Song Joong-ki will star in a new romantic comedy called Love Cloud, reportedly scheduled to air in the first half of 2027.

Tailored to the Hallyu star’s signature charm, the upcoming series locks in a weekend broadcast slot on KBS2, cementing a historic network homecoming for Song Joong-ki a decade after his legendary run on the channel in Descendants of the Sun (2016), which became one of the biggest global hits in the K-drama universe.

Love Cloud, directed by Song Min-yeop, is a love story set in the beautiful, breezy landscapes of Jeju Island, South Korea. It’s a healing romantic comedy following two aviation professionals whose lives went their separate ways, only to cross paths again years later under different circumstances.

The story captures love as volatile as Jeju’s moody weather, where a bright, sunny sky can suddenly give way to an emotional storm. Song Joong-ki’s character, Kang Woo-joo, is an ex-flight instructor who has transitioned into an air traffic controller who steers aircrafts safely home. But his daily routine is upended when pilot Ahn Ha-nee, played by Park Ji-hyun, reappears in his life.

Love Cloud adds to Song’s protracted filmography. He took the spotlight in the early years of his career with his performance in the period piece Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010) and followed it up with the romance melodrama The Innocent Man (2012). But it was his role as Captain Yoo Si-jin in the superhit Descendants of the Sun that made him an overnight sensation, not only cementing him as a household name but also turning him into the quintessential romantic hero across Asia.

Always seeking to branch out of his comfort zone, the actor spent the following years expanding his range with different titles. He delivered a cold, calculated charisma in the dark crime thriller Vincenzo (2021) and pulled off a perfect revenge in the fantasy drama Reborn Rich (2022), both of which became widely successful in Korea and beyond, with the latter becoming one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean cable television history thus far.

Song Joong-ki has also given stellar portrayals in award-winning movies, including A Werewolf Boy (2012), The Battleship Island (2017), and Space Sweepers (2021). His most recent work was in the coming-of-age romance drama My Youth, where he played a writer and a florist reunited with his first love, portrayed by Chun Woo-Hee.

Exploring a similar second-chance romance concept, the upcoming show Love Cloud highlights the actor’s natural talent for romantic comedies. And while his gritty roles and intense blockbusters have proven his versatility, Song Joong-ki is unarguably most loved for the effortless wit, boyish charm, and deep sincerity he brings to a love story.
