People of color have been subjected to oppression, discrimination, violence, racism, and murder as a consequence of their skin color. These racial injustices have long afflicted the United States of America, the supposedly glorious land of the free. But how can you call America the land of freedom when people of color are discriminated against and continue to be oppressed?

Booker T. Williams, a Doctor of Education degree holder in Organizational Leadership, chips off the façade and exposes the disease that has killed countless innocent lives—racism. In his book, “The Ugly Color of Race in America Continues!” Dr. Booker T. Williams compels everyone to take a stand against systemic racism.

The book gives a quick overview of the history of prejudice and the detrimental consequences it has had on African-Americans in the past and now. It’s also a call to action for people to stop doing nothing and allow bigotry to eat away at the rights that our forefathers fought so hard for. Dr. Williams’ story provides a chance for self-reflection.

“If you are comfortable with my oppression, you are my oppressor,” he writes, quoting A. Philip Randolph. He calls for unity and encourages anybody who opposes racism to speak up and practice dissent, which is at the heart of democracy. It portrays racism as a festering disease and one of the country’s deepest chasms. There will never be a genuinely united United States of America unless it is destroyed.
