In an important update for all commuters, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) will not be running as usual on the morning of Sunday, August 24, 2025. According to Grand River Transit, ION service will be suspended between Conestoga Station and Fairway Station until 1 PM due to “planned maintenance.” Shuttle services will be operational in place of the trains.

According to CTV News, shuttle buses will pick up passengers at or near ION stations. Those locations are listed on Grand River Transit’s website. The shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes and stop at every ION station. Regular service will resume around 1 PM on Sunday (August 24, 2025).

In a separate incident that occurred in July 2025, a Canadian National Railway Co. train derailed in southwestern Ontario, halting passenger train service, according to Global News. An investigation was launched into the matter.

Following the incident, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said that it sent a team of investigators to Paris, Ont., to collect evidence and determine what happened.

According to CN, around two dozen railcars and one locomotive derailed and remained upright. No injuries were reported due to the incident. There were also no reports of leaks, spills, fires, or blocked crossings. Via Rail had said that the rail traffic was “completely halted” in the surrounding area, and there were significant service disruptions.

The railway company stated that the affected routes have either been cancelled or will operate on alternative tracks. It said that the affected passengers were informed directly of the changes, and they were advised to check the status of their trains online.
