Scheduling plans for Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles to be improved to supply benefit for versatile travel

The Transport Department (TD) revealed today (August 1) that, to offer benefit to members of the general public in taking a trip under Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles (the Scheme) more flexibly, the federal governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong have after conversation equally consented to boost the reserving plans for taking a trip under the Scheme.

A spokesperson for the TD stated, “From September 1, 2025 onwards, bookings will not be required for vehicles travelling to Guangdong Province via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) under the Scheme on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except specified dates. Booking is required on specified dates, including Hong Kong or Mainland public holidays and the day before, toll-free days of the HZMB and other dates specified by the authority. Booking is also required on Mondays and Thursdays to Sundays. The Scheme’s eligibility, application procedures and balloting remain unchanged.”

The TD will upgrade the site later on to set out dates in the coming 6 months when reservations are not needed. Dates in the following month when reservations are not needed will be revealed on the very first calendar day of every month by means of the Specified Dates Booking System for candidates’ referral. Existing plans of accepting reservations for defined dates in the following month from the 15th calendar day of every month will likewise stay the same.

Of note, visitors preparing to take a trip on defined dates are needed to finish the appointment before midday on the day before travel by means of the Specified Dates Booking System, so that they might take a trip throughout the reserved time slot. To make sure the Scheme’s smooth operations, if any car is discovered taking a trip on defined dates without previous booking, taking a trip beyond the reserved time slot or missing after reserving, the TD will strictly impose the charge, consisting of suspension of its scheduling eligibility for a time period, cancellation of its Closed Road Permit (CRP), and even suspension of the CRP holder’s eligibility to re-apply for the Scheme.
