     To strengthen education collaboration with Belt & Road countries and regions, scholarships have been offered to outstanding students coming from countries along the Belt & Road since the 2016-17 academic year.
 
     News.gov.hk spoke to two scholarship awardees from Malaysia and Türkiye to share their experiences and insights about their study in Hong Kong, while the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Jeff Sze outlined how the city’s talent pool could benefit from attracting international students.

2024 Sema Scholarship Applications Now Open

Awards up to $5,000 are available to students pursuing automotive careers

The 2024 SEMA Scholarship application period for students pursuing careers in the automotive or performance parts industries is now open and will run through March 1, 2024. Interested applicants can review and complete the scholarship application atwww.sema.org/scholarships.

The SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund supports career development and access into the automotive industry by offering financial awards up to $5,000 to help foster the next generation of industry leaders and innovators. In addition to financial assistance, scholarship winners have the opportunity to attend the SEMA Show, providing unparalleled education and networking opportunities.

Masen Schneider, a freshman studying mechanical engineering at theUniversity of North Dakota, received aSEMA Scholarship in 2023, furthering his opportunity to achieve his dream career in the automotive aftermarket. It means a lot to receive a scholarship from an organization like SEMA because as big and impactful as they are, they see your story and experience and want to help propel you towards your dream, he said. Schneider hopes to one day be an automotive parts designer.

High school seniors and college students in the United States and Canada who demonstrate a passion for automotive hobbies and careers are eligible to apply. Scholarships are available in a variety of disciplines leading to a career in the automotive aftermarket, including accounting, sales, marketing, engineering, and more.

SEMA is committed to supporting students with an ambition to accelerate their career in the dynamic and exciting world of the automotive aftermarket, said SEMA Manager of Recognition Programs Chris Standifer. The financial support can help alleviate the burden of student loans and make pursuing their education more accessible.

A loan forgiveness component is also available to employees of SEMA-member companies who have completed and are currently paying off a loan for a program of study at an accredited university, college or vocational/technical school within the United States and Canada. Loan forgiveness awards are issued up to $2,000.

Eligible students and SEMA-member company employees can apply until March 1, 2024, at www.sema.org/scholarships.

The SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund offers financial assistance of up to $5,000 to foster future leaders and innovators in the automotive aftermarket industry. Scholarship Schemes


The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements three Scholarship Schemes viz. Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship Schemes for the educational empowerment of students belonging to economically weaker sections of the six notified minority communities i.e. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsi and Sikh in all States/UTs across the country. A total of thirty (30) lakh Pre-Matric, 5 lakh Post Matric and 60,000 Merit-cum-Means scholarships are targeted to be distributed as ‘Fresh’ Scholarships every year, besides, Renewal scholarships. The  three  scholarship  schemes are  being  implemented  through  the  National  Scholarship  Portal  (NSP)  and are  being  disbursed  under  direct  benefit  transfer (DBT)  mode  to  improve  the  efficiency  and  bring  transparency  by  removing duplicity  and  stopping  pilferages.

SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDENTS FROM MARGINALISED AND SC/ST COMMUNITIES




The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment implements two National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) schemes. One is implemented by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment under which financial assistance is provided to selected students from Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans for pursuing Masters and Ph.D level courses abroad. The other is implemented by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DoEPwD) under which scholarship is provided to the selected students with disabilities for pursuing Masters and Ph. D level courses abroad. Similarly, Ministry of Tribal Affairs is also implementing NOS Scheme for students belonging to ST communities.


The total expenditure during the last five years under the three National Overseas Scholarship schemes for students from marginalised communities is Rs. 100.62 Crore.


A total of 3244 applications were received over the past five years from students under the three schemes of National Overseas Scholarship mentioned in response to part (a) of the question. Out of these a total of 726 students have been awarded scholarships.


A total of 9794 students have been awarded scholarships under the Top Class Education Scheme for SC students over the last five years, and an expenditure of Rs 179.62 Crores has been incurred under the scheme during the period.
