Recipients were chosen based on their significant accomplishments in 2022 and 2023 to date.
As the Sales and Marketing Specialist for IU, Westray was also recognized in 2021 as a winner of the Top 5 Rising Stars in Marketing Awards by Ignite Visibility. With an organic marketing strategy heavily focused on in-house SEO, he has been able to generate significant increases in email campaign opens and clicks, as well as significant increases in website visitors and new client leads. Another notable accomplishment includes featured segments with the ABC, CBS, and FOX News Networks through more focus on Media Relations and content creation.

Just weeks after being named the SBA Minority Owned Small Business of the Year, Interpreters Unlimited (IU) was recognized with the Vonage People’s Choice Award. Vonage is a cloud communications provider and communication platform for consumers and businesses that make it possible for customers to connect and communicate on any device through cloud-hosted voice, video, chat and SMS.
The award was voted on during the Vonage Spring Hack, a biannual hackathon event organized by the Vonage Developer Relations Team, focused on technology, communication, innovation, customer experience and developer experience. The People’s Choice Award was for the favorite project that the Vonage team had worked on, with IU that was enabling any contact center with automated real-time voice interpretation. It is one of the driving forces behind the IU video remote and phone service system that has grown substantially since the pandemic began.
IU was also named to the Nimdzi Top 100 Largest Language Service Providers (LSP) in the World List and the Slator Language Service Provider Index Top 100. These lists rank the largest interpretation, translation, localization, and language technology companies in the US and Worldwide based on various factors like revenue and company size. On the Slator list, IU came in 24th in the US and 83rd worldwide. With Nimdzi, IU came in 27th in the US and 97th worldwide. This is out of more than out of more than 3,000 LSPs in the US and more than 18,500 worldwide.
Additionally, IU made the Top 10 Most Productive LSPs on the Nimdzi 100 List. The Most Productive LSPs were based on revenue vs number of employees. Looking at the productivity of the top 100 LSPs, the average revenue per employee in 2021 was about $213,000. IU came in #7 on the list with $466,667 in revenue per employee. They proved more productive per employee than 39 of the Top 40 of the Nimdzi 100, only 1 company in the Top 10 of the Nimdzi 100 was more productive in revenue per employee than IU.
Part of this growth and productivity ties into the incorporation of Vonage technology with IU proprietary technology which has helped increase remote interpreting over the years. IU serves over 10,000 Non-English speakers per month interpreting approximately 12,000,000 minutes per year and translating approximately 10,000,000 words per year. Interpreters Unlimited (IU) has been named to the Top 35 Largest Interpreting Service Providers List (Worldwide) by Nimdzi. Nimdzi is a market research and international consulting company with an extensive and diverse background in the language and localization industry, as well as in international business. This year, IU made the list at #22 globally and #12 in the US. Nimdzi has previously recognized IU by naming them to their Top 100 Largest Language Service Providers Lists over the past 3 consecutive years.
For the Top 35 Nimdzi focused on Language Service Providers (LSP) with $4 million or more in revenue. Collaborating with in country experts, their teams researched and spoke directly to each company’s management to obtain and verify estimates of their size. This list concentrated on interpreting revenue exclusively, on-site in person interpreting, video remote interpreting (VRI), over the phone interpreting (OPI), conference interpreting, sign language interpreting, equipment rental for interpreting and similar services. It did not include services such as document translation, localization or transcription.

While the Nimdzi ranking labels IU’s core interpreting business as on-site and in person, COVID-19 fast tracked the expansion of their video remote and over the phone interpreting. As COVID brought challenges to every company in the industry, threatening growth and stability, remote services, especially video interpreting, kept IU and the industry going.
IU is always integrating and embracing technology and had a video remote program already in use while focusing on in person on-site interpreting pre-COVID. As an app-based company using their own proprietary software in their processes, IU already incorporates a range of tech in their daily operations, so they were prepared to make the complete switch to video and phone when COVID hit. This kept them a step ahead of many competitors and ensured they were not left behind scrambling to respond. They shifted models almost seamlessly right out of the gate and never looked back.
