     The annual Hong Kong Flower Show extravaganza at Victoria Park will close at 9pm tomorrow (March 24). Members of the public are urged to grasp the final chance to see tens of thousands of blooming flowers in all their splendour.
 
     After the show, flowers that are in good condition and suitable for replanting will be distributed to the public at 10am on March 25 at the park’s South Pavilion Plaza (near the Sugar Street entrance). It is estimated that about 3 000 pots will be distributed, subject to conditions of the plants. Each person will be given one pot only on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last. To help protect the environment, members of the public are encouraged to bring their own bags.
 
     During the flower show period, various recreational fringe activities have been held at the showground. One of the activities, the Jockey Club Student Drawing Competition, held its prize presentation ceremony today (March 23). Winning entries are now on display at the showground.
 
     The competition was conducted in five categories and the champions are as follows:

Senior Section in Primary School:
Wong Yui-ching from The Salvation Army Ann Wyllie Memorial School
Junior Section in Secondary School:

Lam Shuk-mei from Tang Shiu Kin Victoria Government Secondary School
Tertiary Institution Section:
Fan Yan-yuet from The Education University of Hong Kong
 
     Meanwhile, the flower show is hosting an online voting campaign called “My Most Favourite Garden Plot”. Voters can choose their favourite from the garden plots of the 18 districts at the flower show, with the chance of winning free air tickets.
 
     The flower show is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is supporting the flower show for the 12th consecutive year and has been its major sponsor since 2014. The Club’s support for the Hong Kong Flower Show, like all its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate employment, tax and charity support for the community.
 
     This year’s flower show is one of the events under Art March of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau. The show is running until March 24 from 9am to 9pm daily.      The winners of the plant exhibit competition, one of the major activities of the Hong Kong Flower Show, were announced today (March 16). At the prize presentation ceremony, winners of the best exhibits in the Open Competition Section and the Jockey Club School Section were each presented with a Hong Kong Flower Show Award.
 
     Mr Luo Shih-hsien won the Open Competition Section with a pot of exquisite orchids, while students from Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Li Ka Shing College won the School Section with three pots of outstanding succulent plants.
 
     The winner of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Western Style Garden Plot Competition was Wan Chai District, while Kwai Tsing District won the LCSD Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition.
 
     The flower show is being held at Victoria Park until March 24 from 9am to 9pm daily, featuring “Floral Joy Around Town” as the main theme and angelonia as the theme flower.
 
     Some 420 000 flowers including about 40 000 angelonias are on display. More than 220 organisations have participated in the event. A diverse range of educational and recreational fringe activities are also offered for visitors of all ages.
 
     To support environmental protection, visitors are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and green shopping bags. The showground also has QR codes for downloading the location map and information on the theme flower and landscape displays.

Canada – Supporting flower growers to strengthen market access and spur future growth

Canada’s flower growers have built a strong reputation of providing the North American market with a wide variety of high quality greenhouse flowers and potted plants. Today, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced an investment of close to $535,000 to support Flowers Canada Growers Inc. (FCG) in their efforts to further improve and strengthen Canada’s floriculture industry.

Canada’s flower growers have built a strong reputation of providing the North American market with a wide variety of high quality greenhouse flowers and potted plants. Today, the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced an investment of close to $535,000 to support Flowers Canada Growers Inc. (FCG) in their efforts to further improve and strengthen Canada’s floriculture industry.

This funding is part of an investment for two projects to support efforts underway by Flowers Canada Growers Inc. to capture new opportunities for market growth. With an investment of nearly $460,000 through the AgriMarketing Program, FCG is supporting marketing activities to promote the benefits of Canada’s floriculture products, which will help increase sales throughout Canada and the United States. FCG will also work with farmers and floriculture businesses to provide trade-related information and support, training and certification to enhance industry knowledge and maintain access to international markets.

An additional $75,000 in funding through the AgriRisk Initiatives will enable FCG to conduct a feasibility study to help determine long-term solutions that address insurance challenges in the floriculture greenhouse sector.

Federal investments will help the sector develop market opportunities, address industry challenges and contribute to a stronger Canadian agricultural sector. These investments also demonstrate the Government of Canada’s continued commitment to supporting Canada’s horticulture industry to enhance its competitiveness and vibrancy.
