The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the sale and bursting of green crackers in Delhi-NCR for Diwali.
Enabling the joint demand of the Centre and Delhi federal government, a bench making up Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran unwinded the restriction on green firecrackers.
It asked the Central Pollution Control Boards and state contamination control panel of NCR to keep an eye on the contamination level throughout Diwali and submit reports before it.
“As a short-lived step, we enable rupturing of crackers from October 18 to 21,” the bench stated.
“Crackers are smuggled into Delhi-NCR and they trigger more damage than green firecrackers,” the CJI stated while reading out the personnel part of the order.
“We need to take a well balanced method, allowing it in small amounts while not jeopardizing with the environment,” the CJI stated.
The order stated patrolling groups will be performing routine examine cracker producers and their QR codes need to be published on the sites.
