Minister Agnimitra Paul at Birendra Krishna Bhadra’s house in Shyambazar on his birth anniversary on Tuesday
Kolkata: The house of Birendra Krishna Bhadra may be declared a heritage site to preserve his legacy while Shyambazar Metro Station could be named after him. There may also be a bust or statue of Bhadra on or just outside the premises of Akashvani Bhavan, where he had orated ‘Mahishasuramardini’, the 90-minute dawn broadcast played each year on Mahalaya.
State urban development & municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul visited the ancestral house of the radio broadcaster, narrator and playwright in Shyambazar to pay homage on the occasion of Bhadra’s 122nd birth anniversary on Tuesday. The minister also met Bhadra’s daughter-in-law Sushmita and other family members.Paul said she will request the chief minister to declare the house a heritage site. “On behalf of the family, I would place a request to the CM to declare this house a heritage site to preserve his legacy.
Secondly, as requested by the family, I will place a request for Shyambazar Metro Station to be named after him,” Paul said.The first recitation of ‘Mahishasuramardini’ by Bhadra was aired at Akashvani Bhavan, on what was then the Indian State Broadcasting Service, on Sept 22, 1931. “I will also place a third proposal befor ethe CM, for a statue of Bhadra in or outside Akashvani Bhavan, with which he was intimately connected,” Paul said after visiting the family.
