Brussels ETO brings Hong Kong’s cinematic memories back to life at Spain Moving Images Festival (with images)

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (Brussels ETO) signs up with hands with the Film Development Fund and the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) to support the screening of Hong Kong movies at the ninth Spain Moving Images Festival (SMIFest), which is presently occurring in Madrid, Spain, from September 3 to October 18 (Madrid time).

SMIFest includes an unique program on Hong Kong’s “Neon Years”showcasing 10 traditional Hong Kong movies from 1980 to 1999. The chosen movies are “A Better Tomorrow” “Boat People” “City on Fire” “Comrades: Almost a Love Story” “Fallen Angels” “Made in Hong Kong” “My Heart is That Eternal Rose” “The Killer” “Throw Down” and “Twin Dragons”

The Brussels ETO hosted a networking reception on October 7 (Madrid time), which united members of the worldwide movie and cultural neighborhoods. Speaking at the reception, Assistant Representative of the Brussels ETO Mr Paul Leung applauded the impressive accomplishments of Hong Kong movie theater in the 1980s and 1990s, in addition to its enduring tradition and impact on the international movie landscape.

Mr Leung likewise highlighted the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s constant efforts to promote the movie market and the brand-new efforts to support its advancement simply revealed in the 2026 Policy Address by the Chief Executive, such as the “Film + Tourism” promo.
