United States semiconductor producer Qualcomm confessed that it had actually not notified Chinese authorities when it finished its acquisition of Israel’s Autotalks in June, China’s market regulator stated on Sunday.
The disclosure was made 2 days after China introduced an antitrust examination into Qualcomm, taking a look at whether the United States company breached China’s antitrust law by not stating some information of its acquisition of the Israeli chip designer.
Qualcomm did not instantly react to Reuters’ ask for remark.
China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) stated it notified Qualcomm in March 2024 that the offer needs approval by the regulator, and the United States company in the very same month informed SAMR it would not pursue even more.
Qualcomm in June this year finished the offer without notifying the authority, the regulator stated, including Qualcomm “acknowledged above facts”based upon which Beijing released the antitrust probe.
Qualcomm’s shares fell more than 5 percent on Friday after United States President Donald Trump threatened to trek tariffs versus China and cancel a scheduled conference with President Xi Jinping.
