The MICHELIN Guide celebrates the most remarkable hotels in the world, by creating a special distinction: The MICHELIN Key

The MICHELIN Guide teams have selected more than 5,000 hotels and accommodations throughout the world, all available for booking on guide.michelin.com and the Guide mobile application

WEBWIRE

  • With this new selection, The MICHELIN Guide creates the MICHELIN Key, a special distinction that highlights the establishments offering the most exceptional hotel experiences
  • These hotels and accommodations will receive the MICHELIN Key beginning in 2024

As it does for restaurants, The MICHELIN Guide intends on independently recommending hotels that constitute true destinations. After four years of work, The MICHELIN Guide now proposes a new selection of more than 5,000 remarkable hotels in 120 countries.

In an industry saturated with questionably trustworthy endorsements, the MICHELIN Guide offers its expertise to travelers to guide them towards only the very best experiences. In response to todays hyper-standardization of accommodation (in terms of design, interior decoration, special touches, and so on), The MICHELIN Guide will appeal to travelers emotions by orienting them towards bold establishments that excel in every way: architectural approaches, professional know-how, and the existence of a true, identifiable personality.

The new MICHELIN Guide selection recommends more than 5,000 hotels throughout 120 countries in a broad range of prices and styles. The selection is based on five criteria:

  1. A destination unto itself: the hotel contributes to the local experience;
  2. Excellence in interior design and architecture;
  3. Individuality, reflecting personality and authenticity;
  4. Quality and consistency in service, comfort and maintenance;
  5. Consistency between the level of experience and the price paid.

Determined independently from all existing labels and free of any pre-established quotas, this hotel selection addresses those travelers who already trust The MICHELIN Guide and all those who seek verified, well-informed advice.

With this new approach to hotels, The MICHELIN Guide has three objectives:

  • To enable travelers to precede or follow a gourmet experience with a memorable hotel stay.
  • To guide guests towards accommodations of character that offer much more than just a room for the night.
  • To offer travelers the opportunity to choose, book, and share their experiences on a single independent platform.

Exploring the MICHELIN Guide website and mobile application is easy and intuitive from planning to booking. Clients may take inspiration from the magazine section, choose between accommodations using a filtering search engine, reserve a room, pay online, and provide feedback or share their experiences. The platform is ad-free for more fluid browsing, and future travelers can also enjoy a customer service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as the assistance of a team of travel experts who specialize in offering tailored guidance.

The MICHELIN Key, a new MICHELIN Guide distinction

In this new selection, The MICHELIN Guide teams seek to highlight the establishments that raise hospitality to an art form, forging absolutely unique experiences for travelers.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The MICHELIN Guides, states: The MICHELIN Key is a clear, reliable indication for travelers. Just as the MICHELIN Star distinguishes those restaurants that are at the peak of their art, the MICHELIN Key recognizes the most exceptional hotels throughout the world. It is also an acknowledgment of the teamwork of committed enthusiastic hospitality professionals.

Each year, the MICHELIN Key will distinguish exceptional establishments led by teams with unique forms of knowledge. The MICHELIN Key will be awarded following one or several stays conducted anonymously by The MICHELIN Guide selection teams.

The MICHELIN Guide teams are currently in the field and will reveal the first MICHELIN Key selection in the first half of 2024.

Michelin and the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours, 100 years of mobility-transforming innovation

The main environmental quality of a product is its ability to last

WEBWIRE

This year, we are celebrating the centenary of the Le Mans 24 Hours, the most prestigious and challenging endurance race in the world. It is an event in which Michelin has been involved since its inception. After securing victories alongside Alpine-Renault and Peugeot in the 1970s and early 1990s, Michelin has been involved in this twice-around-the-clock classic every year for the past quarterof- a-century. It has produced some of our most memorable triumphs in motorsport thanks to the talent of our staff and the taste for innovation that has been a hallmark of our participation since the inaugural race in 1923. For Michelin, motorsport is by its very nature an accelerator of technological progress and, over the past 100 years, Le Mans in particular has served as a fertile proving ground for ideas that have enabled our company to hone and refine our tyres with mobility and the environment the ultimate beneficiaries.

By winning the very first edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, on May 27, 1923, Michelin established an unbreakable bond with motor racing. It was as a direct result of its involvement in that inaugural race that we were able to demonstrate the viability of the removable car tyre. This invention, which proved to be robust, durable, convenient and practical for race teams, revolutionised the world of
mobility.

Over the course of our longstanding involvement with Le Mans, Michelin has secured its place in the history books by repeatedly showcasing its superiority when it comes to longlasting performance most notably during the 1950s and 1960s, and then without fail since 1998, the year that sparked our current, ongoing run of 25 consecutive victories.

Whether new or part-worn, Michelin tyres continue to enable drivers to push hard and with complete confidence from the first kilometre of the race to the last. Long before the environment and sustainable materials became the prevailing issues they are today, Michelin has long been firmly committed to a policy of reducing energy consumption without adversely impacting upon performance.

The sporting direction that Groupe Michelin has pursued over the years in terms of research and development has consistently led to the emergence of tyres with unrivalled durability, be they destined for motorsport or everyday road cars. Beyond the economic benefits in allowing drivers to cover longer distances before having to replace their tyres this approach stands out as the perfect response to the environmental challenges we all face today.

Past, present and future: 100 years of Michelin innovations at the Le Mans 24 Hours

With time, racing tyres have evolved at the same pace as the cars they equip. Successive new technologies whether mechanical or aerodynamic have presented Michelin with as many fresh challenges. The biggest developments from turbo engines to diesel cars, hybrid systems and even disc brakes made from different materials have provided Michelin with repeated opportunities to showcase its ability to adapt and innovate. Increasingly higher poweroutputs, downforce loads and torque levels, while at the same time reducing energy consumption, have posed the biggest challenges, inspiring the French manufacturer to dig deep and consistently push the limits in its unrelenting quest for longer-lasting performance. As the brand prepares to tackle the centenary edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, here are some of the key moments of Michelins success story there since 1923…

Michelin and Altaris announce their intention to join forces to accelerate the growth of Solesis, Michelin’s healthcare subsidiary

, the Michelin Group presented its strategy for 2030, which showed a determination to expand in non-tire businesses.

Sonia Artinian-Fredou, Executive Vice President, High-Tech Materials, commented:
“Our teams have acquired exceptional expertise in the physics and chemistry of High-Tech materials, including their simulation, production, scale-up and applications. This knowledge can be transferred to new, high-growth areas. The signing of this partnership agreement is fully aligned with the Group’s strategy and reflects its goal of unleashing the value of its expertise beyond tires. “

The planned transaction is subject to the customary regulatory approvals.
