Odisha migrant worker dies after falling from train in Tamil Nadu

A migrant worker from Ganjam district died tragically after allegedly falling from a moving train while travelling to Chennai in search of employment on Saturday. The incident has left his family and villagers in shock, as the deceased was reportedly the sole earning member of his household.

The deceased has been identified as Tuna Behera, a resident of Bhishmagiri village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district. According to reports, Tuna had left his native village along with some of his friends to travel to Chennai, where they were planning to work as migrant labourers.

The journey, however, ended in tragedy after Tuna reportedly fell from the moving train near Patambakkam, close to Cuddalore Port Junction in Tamil Nadu. He suffered severe injuries in the fall and died at the spot.

Following the incident, Railway Police reached the location and recovered Tuna’s body. The body was subsequently sent to a nearby government medical facility for post-mortem examination. Further details about the circumstances leading to the fall are awaited.

Grief Strike Family

The news of Tuna’s death has plunged his family into deep grief. His widowed mother is reportedly struggling to come to terms with the loss of her only son, who was the family’s primary source of income.

Villagers said Tuna’s family is financially vulnerable and has limited means to bear the expenses involved in bringing his mortal remains back to Bhishmagiri.

They have urged the Odisha government and concerned authorities to make immediate arrangements to transport Tuna’s body to his native village. The villagers have also sought financial assistance for the bereaved family, stressing the need to support Tuna’s mother at this difficult time.
