Signing of Agreement with Yamaguchi Prefecture and Iwakuni City to Construct Module Pack Plant of Automotive Cylindrical Lithium-Ion Batteries
Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, September 4, 2025 – (JCN Newswire) –Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) today signed a contract with Yamaguchi Prefecture and Iwakuni City relating to the building of the “Mazda Motor Corporation Iwakuni Plant,” a brand-new module pack plant for vehicle round lithium-ion battery cells in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, as revealed in January this year. Based upon this contract, building will start in November this year, with the goal of beginning plant operations in 2027. The Iwakuni Plant will be Mazda’s very first brand-new domestic plant considering that the start of operations at the Hofu No. 2 Plant in 1992.
