In a moving display of sibling love and courage, a young girl from Mahabubnagar saved her 4-year-old brother’s life on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan by donating her stem cells.
The boy, diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia — a life-threatening condition caused by bone marrow failure — was undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad. His elder sister, an intermediate student, not only stood by him with words of reassurance but also became his life-saver. On Rakhi day, she tied a rakhi on his wrist and told him, “I am here for you, my brother,” before donating her stem cells for his treatment.
Dr Narender Kumar Thota of KIMS Hospital described the act as a true example of the deep bond between siblings, noting that the young donor overcame myths and fears to protect her brother. Doctors say the transplant has given the child a renewed chance at life, making this Raksha Bandhan an unforgettable celebration of love, sacrifice, and family.
