The program begins at 9 a.m. in room 1210 of the Health Sciences Building on St. Sebastian Way and features keynote speaker Roy L. Simpson, an internationally recognized nursing informatics expert and vice president of nursing at Cerner Corp.
At Cerner, the leading U.S. supplier of health care information technology solutions, Mr. Simpson manages strategic sales and the patient care enterprise. He has more than 30 years of experience and has more than 700 published articles and presentations on nursing informatics and health care.
Additional speakers include Marilyn Bowcutt, past president of the American Organization of Nurse Executives; Dr. Max Stachura, director of the MCG Center for Telehealth and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar in Telemedicine; William Andrews, associate professor and education program coordinator in the MCG Department of Medical Illustration; and Barbara Meeks, vice president of pediatric patient care services at the MCGHealth Childrens Medical Center.
Technology is evolving so fast in health care that its critical we try to maintain an understanding, not only of current changes, but of what future technology may have in store for us, said Dr. Marlene Rosenkoetter, chair of the MCG School of Nursing Academy of Nurse Scholars in Education and professor of biobehavioral nursing.
The academy was established in 2007 to recognize School of Nursing faculty who excel in educational activities. As a co-sponsor of the conference, the academy hopes not only nurses will attend, but allied health professionals and educators as well, Dr. Rosenkoetter said.
The program, co-sponsored by the University of South Carolina at Aiken School of Nursing, the MCG Division of Continuing Education, the MCG Center for Telehealth, MCGHealth, University Health Care System and Cerner, will be held via teleconference in room 1 of the MCG School of Nursing at Athens building on Barnett Shoals Road and in room 317 of the Ruth Patrick Science Center at USC Aiken. Registration is $35. The conference counts for five hours of continuing education credit.
