AUG East Consortium and NEC to establish high-capacity submarine cable television system throughout East Asia
SINGAPORE, 16 July 2025 -(JCN Newswire)-Singtel and a group of leading telecoms and tech business today revealed the finalizing of an agreement with NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) to develop the Asia United Gateway East (AUG East) submarine cable television system linking Singapore and Japan, with Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan. Targeted for conclusion by the 3rd quarter of 2029, the 8,900 km high-capacity cable television system will support the need for more bandwidth throughout this path, improving digital connection in the area.
The consortium, chaired by Singtel, consists of Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, ARTERIA Networks, Chunghwa Telecom, DREAMLINE, Globe Telecom, Telekom Malaysia and Unified National Networks.
