pool of more than 2,000 submissions from 44 countries by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS). The winners will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024.

PALM BEACH, Fla.Sept. 27, 2023PRLog — New Book “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” by Healthcare Industry Veteran Patrick Smith Reveals a Shocking Examination of the Profit-Driven Healthcare System

Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. September 27, 2023  Patrick S. Smith a distinguished 45-year veteran of the healthcare industry, has just released his groundbreaking exposé, “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain.” In this eye-opening book, Smith provides a deeply cynical perspective on a healthcare system that appears to prioritize financial gain over the health and well-being of its population, highlighting how it perpetuates chronic illness rather than embracing prevention methodologies known to enhance the quality of life.

Smith’s provocative narrative delves into the alarming reality that our dietary habits are contributing to widespread health issues, all while serving as a lucrative endeavor for various stakeholders, including the insurance industry, hospital systems, the medical community, lawyers, and pharmaceutical giants. “The whole system complements each other’s interests,” Smith asserts, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship that perpetuates the status quo.

The book underscores the prevailing approach of treating diseases and managing symptoms, often neglecting the root causes and the proven effectiveness of lifestyle changes. “A sick society is a profitable enterprise,” Smith comments, shedding light on the inherent financial interests that thwart genuine healthcare reform.

Smith expresses skepticism about the prospects of reform, citing the substantial influence of lobbying, special interest groups, and the considerable sums of money involved. “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” serves as a clarion call for a paradigm shift in healthcare, advocating for a pragmatic approach that could usher in a new era of health and wellness for society.

Against this backdrop, Smith focuses on the failures in addressing Alzheimer’s disease. Drawing from 25 years of experience in research and healthcare leadership, he exposes the manipulation of data, research, and profit-seeking practices plaguing the fight against this debilitating condition. “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” guides readers through the labyrinth of drug development setbacks, suppression of innovative research, the questionable allocation of research funding, and unchecked greed.

Patrick Smith is renowned for his innovation and commitment to finding solutions that enhance quality of life, reduce healthcare costs, and improve outcomes for countless individuals. In response to the critics who resist systemic change, Smith bravely declares, “Of course, the critics do not like systemic change that disrupts the status quo, so I am accustomed to taking arrows to the back.”

“Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” promises to be a thought-provoking and impactful exploration of the healthcare system’s complexities and challenges, offering readers a unique perspective from an industry veteran who is unafraid to challenge the prevailing norms.

The book is now released and is  available at  Amazon and major bookstores and online retailers worlwide.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.Sept. 11, 2023PRLog — “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” Challenges the Conventional Approach to Neurological Disease Treatment

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
– Health Care CEO Emeritus, Patrick S. Smith, has unveiled a groundbreaking book that promises to revolutionize the way we understand and approach neurological diseases. Titled “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain,” Smith’s work introduces a pioneering paradigm shift in the treatment of conditions such as Alzheimer’s Disease and related Dementia. In a world where prevention is the new cure, Smith contends that we must address the root causes early on to effectively combat these devastating diseases.

In this thought-provoking book, Patrick S. Smith, a seasoned 45-year veteran of the Healthcare Service, Pharmaceutical research, and pharmacy distribution, delivers a scathing critique of the Western medical care system. He argues that the system is designed to treat illness, mask symptoms, and perpetuate a cycle of healthcare services that benefits a colossal hospital, pharmaceutical, and insurance industry—all at the expense of an increasingly unhealthy population.

Smith’s central premise is clear: prevention is the only proven methodology for tackling neurological diseases effectively. He presents readers with a comprehensive program developed by Brain Love Health, Inc., designed to intervene at the very early stages of the disease’s development, in Midlife. Smith meticulously delves into the hormonal changes within the endocrine system, specifically focusing on the HPG Axis as the root cause of Alzheimer’s Disease. He challenges the traditional belief that amyloid plaques are the sole problem and instead dissects the various stages of pathology, revealing how they collectively contribute to the progression of cognitive decline.

“Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” is poised to be a game changer in our understanding of Dementia and its development. Smith’s persuasive argument for a new approach to these diseases, backed by peer-reviewed research, is sure to spark conversations and inspire fresh perspectives within the medical community and beyond.

Even for those who may initially disagree with Smith’s thesis, his book offers valuable insights that can reshape the conversation around neurological diseases. It is a must-read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Dementia and a potential path to prevention.

You can find “Dementia Does Not Start in the Brain” on sale now at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and all other major booksellers worldwide. The book is available in both hardcover and e-book formats, with editions in both Spanish and English. Don’t miss this opportunity to pick up a copy today and join the discussion on the future of neurological disease treatment.

Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center Introduces a New Video Production

VIEWS FROM WITHIN: A Lewy Body Video Series Revealing Firsthand Experiences of People Living with Lewy Body Dementia, their Caregivers, and Expert Physicians.

