2023 Sema Scholarship Applications Now Open

Up to $5,000 available to students and recent graduates pursuing careers in the automotive aftermarket

The 2023 SEMA Scholarship application period for students preparing for careers in the automotive or performance parts industries is now open and will run through March 1, 2023. Interested applicants can review and complete the scholarship application at www.sema.org/scholarships.

The SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund offers financial assistance of up to $5,000 to foster future leaders and innovators in the automotive aftermarket industry. A loan forgiveness component is also available to employees of SEMA-member companies who have completed and are currently paying off a loan for a program of study at an accredited university, college, or vocational/technical school within the United States.

Education can be expensive, but that shouldnt limit students from getting ahead in their careers, said Pamela Brown-Matthis, SEMA Director of Education. There are so many career options in the automotive aftermarket, and its a thriving industry to be in. We encourage students who have a passion for cars to apply for a SEMA scholarship so that we can help jump-start their careers.

The annual scholarship program is a cornerstone of SEMAs efforts to support career development and access in the automotive industry. Scholarship winners will have the opportunity to attend the 2023 SEMA Show, providing unparalleled networking and education opportunities at the worlds largest trade show for the automotive aftermarket.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens 18 years or older and demonstrate a passion for automotive hobbies and careers. Scholarships are available in a variety of categories, including but not limited to accounting, sales, marketing, and engineering. Eligible students and SEMA-member company employees can apply until March 1, 2023, at www.sema.org/scholarships.

Scholarship Schemes


The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements three Scholarship Schemes viz. Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship Schemes for the educational empowerment of students belonging to economically weaker sections of the six notified minority communities i.e. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsi and Sikh in all States/UTs across the country. A total of thirty (30) lakh Pre-Matric, 5 lakh Post Matric and 60,000 Merit-cum-Means scholarships are targeted to be distributed as ‘Fresh’ Scholarships every year, besides, Renewal scholarships. The  three  scholarship  schemes are  being  implemented  through  the  National  Scholarship  Portal  (NSP)  and are  being  disbursed  under  direct  benefit  transfer (DBT)  mode  to  improve  the  efficiency  and  bring  transparency  by  removing duplicity  and  stopping  pilferages.

SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDENTS FROM MARGINALISED AND SC/ST COMMUNITIES




The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment implements two National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) schemes. One is implemented by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment under which financial assistance is provided to selected students from Scheduled Castes, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans for pursuing Masters and Ph.D level courses abroad. The other is implemented by Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DoEPwD) under which scholarship is provided to the selected students with disabilities for pursuing Masters and Ph. D level courses abroad. Similarly, Ministry of Tribal Affairs is also implementing NOS Scheme for students belonging to ST communities.


The total expenditure during the last five years under the three National Overseas Scholarship schemes for students from marginalised communities is Rs. 100.62 Crore.


A total of 3244 applications were received over the past five years from students under the three schemes of National Overseas Scholarship mentioned in response to part (a) of the question. Out of these a total of 726 students have been awarded scholarships.


A total of 9794 students have been awarded scholarships under the Top Class Education Scheme for SC students over the last five years, and an expenditure of Rs 179.62 Crores has been incurred under the scheme during the period.

Scholarship Scheme for Minority Communities


The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements three Scholarships Schemes viz; Pre-Matric, Post Matric and Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship Schemes for the educational empowerment of students belonging to economically weaker section of the six notified minority communities i.e. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsi and Sikh in all States/UTs across the country. The Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) under the Ministry of Minority Affairs also implements the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship Scheme (BHMNS) for meritorious girl students belonging to the six notified minority communities. Since 2014-15, there are more than 5.10 crore* beneficiaries compared to 3.15 crore beneficiaries before 2014-15. The scholarship is being provided through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and more than 52% of the beneficiaries are girls.

The John Abio Scholarship – Working to Inspire Future Entrepreneurs

Future entrepreneurs enrolled in a business undergraduate program in the US are now welcome to apply for the John Abio Scholarship.

After graduating from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. degree in Political Science, John Abio spent the start of his career working his way up within large insurance companies. However, John soon became interested in founding his own business and successfully formed companies within the Finance, Medical, Oil & Gas, and Real Estate industries. John currently resides in Boca Raton, Florida, with his family and is excited to share his knowledge and passion for business with the next generation.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Young Entrepreneurs
After founding these successful companies, John became passionate about inspiring young entrepreneurs across the country. As a business owner, he is excited to give back to future generations and inspire them to follow along the same fulfilling path he’s experienced during his career. The John Abio Scholarship will be awarded to a university business undergrad student in the US who is passionate about a career in entrepreneurship in the future.

John understands the financial and personal challenges that young entrepreneurs often face today and hopes to encourage them at the starting point of their career. John is clearly a very generous individual, and this is always apparent by the time and energy he offers to anyone he works with. He hopes to relieve the scholarship’s winner of some of the financial burdens of college, so they can focus their energy on their entrepreneurial endeavours.

Applying for the Scholarship
To apply for the scholarship, you must currently be a business undergraduate student in the US or a high school student that is about to start college to study for a business degree. The application process requires you to write an essay of 1000 words or less, which is how the award’s winner will be selected. The topic of the essay is:

“Describe an industry in the world that needs drastic improvement and how a new business idea would make that industry better.”

Selecting the Winner
The John Abio Scholarship will be awarded to one student, who will receive a generous one-time award of $1,000. The deadline for applications is on December 15, 2021, and the winner will be announced on January 15, 2022. The funds will be deposited directly into the winner’s account, and John is excited to review the applications that are received and speak with the winner about their entrepreneurial pursuits.

How to Apply
In order to apply for the John Abio Scholarship, please follow the instructions below:

· Write your answer to the essay question described above in 1000 words or less within a Word document.
· Submit your application to john@johnabioscholarship.com.
· As well as your application essay, please ensure you include your full name, phone number, address, and email address.
· Ensure you also include your High School name and graduation date, your university name, personal bio, and your GPA.

John will notify the winner of the award by email, and the winner’s details will be added in the future to the John Abio Scholarship website.
