Police are investigating an attempted murder and suicide case in Sha Tin today (January 30) in which an 80-year-old man died.
At about 4.33pm, Police received a report that a man was found collapsed on the floor inside an accessible toilet with head being wrapped with a plastic bag. A woman was also found next to the man and collapsed on a wheelchair with head being wrapped with a plastic bag.
Police officers sped to the scene. The man and the woman were rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state. The man was certified dead at 5.22pm, while the woman regained consciousness.
Initial investigation revealed that the man and woman were couple. The man was suspected attempting to kill his 71-year-old wife by wrapping a plastic bag around her head, then committed suicide by wrapping his head with a plastic bag.
The two plastic bags tied with strings, the woman’s wheelchair and the couple’s personal belongings, which were in suspected connections with the case, were seized at scene.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of the man’s death.

Police are investigating an attempted suicide and attempted murder case happened in Ma On Shan today (August 4) and arrested a 51-year-old man. At 4.15pm today, Police received a report that a 51-year-old man suspectedly attempted to commit suicide by burning charcoal in a village house at Chek Nai Ping on Tai Po Road – Ma Liu Shui. His 90-year-old father was in the house. After initial investigation, Police arrested the 51-year-old man for attempted murder. The arrestee is being detained for further enquiries. The 51-year-old man was found conscious while the 90-year-old man was in unconscious state. Both of them were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital. Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Sha Tin District is underway.

******************************************************** At 12.18 pm today (November 6), Police received a report saying that the 38-year-old man and his 33-year-old wife suspectedly burnt charcoal in a unit on Lai Ying Street yesterday. Their sons aged six and two were in the unit. After initial investigation, Police arrested the 38-year-old man and the 33-year-old woman for attempted murder. The arrestees are being detained for further enquiries. The six and two-year-old boys were sent to Caritas Medical Centre in conscious state. Investigation by the District Crime Squad of Sham Shui Po District is underway.

Police are investigating an attempted murder and suicide case in Ma On Shan yesterday (December 31, 2022), in which a 44-year-old woman died.
At 9.04pm, Police received a report from a 44-year-old man that his 44-year-old wife was injured and collapsed in a unit in Sai Sha Road.
Police officers sped to the scene and found the woman lying unconsciously in the living room. Sustaining injuries to her neck, she was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital and was certified dead at 9.41pm.
Police officers also found the man who sustained injuries on his neck inside the unit. He was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in conscious state.
Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the deceased’s cause of death.