NEW YORKMarch 29, 2023PRLog — This difficult-to-diagnosis disease affects more than 1.4 million adults and has included celebrities Robin Williams, Tom Seaver, Dina Merrill, and Estelle Getty.

Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center (LBDRC) has released its exclusive video series, VIEWS FROM WITHIN, presenting firsthand experiences of people living with Lewy body dementia (LBD), their caregivers, and expert physicians. Crucial information and personal experiences about little-known multiple symptoms and numerous stages are shared in order to heighten awareness of LBD’s manifestations, and the difficulties families face in getting the correct diagnosis and the ensuing challenging care.

The series, a first of its kind, is presented in 10 separate segments of approximately 20 minutes in length, each with a focus on one specific difficult LBD symptom, such as hallucinations, fluctuations, behavioral issues, and movement issues.

Lewy body dementia is the second most common form of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease and affects more than 1.4 million Americans.  It is widely misdiagnosed, as it can mimic Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, or a psychiatric disorder.  More people have LBD than Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, and Frontotemporal Dementia COMBINED.  And though more people in the United States have LBD than are HIV positive, LBD is still widely unknown.

“It is amazing that even with these staggering statistics, the phrases “Lewy what?” and “How do you spell that?” are still what we constantly hear,” says Mary Lou Falcone, founder of M.L. Falcone Public Relations, board member of the Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center, and author of I Didn’t See It Coming: Scenes of Love, Loss, and Lewy Body Dementia (Publication date October 3, 2023, by East End Press).

Dr. Jason Cohen, a member of the LBDRC board and a neurologist and dementia specialist at Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, says, “Knowledge is critical for my patients and their families:  knowledge that there is a reason for all the different symptoms and knowledge that they are not alone.”

Among those who had LBD are Robin Williams, Tom Seaver, Dina Merrill, and Estelle Getty.  Currently, Ted Turner has LBD, along with many others who are undiagnosed or who have not made their diagnoses public.

“This video series has been created to help the public understand the complexities of this neurodegenerative brain disease as well as to guide those searching for a correct diagnosis, those who have this disease, and the loved ones caring for them,” says Norma Loeb, Executive Director of the Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center.

Views From Within:  A Lewy Body Video Series can be viewed on Lewy Body Dementia Resource Center’s website at: https://lewybodyresourcecenter.org/views-from-within-a-lewy-body-video-series/

Dementia focused Kickstarter Launching Mid-November with an option to donate to a UK care home

The Timeless Trainset: A gift for those with Dementia, helps connecting with people and encourages self expression.

SITTINGBOURNE, U.K.Nov. 3, 2022PRLog — Timeless Presents announces the launch of a Kickstarter Campaign for The Timeless Trainset. Their concept is aimed at helping to fill the gap in current thinking about engagement with those in the mid to late stages of Dementia. As sufferers journey into the later stages of the condition their ability to initiate thoughts around activities they might like to participate in significantly diminishes. This can give the impression that their sense of self has also gone, but this isn’t the case. Unfortunately for millions of Dementia sufferers around the world this can lead to a life of boredom and frustration.

Sharon & Chris Daltrey, of Timeless Presents, saw Sharon’s father, Brian, struggling with these issues as his Alzheimers slowly progressed, so they tried to think of fresh ways to engage with him. “Visits to see Dad at his care home were gradually becoming more difficult” explains Sharon, “Dad’s ability to form new memories had gone and asking him something as simple as what he had for lunch could cause him to become anxious.”

“We had been told that generally memories were lost in reverse order, with the earliest being the last to go” says Chris “an example of this was that Brian could still remember all the words to some nursery rhymes right up to the end.”

“This led us to think that Dad might often be existing in a much younger state to his chronological age. The first thing we bought him was a wooden train set, and although some thought it was a childish thing to do, he absolutely loved it, and that was the most important thing to us. And while we were playing with it together, because he needed help, we found it was a lovely way to connect with him.” said Sharon.

They also observed other benefits in Brian, that he recognised and was interested in the set, and having an idea of what he could do with it seemed to boost his agency and self confidence. Sharon says “now that Dad has gone we are launching Timeless Presents Ltd to help others experience what we, and my Dad did.”

Chris says “The gifting market for mid to late stage dementia is under served and knowing what to get your loved one can be tricky. We’re hoping our innovative gift ideas will go some way towards helping this situation”.

Working with Bigjigs Toys, who co-incidently made Brian’s original set, Sharon and Chris have developed a wooden train set to with a more adult style. Included in the set is a world famous steam locomotive, exclusive, era appropriate carriages contained within a cardboard box designed to resemble a vintage suitcase, complete with labels, that can be used for storage. The inner packaging has been designed to resemble the packaging of train sets from the mid-20th century. The set will also come with a useful hints and tips leaflet to help customers on their way to enjoying more moments together.
