DANBURY, Conn.March 15, 2023PRLog — Regional Hospice is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Sung, MD as Medical Director for the organization.  Dr. Sung comes to Regional Hospice with more than 28 years of experience in the medical field and has been an expert in palliative care since 2016.

Dr. Robert Kloss, who has been Regional Hospice’s Medical Director for the past 40 years, will continue to serve in an honorary position with the organization.

Dr. Sung is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Palliative and Hospice Medicine.  Prior to joining Danbury Hospital in 2002, Dr. Sung practiced at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  She was an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and was part of the Clinical Faculty of the Massachusetts General Hospital Internal Medicine Residency.  She became the clinical leader for Palliative Care at Norwalk hospital in 2016, and there she taught the palliative care lecture series for the medical students from the Robert Larner College of Medicine, as well as oversaw Palliative training for the Norwalk Hospital internal medicine residents.  Dr. Sung’s other academic engagements include teaching the Palliative Medicine curriculum for Sacred Heart University’s Physician Assistant School and being a guest speaker for Dickinson Colleges’ Sociology class on Managing Death and Dying.

Recognizing the growing complexity of diseases and the increasing needs of our aging population in the outpatient setting, Dr. Sung established her own community-based Palliative Medicine practice in 2018.

Hospice Home Care Expands to Cover All of Los Angeles County

 Residents of Los Angeles County now have increased access to high-quality hospice care through HospiceHomeCare.org. The newly staffed hospice department is expected to care for more than 3000 patients each year in Los Angeles County.

“As one of Los Angeles County’s leading providers of hospice, we are privileged to serve and support patients who require levels of end of life care at home,” said William Winthorpe, general manager for Hospice Home Care in Los Angeles County. “The availability of this hospice department helps facilitate end-of-life care for hospice patients and their loved ones while providing the high level of compassionate care that Hospice Home Care is known for,” he went on to say.

The new hospice department includes the capacity to serve all of Los Angeles County with sufficient doctors, nurses, and health care professionals.

Patients receive end-of-life care, as needed for their individualized care plan, including medicine and nutrition, and receive medication management to ease pain.

The Elizabeth Hospice Hosts Butterfly Release Ceremony on May 2

from 1 to 3 pm. This free drive-through event will be held in the north parking lot of the California Center for the Arts, located at 340 N. Escondido Blvd in Escondido. Attendees will have the opportunity to release a butterfly while honoring and celebrating the special people who have touched their lives in a beautiful way. Registration is required by April 23, online at www.elizabethhospice.org/wings or by calling 760.796.3708.
 
Attendees can stop by anytime between 1 and 3 pm.  In the comfort and safety of their car, adults and children will receive a butterfly with instructions for releasing it in an outdoor space, listen to live music, hear uplifting messages from The Elizabeth Hospice’s grief support team and enjoy sweet treats. 
 
The Elizabeth Hospice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit healthcare leader, has been providing hospice care, palliative care and grief support services to children and adults in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside County since 1978. The organization’s highly trained grief counselors help children and adults understand their feelings and thoughts and guide them through the process of coping with the death of a loved one. Grief support services are available to everyone in the community, including those who do not have a patient affiliation with The Elizabeth Hospice. No one is ever turned away.
